Survival will take a much more primary role once things like temperature and sickness are implemented into the game and zombies are functioning somewhere close to correctly. PvP is not by any means intended to be the primary aspect of the game. Also, in a game with perma-death revenge is counterintuitive.
-
The difference is that in allowing players to choose their spawn points the devs are encouraging this behaviour.

[DayZ Sound Replacement Video] Why Have you not hired this guy!?!?!
Mos1ey replied to GriefSlicer (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Yup. I'm pretty sure that he just ripped them from somewhere else. I highly doubt that the guy actually created or recorded the sounds. -
We tried this in the mod. It just encourages revenge kills and looting your own body. Horrible...

Balance is important in competitive FPS games like the old Call of Duties, Counter-Strike or Quake, but the concept doesn't really apply to DayZ. If everything was balanced then there wouldn't be rare items and there would be no incentive to keep looting after you picked up the basics.

This is why we should use ArmA III's Engine.
Mos1ey replied to Lordocalot's topic in General Discussion
I don't think you really understand how game development works. It isn't a case of use this engine, get these graphics. Graphics have very little to do with the engine. Most of it is to do with the map, modelling and texturing... Chernarus is definitely a better candidate for DayZ than Stratis/Altis although unfortunately it is the more dated looking map. Most of the engine related things that make Arma 3 pretty (lighting, clouds, etc.) have already been ported into DayZ. -
You have a much lower screen resolution. He was looking to play in 1600x1200. I can't say for sure without knowing the specs, but as it's an XP era machine with <1Gb RAM I'm going to have to say no, you probably will not run the game at a playable level on that system. To run the game smoothly you should make sure that you're above the minimum requirements, preferably as close to (or above) the recommended specs as possible. Minimum: OS: Windows Vista SP2 or Windows 7 SP1 Processor: Intel Dual-Core 2.4 GHz or AMD Dual-Core Athlon 2.5 GHz Memory: 2 GB RAM Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce 8800GT or AMD Radeon HD 3830 or Intel HD Graphics 4000 with 512 MB VRAMDirectX: Version 9.0c Hard Drive: 10 GB available space Sound Card: DirectX®-compatibleRecommended: OS: Windows 7 SP1 Processor: Intel Core i5-2300 or AMD Phenom II X4 940 or better Memory: 4 GB RAM Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 or AMD Radeon HD 7750 with 1 GB VRAM or better DirectX: Version 9.0c Hard Drive: 14 GB available space Sound Card: DirectX®-compatible

Well "full" would make sense, so you know that you can't connect, but you shouldn't be able to play in empty servers IMO.
-
Really? :S I run more or less the same route (Kamyshovo/Solnichniy > Msta > Staroye > Polana > Gorka > Novy > Stary > Kabanino > Military base > NW airfield) every life and I'd estimate that 95% of the time I will not encounter another player between Msta and Kabanino.

In Elektro? Dire. More than likely borderline unplayable. The rest of the map would be more or less okay, but the cities would not be fun.
-
I rarely see players (once an hour or so absolute max.) playing in a 40/40 server. I think you're spending too much time in Elektro. xD I fully support this idea, but I doubt it will ever happen. In an ideal world I'd have official (BIS owned) servers only and a 'matchmaking' type system where you and whichever friends you wish to play with are dumped into as full a server as possible. No more circumventing the game by playing in empty servers, no more loot farming and no more admin abuse. It's a win, win, win situation.
-
I wasn't calling your idea dumb, I meant it was dumbed down as in simplified too far. IMO it's one of those things that might be helpful right now, but if you took the time to get used to using Z, X and C you would actually be better off in the long run. :)
-
The multi-function key is such a dumbed down way of doing things. It's designed for the limited number of inputs on a console controller. You're much better off just having to press a designated prone key, rather than hold one for a second or so before it registers and then you go prone.

There have definitely been some changes, just nothing massive. They used to just run through everything and anything as if it wasn't there, now at least they do some basic pathfinding around fences and other objects. AI in the RV engine is incredibly tricky. Zombies are something that will take a long time to get anywhere close to perfect.
-
This wouldn't change anything. People would still loot in empty servers. It's all or nothing IMO. If it was up to me there would be a 'matchmaking' type system where the game automatically dumps you (and whichever friends you want to play) with in an as close to full server as possible.
-
Potentially. I know they currently have a team who have worked on hunting games in the past developing wildlife AI, and sound guys working on the many, many sound issues that the game currently has.
-
I think the player count and in-game player lists should be hidden completely.
-
It works kind of similarly to TrackIR. I think in DayZ you would control your head with your head (as if you were holding Alt), while you use your mouse and keyboard for everything else. I think things like Omni take VR a bit too far, but the Rift in DayZ would be immense!

new to dayz and not sure what to do
Mos1ey replied to celticwarrior06 (DayZ)'s topic in New Player Discussion
Nooo! You're only new and completely lost in DayZ once, and IMO that's when the game's at its best. Just know that loot only respawns when the servers restart so if you want to find food to get yourself started then you're gonna have to get off the coast where everyone spawns as those towns will have been looted already. And to load a Mosin you need to drag the rounds onto the rifle in your inventory. Good luck and have fun! -
You saw what happened when they tried to push updates too quickly... It's better to just take your time, test them fully on experimental and then release them on stable. The next few builds are pretty big, which is why they're taking a bit longer. The new physics and lighting are already in place in the experimental build, and from the look/sound of the last devblog hunting will be added very soon too.

The Anti-Game - Why DayZ will stay a crappy game
Mos1ey replied to tommes's topic in General Discussion
Can we debate without resorting to personal insults please? That goes for everyone. -
I have about 300 hours in L4D2. It's a great game, but it's completely different from DayZ.
-
Haven't broken my legs in 150 hours. :3
-
It just needs more to do. Like, a lot more to do... Once there is a lot more gear, so much that it would take weeks to find all the top-tier items, and things like temperature and sickness are implemented and functioning correctly; I think surviving will be a lot more challenging and rewarding. Not to mention repairing and maintaining vehicles and base building in whatever form it takes.
-
Nope, it's a sandbox game.
