  1. It isn't about whether there's 'work' (and I'm not sure that I consider holding W for 20 minutes to be work) involved, it's about the fact that looting your body defies perma-death; which is supposed to be one of the key features of DayZ.
  2. The standalone isn't about delivering a clone of the mod, it's about unleashing DayZ's full potential and realising Rocket's vision of a survival simulator, not a 225km2 deathmatch arena with (or maybe without at first) zombies.
  3. In a real life survival situation you probably would salvage items from fallen friends. I don't really have a problem with that, they more than likely wouldn't be able to pick up everything you had anyway. For me not being able to loot your own body would more or less fix the issue completely. :)
  4. They should just make it impossible to loot your own body. Completely defeats the point of perma-death, you might as well just restart with all your gear...

    La5A2 holo VS m14 aim

+1 The M14 is awesome and the fact that it shares ammo with the DMR just seals the deal for me.

Can I Run DayZ Mod? (POST HERE)

The desktop machine will just about run it, but could do with a new graphics card. The laptop will really struggle because of the CPU.

The only things that I could see these being used for would be racist/homophobic slurs and ASCII penises.
  9. I've found 15 in one hospital in 1.8, lol. You shouldn't have too many problems finding them unless you're unlucky and get there after a group has cleared it out.
  10. Zombies present an obstacle that you have to overcome in order to get the supplies that you need to survive. Once they're working properly i.e. running indoors and using better pathfinding I think they'll present a threat to all of us again. If you remove that obstacle then you're left with two things to do - 1) run around collecting food and water as without zombies these are the only items that would be needed to survive or 2) deathmatch. How can you possibly claim that you don't like deathmatching when you said in your last post that... 'In my opinion dayz would work perfectly, maybe even better, without the zombies.'? If you have a valid insight as to other activities that players could partake in in the abscence of zombies or you actually have any evidence to back up some of your zany theories e.g. 'It could even encourage team play, who knows?' then go for it. Otherwise I'm done, you're not getting a rise out of me, lol.
  11. For future reference If you climb up the ladder and prone out on the roof for a while the zeds will lose interest and you can leave in peace, lol. Also, I'm pretty sure they already have an investigating mode (added in 1.7.7, I think?). This is why when you're looting a supermarket or somewhere similar zeds will keep walking in.
  12. Hardly. Game development tends to follow the dev build > alpha > beta > release pattern. Generally what would be considered the main game mechanic is in place by alpha... That remains true. 1. At this point I don't think it matters if people would enjoy the game without zombies. That 2. I don't think 'it's already going to be instable so it doesn't matter' is a very strong argument... 3. It will be made very clear that the game is in an alpha state. If you remember the WarZ release fiasco you will understand why this is very important. I'm not sure if you played back iin the very early days but before everyone learned the nuances of the mod it was actually pretty difficult to survive. I think it would result in an absolute deathmatch because there would literally be nothing else to do. But there we go... The reason that you're trying so desperately to prove this bizarre point is that you would actually prefer DeathmatchZ for some strange reason.
  13. How can I not know something that people have told me personally?.. A lot of people have told me that they only KoS out of fear of the other player killing them if they do not, therefore I know. ...And if I can't know that then how can you possible know that people will get bored and resort to KoS? I'm going to have to agree with Rista and say that it just seems like you're clutching at straws in an attempt to defend the KoS play style here. The item damage system is unfinished and still needs a lot of tweaking. Plus we all signed NDAs and can't reveal anything that hasn't been said by the devs already, sorry!
  14. I'm not being aggressive at all, meerely making an observation that after seeing you around the forums for a while now appears to be wholely accurate. In the case of DayZ, where a large part of the community plan on buying the game in its alpha state, it's fairly obvious that launching without zombies would get the game off to a bad start by leaving players with nothing to do other than deathmatch, which is something that the devs are clearly working on ways to reduce. The DayZ alpha is more of a feature incomplete build than a genuine test. We've all been playing the mod for 18 months, IMO we've learned about as much about player mentality and how the different features affect this as there is to know.
  15. Actually, no. As a moderator I'm still perfectly entitled to an opinion and am not expected to remain neutral. I do not show bias in how I moderate content on the forums and I set a decent example by staying well within the forum's rules. Beyond that how I use the forums is my own choice. I'm not trying to 'condemn' you, purely illustrate that the opinion of the masses is not always 'best'.
  16. dgeesio, you're missing the point completely... The majority of players don't just kill people for the sake of killing people and I don't think anyone would miss that part of the playerbase if we did lose them.
  17. The majority buy Coldplay records and voted for Hitler, that doesn't mean it's the best course of action. I think a lot of people are going to very disappointed when they buy a survival sim thinking that it's going to be Battlefield with zombies, and they'll only have your favourite servers running bastardised versions of the mod to blame...
  18. Do you get a kick out of disagreeing with people regardless of what they're saying or something? I swear, it doesn't matter how ridiculous what you're saying is, you will argue your point to the bitter end... No, an alpha is not for testing how a game will play it without integral features in place. I don't think you know very much about game development...
  19. The busiest servers are the most far removed from what the mod is actually supposed to be, that doesn't mean that the standalone should be tailored towards those players and it's actually been made pretty clear by Rocket that it won't be... You've actually overshot missing the point and landed in making no sense whatsoever here. Please do explain to me why I couldn't 'know'? The standalone will have a lot more content than the mod, and even more added as time goes on. I find it hard to believe that people will become bored as they did with the mod that was originally intended as a tech demo and hasn't had much content added 1 year down the line.
  20. I'm not sure if English is your first language, so I won't be too critical but, 'and a whole lot more' does not in any way imply the rest of the community. Drop it. The difference remains that dgeesio was trying to speak for the entire community ('first thoughts of anyone in game is...'), whereas I was only voicing the opinion of a large part of the large part of the community that I've spoken to.
  21. 'A lot of people...' Quite clearly not trying to speak for the community as a whole... And I do know that based on conversations with people that I've played with, met in-game or spoken to outside of DayZ.
  22. Not sure if question or toungue twister. No one is trying to stop KoS, meerely make it a less viable playstyle as DayZ was never supposed to be a deathmatch. I'm not sure why you seem to think that you can speak for the community as a whole but okay... A lot of people don't kill on sight and a whole lot more wouldn't kill on sight if there wasn't such a high chance of other players killing them on sight.
  23. I don't believe so. I think they're planning on providing unlimited keys from the get-go now.
