Lately I've found myself not playing for fear of losing all my gear to hackers so I'm looking for a safe(ish xD) place to call home. EU host preferred. Not really bothered about time zone, I don't mind playing in the dark sometimes. Somewhere that isn't 100% bandits would be nice, not interested in strictly no-PvP servers though. Anyone know the place for me? ;D

Go in to your Steam library, right-click ARMA II, go to properties, find 'verify integrity of game cache' and do it. Do the same for ARMA II: OA and then restart Steam.

DayZ. When the standalone is released the mod should be renamed Shitcunt Hackfest so we can easily differentiate.

Yup, you'll run the game. Not 100% sure what kind of performance you should expect, but you should be okay on low or medium settings.

View distance is set by the server, it doesn't matter what you set it to. xD Glad to hear you're enjoying the game, even on an older machine, though!

The fucking bus from the Dawn of the Dead remake! It MUST have holes allowing for survivors to wield chainsaws through it though. That's a deal breaker.

No problem. Yeah, loads of 'can I run it?' threads today, lol. Just make sure you set post-processing effects to off. It's ugly, eats FPS and makes your mouse input laggy. Anti-aliasing really kills your FPS in this game too, so you might wanna lose that as well. Enjoy.

€1000?! Did you buy it from an antique dealer? xD If you have the time and money, do what wr6133 said. It will be better in the long run to get a new mobo and some DDR3 components than keep messing around with old parts. :)

Subtitled footsteps would be game breaking... And I'm pretty sure you can set your PC to output in mono, even If the game didn't allow it (which it probably does). -
I'd try to upgrade to a quad-core and add another 2Gb RAM if your mobo has the space for it. Also, this is a stretch but if your mobo has a second SLi slot, I'd stick a second GTS 250 in there. No offence, but I think the PC I had 10 years ago was higher spec than yours. xD

Because not thinking about hackers was how ARMA II (and as a result - DayZ) ended up in this state in the first place.

That's how the game works. You'll die 100 times and learn something new every time, lol. Crouch walk when there are zombies close-by or they'll see you from a mile away. If they start chasing you then go in to full sprint (double tap W), so you don't get hit and can try to lose them. Good luck!

No chance, sorry. If you managed to launch the game on that rig it would probably be reduced to a bubbling pool of molten metal within seconds.

I'm thinking the vehicle crafting Rocket was talking about will probably be more along the lines of reinforcing vehicles with armour or whatever. Crafting a vehicle from scratch seems a little ridiculous.

Pretty much quit playing lately due to hackers etc., waiting for the standalone. Would probably start playing again for this. Also, very much FOR the idea of first-person only. -

It's obviously a problem with your game files. If you bought he game through Steam try verifying your game cache.

The simplest solution would be not to buy shitty Apple products.

Anything that makes hoarding vehicles easier gets a categorical 'no' from me... You were probably hiding all those vehicles on the edge of the map and only getting in them often enough to stop them respawning anyway.
