Both. They're being removed from the loot tables, banned (all existing .50cal rifles will disappear) and nerfed to 0 damage so that they're useless even to script kiddies.

Getting low fps issue in a 7870 HD 2GB O.o
Mos1ey replied to ThatGuyPT's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Yes, but there's also a huge increase in graphical fidelity. Performance is about the same. -
This sounds incredibly 'gamey' and is definitely not something that I'd like to see in DayZ.
-
Indeed, there's the new client/server architecture but there's also greatly increased graphical fidelity/volumetric clouds/etc. so it more or less requires the same specs as DayZ mod.
-
Too risky, they're avoid or KoS for me.

* [REMOVED] - BAF_L85A2_RIS_CWS (Based on poll) The wording was similar when the L85 was removed. I'm pretty sure the .50s are gone in 1.7.7.

I think R4Z0R did already, 1 sec I'll try and find the post. EDIT: Alright, I can't find it, lol. But that was the impression I got from his post anyways.

I don't think that's right at all. If you look at the changelog from November, originally the drop rate was being lowered. I think the update is that they're being removed (hence the [REMOVED] tag signifying that it's something being removed from the mod as opposed to [NEW]), banned and the damage dropped to 0.

My thoughts on the new updates, whats yours?
Mos1ey replied to beatSTV's topic in New Player Discussion
I don't really like the idea of the circle around the heli crashes, hoping the server that I play on keeps that disabled. Other than that I think pretty much everything sounds good. -
Unfortunately, pretty much everything. The Celerons are very, very old now and you're on an integrated graphics chip, you'll need a decent dedicated graphics card to improve your performance. You'll need a new motherboard to house the new processor and because of that you're gonna have to switch from DDR2 to DDR3 RAM.

That isn't what I meant at all. My point was that removing a couple of high-end military weapons from a survival sim is pretty much the polar opposite of catering to the CoD crowd as all they do is promote deathmatching.
-
Of course... They're removing military weapons to cater to the CoD/BF crowd. It all makes sense now!

How to attach a crowbar to your primary gun after the recent updates?
Mos1ey replied to [email protected]'s topic in New Player Discussion
I haven't actually used this feature but I believe it basically acts as if it was in a third weapon slot, so that you can select it via the scroll menu without dropping your primary. -
I know, lol. His bandit skin will also revert to the old bandit skin the next time he logs in, notice this isn't immersion breaking whereas not having a rifle (that he could easily dispose of in preperation) is.

My cursed item is actually the coyote backpack, not Mountain Dew. Every time I pick one up, it's all downhill from there...

Should there be rewards for surviving a long time?
Mos1ey replied to RollingLizard1's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'd have to say that I don't think so either. A big part of what makes DayZ awesome is permadeath i.e. losing everything when your character dies. The more you have, the more you have to lose. If anything I think we should be going in the other direction and having tents despawn or becoming inaccessible when you die. -
Yes, it will disappear. The .50cals will also be nerfed to 0 damage so that they're useless even to script kiddies.

For all who don't know about the cd-key theft.
Mos1ey replied to Hemgehli's topic in New Player Discussion
I started playing when you had to manually install the files and I didn't use the forums for a good few months. xD I'd bet that most people just punch 'how to install dayz' in YouTube or something. -
I doubt it'll be streamed, but you'll definitely be able to catch a lot of footage on YouTube pretty quickly afterwards. :)
-
There was no release date.
-
I don't think they need testers any more. The patch is finished and has been submitted to Rocket for review.

The number one issue my friends talk about is how the game has turned into kill on sight.
Mos1ey replied to scaramoosh's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
DayZ has been roughly 90-95% bandits since maybe May or June of last year, I'm not sure why you're bringing it up like it's something new. I'd like to see more advantages to teaming up with the random people that you encounter as opposed to things to discourage KoS though. -
Blood bags are one of the only things that encourage co-operation, not a good idea IMO.
-
 No problem!

The standalone is a new game bringing with it a lot of changes. You won't be able to connect to it's servers through the mod. You can find loads of info on what's new here... http://dayzdev.tumblr.com/ Basically, you pay once and then you own the game and get all future updates for free as they're released. It will be released in alpha relatively cheaply and then the price will increase as it moves in to beta and the final release.
