The scary truth about the firestaton...
Mos1ey replied to Cap'n (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Whenever my friends mention the "school" I pretend to not know where they mean until they call it the office... -
Bandits keep the game interesting. I can't imagine the game without them. The balance is way out of whack though. IMO things would be much more interesting if it was closer to a 50/50 split friendlies/bandits, rather than 90/10.
-
Yeah, waiting it out is the way to go. Sometimes we'll have one guy flank while the other(s) keep(s) eyes on, but just running in blind is usually a terrible idea.
-
Not a bad idea TBH. Maybe Ctrl+ Q or E while prone could perform a half roll.
-
Things like this kind of come with the territory of experimental builds. They call it stable for a reason. ;)
-
Again - nowhere near max settings with playable frame rate, but it will run the game fine.
-
The spawn point lottery is part of what makes DayZ so good IMO. I'd rather they worked on combating suiciding for respawning than allowed players to select their spawn point TBH.
-
It would just about run but performance would be dire. The GT 610 is a very, very low spec graphics card. With that kind of budget you'd be best off buying parts and putting the machine together yourself. Absolutely not, sorry. You'll run the game okay, but on low-med settings.
-
Traps - maybe, when basebuilding kicks off. The other 2 have been cited as things that the devs are not interested in persuing on multiple occasions.
-
The medical system is definitely something that the dev team are looking to expand on as development continues.
-
In basic terms they're planning to modify the engine to the point that they feel that calling it the RV (or ArmA 2) engine just wouldn't be right any more. It will be called the Infusion engine, a reference to how it's using the RV engine but will be infused with many other elements that make it unique.
-
I'm hoping that they will be able to increase system utilisation using whatever goodies they have at their disposal here, yes. As always - it depends on your specs though... If you're running a Pentium and a GT 400 series card then I wouldn't get your hopes up, if you're running a fairly modern system then you should see some improvements during the coming months.
-
Like Elle said - experimental is a bit more all over the place than stable. There's usually one big patch and then you might get some hotfixes and maybe a couple of extra bits of new content before it's pushed to stable.
-
Bill Hicks is a member of the dev team, lol. It's not a new engine, they're just modifying it to the point that they feel it deserves a new name - hence Infusion. infusionɪnˈfjuːʒ(ə)n/noun 1. a drink, remedy, or extract prepared by soaking tea leaves or herbs in liquid. "a strong rosemary infusion" 2. the introduction of a new element or quality into something. "the infusion of $6.3 million for improvements"

They aren't literally switching over to a new engine, it's more a case of them ripping things out of the current one and replacing them over time. You aren't going to wake up one morning, see a 5Gb DayZ update and that'll be it done.

That's actually a fairly normal way to handle AI, especially for something like a zombie that just has to wobble around a bit while idle then chase a player while following simple paths through buildings.
-
The zombies vs. walls issue isn't an RV engine specific problem though, it would be the same in a lot of games if the AI pathfinding hadn't been completed.
-
Not really. Without proper pathfinding AI would walk through walls in most games... I'm not 100% sure about the lighting, but I think that's fixable as it doesn't seem to be an issue in Arma 3.
-
That hasn't got anything to do with the engine, that's AI pathfinding.

What's the current hacking status like in DayZ:SA?
Mos1ey replied to RadikulRAM's topic in General Discussion
It's generally pretty easy to determine whether someone is cheating or not if you've been gaming for a little while IMO. -
It's still going to be the same engine, they're just porting a lot of other things into it and messing around with it some more.
-
Have you ever considered leaving the coast? xD
-
Moved to the Gallery.

If it can be done in a modular fashion over time then it's not a new engine in the sense that you were suggesting. That would require a scrap everything and start again approach, as was more than likely pointed out to you in the aforementioned topic.
