They're called 'engine parts' though, I always just think of the icon as an easily identifiable representation of what the item is anyway. TBH I wouldn't mind if helis were removed. Yes, it's fun to fly around but civilians being able to transport the parts, repair and fly a heli is a bit crazy... Well the people that are just butthurt about being sniped are gonna realise pretty quickly that this isn't the answer to their prayers, lol. A competent sniper can still easily take you down with a DMR, even a Lee Enfield is bloody lethal in the right hands! TBH I wish they would... The problem is that I can't think of a way around it. Removing vehicles completely or just the need to repair them would be detrimental to the game and making it so that you need a vehicle to carry the parts to repair another vehicle is a bit 'Catch 22'. If someone could think up a decent solution to this I'd love to hear it and I'd love for it to be implemented in the game.
-
They're 'engine parts' not an engine, lol. And I don't think 'there are also x, y and z issues so don't fix the issues that I like' is a very strong argument, hopefully that will also be addressed at some point down the line.
-
Rocket's said that it's highly possible. He would most likely pay another company to develop the console version and I doubt they'd even think about it until DayZ reaches the 1.0 final release on PC (as in after the alpha and beta periods are over) as releasing patches on Xbox Live is incredibly expensive.

I've heard this argument before too and also find it to be a bit flawed. Firstly, for me, the issue isn't about 'balance' at all. Night-vision goggles are another incredibly overpowered item but there's nothing 'unrealistic' about 1) finding them in soviet military areas and 2) carrying them around with you. I just wish they used batteries (which they will in the standalone, hopefully one day in the mod too). My issue is that carrying the rifle plus ammo around with you is nuts, lol. Your arms would be hanging out of their sockets by the time you got from Stary the NW airfield. And secondly, I don't think you need .50cal rifles in the game to instil fear. A DMR, M14, FAL or even an Enfield round will drop and leave you as good as dead. I've dropped multiple players with a bog-standard M4 before they could get a shot off. Believe me, you'll still be taken out if you screw up... xD

No DevBlog this week but here is some screens
Mos1ey replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
I'm 90% sure this topic was only created to ensure that you stay ahead of Fraggle in the bean warZ. :D -
And when you run around with a 14lb rifle plus heavy ammunition you aren't creating a BF3 copycat?
-
It is now! ;D

You're probably comparing it to games that don't really use a whole lot of CPU power. Try PlanetSide 2 or any other intensive open-world game, lol. They're all CPU taxing and your CPU is pretty weak. Hopefully the standalone will be a bit better optimised but I wouldn't expect miracles when you're running on an i3.

Will my pc run it and is it worth getting now?
Mos1ey replied to Trebor901's topic in New Player Discussion
It will run but as above your CPU will limit your frame rates. Would be nice to know exactly which graphics card you have if you want more detailed information. No, you wouldn't have any issues with a Steam installation. Just use DayZ Commander, easy as 1-2-3... http://www.dayzcommander.com/ And yes, you'll easily find a server to play on a fair amount of people still play and there will be a massive boom in the number of players when the 1.7.7 patch drops (any day now...). If you have any more questions please use the Can I Run It? topic, which you can find here... http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/136657-can-i-run-it-ask-here-2/page__st__140 -
I love the way you and the other ghillie guy are just standing there and the other guy's like 'WTF are you doing?! RUUUN!'

Rocket's had his brother (a virologist) write a detailed piece on the fictional 'infection' in DayZ. It's actually fairly plausable.
-
Indeed, it is supposed to be a survival sim. The term Rocket throws around is actually 'anti-game'. With a lot of these things, mainly the current med system, I like to think of them as representing something more realistic. For example bandaging represents dressing wounds, morphine represents splinting the leg and administering pain relief etc. etc. Of course the mod isn't perfect and the devs are always striving to achieve a more realistic experience. I'm sure a lot of these issues will be 'fixed' further down the line, we're still quite early in development. :)
-
Yes, but with extremely poor performance.
-
Yup, your CPU is horribly outdated and you have a lot of very slow RAM, which isn't helpful for gaming as most games use 2-4Gb. The settings suggested above should help you out though. Disable anything that can be disabled and have texture settings set to at least 'normal' as that will put the load on your graphics card, rather than your CPU. I get higher FPS with texture detail set to 'very high' than I do with 'low', lol.

That post's from November, I believe the .50s are actually being removed.

DayZ is a mod for ARMA 2 and DayZ Commander is a third-party program that allows you to easily update your mod and keep track of/join servers. :) http://www.dayzcommander.com/

It's not just Rocket that we're waiting for, if you re-read Joey's post he explained that there's still some last minute tweaking to be done as the zombies are currently acting goofy in 1.7.7.

Well I predict a huge boost in the number of people playing the mod when the 1.7.7 patch is released, there are a lot of changes coming and they look awesome, I think a lot of old players will be drawn back. But I think we'll see an even bigger boost in the number of people playing when the standalone is released, with a tonne of new players as well as returning old players.
-
Yup, I believe they're compatible. Also, the 3570k is a big jump up from a Pentium. Enjoy!

Not a lot, I don't think. ARMA 2 doesn't take SLi setups well.

DayZ origins FPS help And help with budget build?
Mos1ey replied to MattTheIphoneDude's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
RAMDisk isn't really needed unless you're running on a slow hard-drive. If you got an SSD as suggested in the above build then I'd recommend installing ARMA and DayZ to the SSD as it has the same effect but better. -
It's not bad, would probably run with 30-60+ FPS somewhere between normal and high settings.

DayZ origins FPS help And help with budget build?
Mos1ey replied to MattTheIphoneDude's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
The build Rammfisch put together up there is pretty nice, although personally I'd go with the GTX 680 over either of the cards that he pointed out. That would stretch you to the upper boundaries of your budget though. -
DayZ origins FPS help And help with budget build?
Mos1ey replied to MattTheIphoneDude's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
I don't really understand what you're looking for here? With that CPU and seemingly no dedicated graphics card you're lucky to be hitting 20 FPS. When you say you'd like a $1000-1500 system, do you have the money and want help selecting parts or were you just putting that out there?
