DayZ Standalone, Freelook, Third Person
djzombie replied to DontTrustPubs's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I don't understand why people want to limit gameplay. I <3 third person view, but I don't go around saying we should make the game third person only, even though I rarely use first person view unless I'm using a scope or iron sights. I like looking at my character. I like the extra awareness third person view offers. I'm fine with there being a server controlled option for 1st person only. I'm fine with OPTIONS. I'll just never play on those servers, like the MAJORITY of dayz players playing now. But to limit the game inherently for everyone is silly, especially when you're talking about removing a feature that the majority of the people playing want in the game. If that wasn't the case then 1st person only servers wouldn't be the ghost town that they are. -
so.. there was this one time that i landed my helicopter with the skids parallel to the incline of a hill.... i landed... seemed to be sitting still while the engine was on... shut the engine down and as it powered down i started sliding like i was on a sled in the winter time towards the tree line. so im like aw shiz and try to turn the engine back on and take off before my heli smashes into the treeline... very fiery explosion. lesson learned though... i always park the chopper with skids perpendicular to the incline now, and they rarely if ever move on their own. it would be nice to be able to cut down trees, but i think trying to do it with a hatchet is more than slightly ridiculous. should need at least full size axe, and it should take a good long while to get through a tree with an axe. 10-15 minutes of chopping i'd say, maybe 5 if we're talking about balancing fun and realism. chainsaws on the other hand, should be able to slice through them like butter in 30 seconds to a minute at the expense of making a funkton of noise and giving away your position

dean said the new client-server architecture and zombie spawning being controlled by the server means they can do things like roaming herds and stuff like that. Pretty sure its already planned.

still, no one can run with a full pack of gear consistently for days at a time without getting winded even at the "jogging" speed that doesn't use stamina. Swimming speed(just like being able to run for incredible distances and never getting tired) is one of those compromises that needs to be made for fun. I'd rather not take an hour to swim across a pond. If they don't change swimming speed then they at least need to modify running so that you get tired and slow down even jogging.

Was wondering about the severe lack of police stations and gun shops in the game. Both locations would be the best spots to find weapons and ammo. Has it been said that they will be in the standalone?

Standalone - Gun Stores / Police Stations

banks would be cool for the vault, master locksmith requirement to open it and set a combo. it would just be a nice place to setup a safe place, kinda like a prison too. -

Food matters! [Food durability, nutrition value, and other effects]

im all for making the systems as true to life as possible - that was just a rough layout i drew of some possible bonuses that wouldn't affect anyone elses gameplay. -

i actually just posted this is another thread about deer, but i think its super appropriate here: it would be kinda cool would be if different animals yielded different meat, and there was a whole cooking system where different meats / meals give you different bonuses, nothing huge, just some ideas: 1.) small amount of blood regenerated for the next 30 mins / hour. 2.) decrease dehydration rate for the next 30 mins / hour. 3.) decrease hunger rate for the next 30 mins / hour. 4.) immune system boost - immune to sickness for the next 30 mins / hour. 5.) increase bone strength - less likely to suffer a broken limb for the next 30 mins / hour. all of these things meals could reasonably provide you(ie theres no "magic", for instance soups and stews could provide the hydration buff, big steaks could provide either the regen or the hunger rate, citrus fruits could provide the immune system boost, and any calcium based would provide bone strength(though i'd be surprised to find much dairy after the apocolypse) and don't seem too overpowered. so you could make how the meat was prepared just as important as what the meat is by mixing and matching those bonuses positively and negatively based on how it was prepared. which would also give way to having different tools to cook with as well. that would be another huge thing to add to the game, being able to capture, breed, and use livestock like cows/goats for dairy.) being able to pick fruit from trees would be amazing. agriculture in general would be amazing if you could plant and harvest food. the thing is in an apocolypse of any kind there is a finite amount of supplies, whether its food or fuel, anything consumable will eventually be gone as if its an unrenewable resource. so i think that server just respawning stuff over and over and over and over as people come and take it works mechanically, i dont think anyone could realistically survive during an apocolypse without some type of self sufficient way of food production(ie agriculture) the forest animals will be more hunted than they've ever been in that scenario as well so unless you can breed them you can't guarentee any kind of lasting supply there either. -
it actually wouldn't take much, just increase their detection radius. animals detection should definitely be a much larger radius than zombies. the other thing that would be kinda cool would be if different animals yielded different meat, and there was a whole cooking system where different meats / meals give you different bonuses, nothing huge, just some ideas: 1.) small amount of blood regenerated for the next 30 mins / hour. 2.) decrease dehydration rate for the next 30 mins / hour. 3.) decrease hunger rate for the next 30 mins / hour. 4.) immune system boost - immune to sickness for the next 30 mins / hour. 5.) increase bone strength - less likely to suffer a broken limb for the next 30 mins / hour. all of these things meals could reasonably provide you(ie theres no "magic", for instance soups and stews could provide the hydration buff, big steaks could provide either the regen or the hunger rate, citrus fruits could provide the immune system boost, and any calcium based would provide bone strength(though i'd be surprised to find much dairy after the apocolypse) and don't seem too overpowered. so you could make how the meat was prepared just as important as what the meat is by mixing and matching those bonuses positively and negatively based on how it was prepared. which would also give way to having different tools to cook with as well. that would be another huge thing to add to the game, being able to capture, breed, and use livestock like cows/goats for dairy.) being able to pick fruit from trees would be amazing. agriculture in general would be amazing if you could plant and harvest food. the thing is in an apocolypse of any kind there is a finite amount of supplies, whether its food or fuel, anything consumable will eventually be gone as if its an unrenewable resource. so i think that server just respawning stuff over and over and over and over as people come and take it works mechanically, i dont think anyone could realistically survive during an apocolypse without some type of self sufficient way of food production(ie agriculture). sadly the supermarket doesn't restock itself daily in a zombie apocolypse the forest animals will be more hunted than they've ever been in that scenario as well so unless you can breed them you can't guarentee any kind of lasting supply there either.

