    really laggy on good computer?

    The whole system is a bit well under what I would recommend for ARMA 2/DayZ mod, the graphics card especially. I have a slightly higher spec laptop that I don't have ARMA 2 installed on because it just wouldn't run well.

    I run max settings with post-process disabled and don't drop below 30 FPS, haven't touched my config or start parameters at all yet so I'm sure I could squeeze out a few more frames if I did. I'd assume that your performance will be about the same as in the mod for the minute. I'm sure there's still more optimisation to be done but it is still an intensive ARMA game built on an RV-ish engine.

    Ah, you mean the build from 6 months ago?.. I was given a free copy in February... It just irks me when people make ignorant statements and/or go into Mystic Meg mode and start proclaiming speculation as fact.

    That doesn't change the fact that you could run into all kinds of unanticipated problems caused by working with an unknown engine. You haven't seen the weapon models, again you're making judgements based on a YouTube video. I've only seen the AK-74 so far but it's been reskinned for DayZ and looks great. I'm sure porting weapon sounds over from ARMA 3 won't be a problem, we're in a very early stage of development to be judging things like that, lol. This is starting to remind me of the Redditers complaining about the menu font in the leaked build from February, lol.

    Because it could cause all kinds of issues, whereas DayZ is already in RV3 so why not use that as a base and port in the key features from RV4? In what way is the graphics style nowhere near ARMA 3? The character models look great and the grass is literally imported from ARMA 3, lol. Well originally they were just planning on buffing up the mod and releasing it as a standalone game. The team may have a pretty big task ahead of them since they switched to the 'from the ground up' approach, but it's only a very vocal minority that seem to have a problem with waiting for a few more months for a much better end product. Also, remember Rocket and the team now have the use of the BI studio, it's not as if they only gained a couple of developers from BI...

    FPS Hardware question.

    It's true, most laptops are kitted out with sub-par i7 CPUs, average graphics cards and 5400 RPM HDDs. You're much better off with a desktop for running games like ARMA and DayZ mod. That Ben Affleck video is becoming entirely overused. :S OP - I'd drop your res to around 720p, disable anything that can be disabled in the graphics options and set everything else to (very) low and see if you notice an improvement.

    Sure, but being tied up is pretty easy to convey authentically through your player model and limited movement. My point was that it's difficult to convey the effect that flashbangs have on your sight and vision as well as the general disorientation in a game.

    Yup, the DayZ team are small but dedicated. Patience is a virtue. Pretty much everything useful has already been ported over from Real Virtuality 4, there really wouldn't have been much point in using it. DayZ isn't just using the ToH engine. It's more or less a new engine at this point, using assets from RV 3 and 4. Sure, there are high res textures, volumetric clouds, lighting and grass from ARMA 3. Really, what else did you expect? :S I don't think anyone that complains about an alpha build not being 'polished' should be playing it in the first place, to be quite honest.

  12. Filled out it out. It wasn't a bad poll, every question had an answer that more or less reflected my usual thoughts/actions. Yeah, it also kind of depends on what gear I'm carrying, as well as him and a tonne of other things. Generally the only thing I'll kill for is a vehicle though.

    Depending on how the crossfire goes probably 30-50 on low-medium settings.

    ARMA doesn't really like crossfire setups so you might want to try running the 6670 on it's own and compare performance but yeah, it should run okay.

    It should just about run on 'low' settings in 1280x720 but I wouldn't expect great frame rates, might even be borderline unplayable in big cities. Depends on your graphics settings. With everything maxed, object detail set to around 'normal' and post-process effects disabled you should be able to stay above 45 FPS.

    Have you even looked at the screenshots that were released with the last devblog? Having actually played it - the game looks great... Don't judge it based on YouTube videos when everyone knows how bad their codecs are. :S Sure, he wants to release on console to make more money to fund PC development. He's already talked about it and how if it were to happen it would be handled by a third-party company so that it didn't detract from development of the PC version.

    The problem is that your system is nowhere near powerful enough to run ARMA 2 or DayZ mod. You're only just above the minimum specs required to actually run the game without getting an error message and crashing. Most phones would run TF2 on max graphics these days, you can't compare performance in TF2 to ARMA 2. There isn't much you can do short of upgrading.

    These 'bullshit release dates' never existed, everything he says gets jumbled up and transformed into a release date through word of mouth like a giant game of Chinese whispers. The devs were originally aiming for a 2012 release, and they said that the game would be released by Dec 31st 2012. They then decided that instead of releasing a more polished version of the mod they actually wanted to rebuild it from the ground up because that was the only way to iron out all the bugs that we have in the mod. As a result they missed the 2012 deadline and have not set another date since. 'We will review the situation in July' does not mean we will release the game in July, etc. etc. etc. etc. I don't really think Rocket cares how much money he makes from the game or how many people buy it, I think what's important to him is that they don't rush and release the game too early when it just isn't ready.

    No, I don't think you'll be able to run ARMA 2 or DayZ mod. Sorry! ARMA can be a bit temperamental with AMD hardware, so it's hard to judge FPS but you should be able to run fine on 'high' settings.
