They used o have very clear meanings, but I'd say those have most definitely become blurred.

Confused about how new features are pushed to stable for testing.
Mos1ey replied to brazorf's topic in General Discussion
I'm stating that the developers do not intend for their paying customers to "test" DayZ in the same way that hired testers would. -
Yes, if you delete your config the game will create a new default one the next time that you launch it. This will restore all settings to default though, obviously.
-
Texture detail and terrain details are the only ones that you can really get away with without suffering from performance loss. You could try adding some antialiasing too, but your frame rate will more than likely take a slight hit. As for launch options - you'll more than likely want: -cpuCount=4 -exThreads=4 -maxMem=2048 -MaxVRAM=1024 The difference isn't exactly night and day, but you should see a difference. You should also go into your config and change the following values too... GPU_maxframesahead 1; GPU_detectedframesahead 1;

Server maintenance. Every Wednesday. Usually lasts a few hours, then the servers will be back up.

Moved to DayZ Mod > Gallery. Please try to post in the correct sub-forums in future.

Confused about how new features are pushed to stable for testing.

^This. Everything is tested internally before it's let loose on experimental, nevermind stable. Also, when you have 2,000,000 players running around instead of a group of 5 or 10 testers, bugs tend to be uncovered pretty quickly without people having to go out of their way to look for them. -
Using multiple servers to navigate your way around high population areas is known as ghosting and is considered an exploit, not a legitimate tactic. It's the main reason that I always preferred private hives in the mod TBH.
-
Server restarts are required to stop the servers from becoming bogged down and slow, unfortunately.
-
When it's finished. It usually only lasts a few hours though.

Why does my screen flash a light shade of blue when getting shot at? (Not trolling, I'm legitimately curious)
Mos1ey replied to cheeseburger8's topic in New Player Discussion
I'm not sure exactly what you saw but those sound like colour blindness tests to me, lol. -
The game will be heavily optimised later in development, but I don't think it will ever run particularly smoothly on that system unfortunately. As well as being poorly optimised in its current state, it is quite a hardware intensive game.
-
As above there is no humanity type system planned for development, that was a deliberate design decision.

It would make it much less accessible and as a result a less widespread problem though. I'm not sure why they don't just reduce the range - i.e. it goes from 0 to 2.0 now and 1.0 is the default, reduce the range to 0.75 to 1.25...

I think his point is that in connecting to a server called "PvP - KILL ON SIGHT SERVER" you're making a statement that you are there to fight and should expect the same from everyone else. I mean, someone who wants to make friends with other survivors isn't likely to connect to that server, are they? When you connect to a server called "PvE ONLY - NO KoS" there is a higher possibility that the players in the server are not looking for PvP. Server names mean nothing in that the admin are not allowed to enforce any "no KoS" rules, but it does somewhat affect the kind of people that you are likely to encounter in that server. Of course you will get trolls, griefers and people who just plain don't like admin trying to enforce rules that should not be allowed PvPing in a "PvE only" server, but I'm sure the numbers will be markedly reduced.

You can find all the info on server hosting rules and how to report server owners who violate the ToS here... http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/158966-dayz-standalone-server-hosting-rules-server-reporting/

why are bags so rare compared to other items ?
Mos1ey replied to dgeesio's topic in General Discussion
I only have one backpack and I'd be damn sure to take it with me when I left for wherever I was planning on holding up for the zombie apocalypse. Also, you have to remember that it's very likely that you would not be the first person to go looting in DayZ, hence supermarket shelves not being fully stocked etc. The majority of the good stuff will already be gone before the game takes place. -
I didn't realise that we were able to embed from Twitch here.

Well yes, actually the 360 and PS3 were both struggling massively to run games at 30 FPS in 1280x720 by the end of their lifespan but as has already been explained to you - the 360 and PS3 hardware was higher spec on release than the XBOX One and PS4... Anyways, as you rightly point out - we are off topic here and this clearly isn't going anywhere so we may just have to agree to disagree.
-
Even in the next 2-3 years the XBOX One and PS4 will be struggling to keep up. Which game series? In all honesty the only "exclusives" that have even remotely interested me as of late have been PC exclusives.

I'm so glad i have this flashlight in the Zombie Apocalypse
Mos1ey replied to Billyboblikespie's topic in General Discussion
You spawn with a flashlight so that people can't complain about night time, otherwise you would spawn with nothing. -
Yes, but I'm sure you'll upgrade at some point within the next 10 years... Consoles are stuck with what they have, which was my original point.
-
True, and it's easier to optimise a game when you only have to take one hardware configuration into consideration, but the low spec hardware can still only do so much...
-
You're missing the point, lol. The current gen consoles will have to last 10 years until the next ones come out. In 10 years I'm sure all games will be fully utilising 8 cores and 16Gb RAM.