pretty sure dean already said gas would be limited and the gas in gas tanks would be a finite supply.

bump cause this idea is awesome.

i posted this in an ideas thread for stand alone but things move fast here so the thread quickly dropped off the front page, figured the idea would get some more attention if it was its own thread. what i really want to see is some way to be able to take prisoners, like ways to restrain people. im thinking like handcuffs, headbags(so people can't see where you're taking them), zipties, maybe even just rope(for a lesser quality, easier to break out of binding), or duct tape, i want ways to effectively take prisoners, i also want to give prisoners ways to effectively break out of those bindings if their captors aren't too bright. for instance, a pocket knife could cut duct tape, rope, and zip ties, if they forget to take it from you, handcuffs should require either lockpicks or a key. shoot someone, so they're helpless on the ground, bind them, bandage them, pick them bring them to a vehicle, fix em up and torture them for info, put the restrained dude in a chair and knee cap him, let him almost bleed out and just before hes ready to die you bandage him up lol. then tell him you just ran out of bandages haha, and you dont think hes going to make it through the next round of kneecapping. on the other side of that how awesome would it be to get captured, have your captors not check your pack, get you in their vehicle, take you back to base and then when they stop the car you just get out and start murdering people restraint free. using these restraints you could even use prisoners forcibly as mules for extra storage on the way back to base, well until their time comes of course.

Standalone Weather; more predictable/effective on player's condition
djzombie replied to TIC's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
yeah there should be another meter for sleep... it should be like being awake for two or 3 days straight(depending on how long yyou've been able to force your character to be able to stay awake previously(sort of building a tolerance to the lack of rem sleep) but eventually you always crash unconscious if you dont sleep. a sleeping bag would be another item we could add to the top or bottom of the packs once found, or on the back of a motorcyle/quad/trunk of a vehicle to move around with less weight. -
i loled too hard and woke the missus cause i read that while that video above was playing, damn near fell out of my chair

personally i'd like to be able to land a chopper on the roof of an otherwise unreachable building top, and then be able to rappel down the side of the building, and then use that line to get back up later as well, unless someone else came along, saw my line, climbed it and took my heli. would also be a good tactic to rescue people, drop a line so they can climb up on a side of the building that covered from the attackers

Standalone Weather; more predictable/effective on player's condition
djzombie replied to TIC's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
would be nice if we could use tents as a way to get out of the elements in rough weather instead of just storage. your vulnerability to getting sick because of the weather should be based on how well your gear protects you from those elements. ie, if you're wearing a tshirt and shorts and its raining or snowing you're more susceptible to sickness. in some weather staying near a fire or inside a tent might be the only way to survive the night, as in snowy climates temperatures can reach below 130. without some seriously insulated gear you're going to be screwed in the elements. speaking of snow, i really hope we get a map with snow, as its the easiest weather to track something in... realistic footprints in the snow for humans and animals would make hunting extremely satisfying. i also wouldn't mind my visibility being cut down if it was for a good reason, like extreme rain or snow, but just having fog to have fog to decrease the view distance imo is pretty crappy. i know its to reduce people sniping from long distances but add real wind ballistics to the standalone and then it will be a challenge, and those people that have the hardware can take advantage of something that would take incredible skill to do consistently. -
you said brokeback mountain? thats all i could come up with?

there is a pretty detailed thread already, on the first page here. check it out http://dayzmod.com/f...nersrestraints/

do you mean an obscene number of penis drawings? if so, add a hidden modifier to player made drawings that identifies them on the server logs, with their ip name, location of the drawing, so you can look it up if there are complaints, and then with that info you can take appropriate action. or you can say screw it, this is sparta, put on your sunglasses and *deal with it* like any reasonable admin. its just skin clarice.

Good idea, would be cool if we could find/build a reloading bench, maybe have it be gunsmith specialization or something. I think the only difference between sd rounds and regular rounds is the amount of gunpowder in the round, sd rounds have less to avoid damage to the silencer, thus a reduced range. So with a reloading bench and tools it would be easy to turn regular rounds into sd rounds. Would also be cool if we pick up empty shell casings, maybe in bunches of 5 or 10(or the entire pile) to avoid tedium, then be able to take scrap metal, melt it down using a forge you can build out of basic materials(bricks, scrap metal, concrete), place into molds(maybe full metal jacket(armor penetration) and hollow points(extreme damage to soft targets) for advanced gunsmiths) for bullets, then combine the empty shell cases, the proper amount of gunpowder(for regular high range round, or sd low range round), and the newly molded bullet to reload your own custom ammo. That would really be the exact place you would go to find all this equipment, would be awesome if you could strip the machinery that is there for working parts and then reassemble back at camp when you had everything you needed.

That would be cool if you could find spraypaint and be able to use that to draw anything on walls. more than likely the first spray paint you find will be on a corpse next to a half done painting splattered with the artists blood. also, this idea would require so incredibly little to add. 1.) when you're near a fireplace, if you have wood and matches, add the option on the scroll menu to build fire 2.) put a regular ass camping fire inside the woodstove or fireplace 3.) add a smoke grenade to the top of the chimney when the fire is lit 4.) bask in the glory of how the arma engine handles light radius 5.) get sniped.
