You can change your Steam name every 5 minutes, I think you would find it much more difficult to change your face. I don't really see how the two are related. You'd be better off using voice to recognise someone.

This would do nothing to prevent server hopping as you could easily hop around server until your heart is content and then reconnect to your 'home' server. -

As above - your OS will not be the problem, your specs will. -
The issues in PlanetSide 2 was that in big battles you were constantly recieving updates from all the other players (every time someone entered or exited a vehicle for example), it had nothing to do with rendering. DayZ will be optimised further down the line. Doing it in alpha is a bad idea because it will just cause problems and have to be redone later on anyway.

I just have the stuttering that everyone has had since the patch that wiped the database. More than happy with my performance aside from that. :) -

I'm not sure... A lot of people claim to have regenerated back up to full health, but I sat in a bush for 90 minutes (making sure my hunger and thirst were always taken care of) and haven't noticed any increase in colour brightness.

I'm pretty sure this is an intended feature and personally I love it. -
I realised I was still opted in to the unstable/'beta' builds from closed testing therefore already updated to the wipe patch, but the only servers running it had very few players. So I opted out of unstable builds and reverted to the previous version, started playing then the server went down for the update and I had to update again. Then when I logged back in I hadn't lost my char. That must have had something to do with it I guess. I'm happy though, I must have one of the oldest chars in DayZ right now. ;3 Well feel free to go somewhere else, there's a tonne of new stuff to explore!

Indeed. Just because something has not yet been fixed does not mean that the devs are not aware of the issue and working on fixing it. AFAIK it's a server issue. Me too. I even survived the patch that reset the database somehow. No idea how that happened...

If you're reinstalling then go all out. Delete the DayZ folder in My Documents and the one in AppData too so that everything's 100% freshly installed. Good luck! -

Can you provide a rough idea of your specs? It would be irresponsible to give advice that could lead to you spending money and then not being happy with your performance without knowing.

Oops, the .vars file does appear to be some kind of character data... Although I'm not sure what exactly... The file simply called whatever your name is is purely a settings file though. I'd try deleting that and letting the game create a new one. I believe there is an enable/disable button under 'devices' in the controls menu. -

Indeed, and that's what I'm hoping to get out of the late game later in development. Right now I'm finding that I have a 75% chance of survival in the first hour, then like I said before it's a piece of cake from there. I can't imagine how new players that didn't play the mod are finding their first hour... -

I see you conveniently left out the maintenance? xD Well it was removed from the mod way back... And IMO it changed DayZ for the better. You can fit an ACOG sight to the M4 which gives a decent amount of zoom. To a much lesser extent. None of the rifles that will be featured in the game are as heavy or require the same amount of maintenance as a .50cal.

You can fit a scope on the Mosin.

Because it's an anti-material rifle that weighs 15kg, fires explosive ammunition and requires heavy maintenance. It has no place in a gritty survival sim.

My bad. The other two aren't config files, they're DAYZPROFILE files. -
Any of the pre-release devblogs. Rocket has said countless times that he wants to focus on civilian and low grade military weaponry as .50cal rifles, TWS, etc. do not fit the setting.
