TIL that DayZ runs much smoother on Windows 10.
Mos1ey replied to Grimey Rick's topic in General Discussion
I received the upgrade offer ages ago on my desktop, but not my laptop. Is there any way that a machine can be ineligable even though it's running W7? Desktop is W7 Professional SP1 and my laptop is W7 Home Premium SP1 (if that makes any difference at all...). -
Bohemia games generally don't get ported to Mac OSX so I wouldn't get your hopes up. That being said they don't usually get ported to console either so I guess you never know. In the mean time - it is possible to play DayZ on a Mac machine via Boot Camp or similar.

Bohemia Interactive Humble Bundle (DayZ Mod for less than $5)
Mos1ey replied to MadWookie's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I bought the bundle for Take on Helicopters. I've wanted that game for so long but could never justify spending the money. -
I'd put an SSD in there, install your OS and DayZ on it, then get some aftermarket cooling and overclock your CPU. Aside from that your system is fine and further upgrades won't be worth the money that you'd pay for them. Once we get towards the end of the development cycle and the game is better optimised you should notice a considerable improvement, but right now the game favours Intel CPUs with strong single-core performance heavily.

Unfortunately that is the only way. I used to use an unsigned mouse acceleration driver and I had to switch back to my standard mouse driver and reboot out of test mode every time that I wanted to play Arma or DayZ. It's a pain but it won't be changing any time soon, as far as I'm aware. Sorry!
-
No, that won't run DayZ very well and you definitely wouldn't be on high graphics settings. "Gaming laptops" are a terrible idea. You could however build a desktop that will run DayZ well for the same amount of money.
-
Just to confirm - you need Arma 2 and Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead to play DayZ mod. You also need to load each game up to the main menu once before installing DayZ mod.
-
No, it was in open alpha for a few months. It was in alpha (just not open to the public) for much longer. They also didn't have to overcome a lot of the hurdles that have extended the development time for DayZ, such as deciding to make major changes to the engine a year into development.
-
In that case I misunderstood your post. Yes, messing with the engine will more than likely cause a tonne of problems while it's going on. It's for the greater good and will result in a better final product though. I'd recommend sticking to stable if you want the most playable experience. You're comparing mods for a finished game to an early build of an unfinished game. If you think back to Arma 3's alpha, the multiplayer had severe performance issues. ARK is not in a better technical state. It runs just as badly as (if not worse than...) DayZ, as you would expect from an early access title.
-
Strangely enough, yes. When you add a new feature it's fairly common that it either 1) won't work properly or 2) will break something else. Obviously when a game is available to the public during development, as is the case with DayZ, you need to keep it somewhat playable, but for the most part fixing every little thing as you go slows development down massively.

RV engine can't support those physics.

The problem with allowing players to use the debug zone is that all the vehicles disappear very quickly and never see the light of day again.
-
It's so much fun that you want to do it again and again and again and again.

DayZ REALLY needs to add basebuilding or barracading
Mos1ey replied to billyangstadt's topic in General Discussion
There's nothing stopping you from playing the mod. I still play from time to time, and based on the fact that it can be nightmare to get into the server that I play on during peak times I guess a lot of others do to. -
Where did you get your copy of DayZ from?

Game Freezes - Strange Graphical Artifacts
Mos1ey replied to BleedoutBill's topic in Troubleshooting
Ahhh, I've been getting artifacts in DayZ mod again... I thought it was a problem with 1.8.5, but I guess it's actually the latest Nvidia drivers... Thanks for this. -
Europa is also so full that it's hard to get a space a lot of the time.

Locked at Aron's request. If anyone has anything constructive that they would like to add to the topic PM me and I may unlock it.

How to play DayZ when there are no servers within 170 ping?
Mos1ey replied to sorenackerman's topic in New Player Discussion
There's an Indian DayZ group that you could use to communicate with other players in India. They might be able to recommend the best servers to play on. https://www.facebook.com/dayzIndiaOfficial -
How to play DayZ when there are no servers within 170 ping?
Mos1ey replied to sorenackerman's topic in New Player Discussion
Where are you from? I'm in the Middle East and the game is easily playable for me with a >120ms connection to Europe. DayZ is a multiplayer game, there are no plans to incorporate singleplayer functionality at this time. Sorry! -
DAYZ EUROPA - The world's finest vanilla DayZ Mod server
Mos1ey replied to vinyljunkie's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Very interesting. -
You can download them, sure, but are any servers running anything older than 1.8.4?
-
As of right now, personally I think that the mod is a more polished product. The standalone however has much more potential due to the freedom that the developers now have and the inherant limitations of a mod.
-
The current version of the mod is better in pretty much every way. If people say they liked the 2012 version was better it's generally either because they're looking through rose tinted spectacles at the time when everything was new and fresh, or because they liked PVP without any real threat from the environment.
