Take a running vault (V) at the wall and log out as fast as you can. If you're lucky you'll log back in on the other side of the wall. -

They aren't. Confirmed by Rocket. He had his brother (who is a virologist) write up a paper on the virus that they're infected with. Maybe it will find it's way into the game some day...

This isn't what DayZ is supposed to be, nothing like this will ever be implemented in the game IMO. Maybe when mod support is added we'll see something like this, but not from the devs.

Pretty sure your GPS would be useless once there's no one maintaining the satellites, bud.

I agree. This would also counter people selecting the lowest FOV and then using numpad + as a set of binoculars.

Still, I think it's better to just play and learn things like the road signs and basic road/town layouts. When we had the south coast spawn points my favourite route was always Kamenka up through Zel then a quick stop at Green Mountain and then on to Vybor and the NW airfield. You'd be geared up pretty well by the time you got there and it was just a nice easy route that didn't require a map or compass. You can just loosely follow the roads from the nearest treeline between town and you're golden. Over time you'll learn little shortcuts along the way, and a map and compass can make things easier for quickly cutting between towns, but they definitely aren't required. I'd definitely recommend this way of learning for new players, not looking at a loot map and then pointing themselves in the right direction via a compass and just running in a straight line.

You could always learn the map. ;) Also, since the advent of GPS and smart phones it's pretty common for people to not own maps. I know I don't have any in my house... No offence, but good... You aren't supposed to point yourself at the NW airfield from Cherno and start running... That isn't what DayZ is.

The servers were taken down. You'll know it's okay to start playing once thse servers are back up. Then I'd give it a year or so until we're at final release... Rule #1 - don't get attached to your gear. Also, you'll be starting a fresh char on the experimental servers. They're disconnected from the hive. -

Alpha. The new build appears to be "fucked" for lack of a better term. They call them 'experimental' for a reason. xD I would expect that the devs are aware of the issue as everyone is having the same problem, and will be working to get a fix out as soon as physically possible. Revert to the stable build for now and check back here for updates. Yeah, I expect this will be priority #1 right now. Fix coming ASAP. -

You can turn all the loot spots etc. off and then hide the thing on the right-hand side.

http://dayzdb.com/map That one's for DayZ retail. Honestly, I think the game is better without a map from the internet though. It feels 100% bigger when you're worried about getting lost.

Performance has improved very slightly for me. I'm able to play with ambient occlusion with the same performance that I had before, so that's a 10-15 FPS gain for me. No miracles as of yet though. I wouldn't expect any huge FPS gains until at least beta.

Yes, you are a little bit wrong. AI in ArmA is horrible, it's an absolute pain in the arse. What does make ArmA good are things like weapon ballistics and how player skeletons work. Name one other game where your bullets actually spawn in the barrel of your weapon, not just the centre of your screen. There are a lot of reasons why Dean chose ArmA as his base for the mod, he didn't just jump into it blindly.

I'd rather just have the fade out over distance effect of direct comms ramped up, so that you do actually have to talk more loudly if you want someone further away to hear you.

The game would undoubtedly be better if it were not for meta-gaming, but it's more or less impossible to prevent.

In real life you can't see how hungry or thirsty you are as a percentage or other precise statistic. It makes sense to only be given a rough idea IMO.
