I'm kind of feeling like the low level military weapons are completely obsolete at this point. I just pick up a Winnie or Enfield and hang on to that until I can find something like an M14, which doesn't take too long. AK-74s and M4s aren't even really worth picking up...
-
Back in my day we had to install DayZ manually.

The vast majority would consider <30 FPS to be unplayable so I think recommending that someone buy ArmA II when they won't be able to run it at what most people would consider to be a playable standard would be irresponsible.
-
If the server is running a different version of the mod then you will be unable to join. Make sure you're running the latest ArmA II beta version (they're backwards compatible, so it's best to just use the latest) and the same DayZ mod version as the server that you're trying to connect to. 1.8 is the latest (and IMO best) version, so I would recommend going with that.

Tents are royally screwed in 1.8, it will be fixed in 1.8.1. I'm just using a ural at the minute... There is a fix, if you give me a minute I'll look it out and you can forward it to your server owner. :) Tent fix... http://awkack.org/index.php?topic=3179.msg15493#new

I have to agree with the OP a little, I'm hoping the military loot drops will be toned down a little in future patches. Maybe even in the 1.8.1 hotfix, if we're lucky. M14s are one of the most common mili weapons at this point... I currently have 6 or 7 loaded in a ural with about 35 DMR mags from M14s that we found but just weren't worth picking up because we have so many, and me and my friend are carrying an M14 each as is pretty much everyone that we meet in-game. They're really powerful weapons and IMO should be pretty damn hard to find.

I provided a direct link to the Commander download to save him downloading whatever third-party rubbish they're trying to get people to download these days, lol.

Yeah, that's true. I play on 2 servers. One is an 'enhanced vanilla' server, it has more or less stock settings with sidechat enabled; and the other is a 'hardcore' server, it has pretty much everything (third-person, waypoints etc.) disabled and of course the side channel and death messages are disabled there. You can definitely feel the difference between the two. With side enabled you'll constantly see stuff like 'Who's shooting in Stary?' that lets you know that there are at least two players in Stary. There's a lot more paranoia without side chat. That's another thing that I'm definitely looking forward to in the standalone...

No problem. :)

Yes, this problem is affecting everyone and will be fixed in 1.8.1. Until then the fix can be found here... http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/148119-dayz-18-dev-bug-list/?p=1471871

I definitely think anyone who played a few hundred hours in the mod will have a massive advantage over those who did not to begin with. Obviously things like map knowledge and overall game sense take time to develop, there will be new things for everyone to learn but the basic principles will be the same. I'm not sure how people who are new to DayZ will see people who spent a decent amount of time in the mod. I guess the same as people who are new now see people who have been playing since the early days, I guess. :)

Nothing like a picnic on the hill... :)

Install and run both ArmA II and ArmA II: Operation Arrowhead up to the main menu once each. Install DayZ Commander... http://dayzcommander.blob.core.windows.net/releases/Dotjosh.DayZCommander.Installer.msi ...And use it to install the latest ArmA II beta patch (currently 103718) and DayZ mod version (currently 1.8). Then use DayZ Commander's server browser to find a server that you want to play in and simply double-click it. Hope this helps. :)

I voted for no, although I'm not 100% dead set against it being a server side option. But why? It would make more sense for that to be part of the 'study body' function than for it to pop up on every player in the server's screen. :S

Lies! I'm staying perfectly cool at 4.4Ghz on an Ivy Bridge with a Hyper 212 EVO and no extra fans in addition to the stock ones in my case. It's a great little cooler IMO. Will run DayZ mod okay on medium settings. I'd look at adding another 4Gb RAM later if you plan on playing the standalone and are running a 64bit OS though. You'd be running low/very low settings due to the low spec graphics card in this system.

I think unarmed melee will be added in the standalone, it's too fiddly for the mod though as there are no knock back animations for the zeds. I'd like to see a 'shove' or something. Trying to fist fight them when they're infected and full of rage would be silly, but trying to defend yourself instead of just taking a beating and running away makes perfect sense.
-
It's not actually been confirmed, but it makes a lot more sense; to me at least.

I Am Legend was the inspiration for Night of the Living Dead, which spawned the zombie genre. Maybe if you knew what you were talking about instead of spouting rubbish you could follow your own advice instead of being so defensive and downright rude... I wouldn't want to have to hand out a temp ban so early in your forums career... 2) Flaming: Any material which constitutes defamation, harassment, or abuse is strictly prohibited. I think it's Day Zero. As in... Chernarus Kamenka Day 0 They aren't dead. It's been confirmed by Rocket at least 10 times and he's had his brother, a virologist, write a paper on the theoretical virus that the inhabitants of Charnarus are infected with; which I think you'll be able to find bits and pieces of throughout the standalone as a kind of backstory to uncover. Play Left 4 Dead or watch 28 Days Later, 28 Weeks Later, I Am Legend and/or other infection movies for reference. Infected tend to be fast and not the slow 'Romero' zombies.

Seriously, they should've opened up a kickstarter.

When development started on the standalone started they were planning on just beefing up the mod a little bit and releasing it as a standalone game that didn't require ArmA II, so it was only going to take a few months to complete. A short time into development they essentially scrapped everything and decided to rebuild the game from the ground up, had this always been the plan I'm not sure that they would have announced the standalone as early as they did. Although people would have probably guessed that something was up due to the community devs taking over development on the mod. Also, as Viktor says - when you start taking people's money it changes everything. The impatient kids turn into paying customers that you're obligated to deliver to. Personally, I think they made the right decision to rely only on BiS and I trust the dev team to deliver us as awesome game that's well worth the wait. :) -
Yeah, his brother's a virologist. He's had him write a paper on the DayZ virus and I think it will be researchable in-game in the standalone. I imagine it would have to be an airborne virus similar to that of I Am Legend, but we'll see... :)
-
I don't think it's specifically the SVD error that's giving you problems, it's more than likely something else. Have you tried deleting your @DayZ folder and reinstalling the mod?
-
The easiest way is to use DayZ Commander IMO. Install and run both ArmA II and ArmA II: Operation Arrowhead right up to the main menu once each. Run DayZ Commander and navigate to the install/upate tab. Install both the latest ArmA II beta patch (currently 103718) and DayZ mod version (currently 1.8). Open up the settings tab and check both Steam options. Use the DayZ Commander server browser to find a server that you want to play in and simply double click it. Enjoy!

I really hate this zombe chain knock out and they do so much damage
Mos1ey replied to TheWizard14's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Good to see the zombies are doing their job then. :) Deeep burnnn! -
My only complaint with zombies in 1.8 is that I sometimes take damage after killing them. Other than that they're as close to perfect as we'll see in an ArmA II mod IMO.
