Would you quit if servers went expert?
Grey Warden replied to bad_mojo (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The only thing i want is crosshairs. Even though i use ironsights to aim i like it being there for my hatchet as without it i can't hit the broad side of a barn (with a CQ weapon?), just feels stupid. Its not like its 100% accurate anyways and breathing after running makes it an insanely wide reticule. Nameplates have to be off. No question its stupid to know where that player is sitting even though his 1000m away under a tree and in ghille! Never played on a server with bullet lines on so i don't know what that looks like. 3rd person is optional as i don't mind it with or without. For the tricks like looking over a wall etc i just think "well everyone can do it so its not an advantage i have over others as they could do the same. Saying that i find it much more challenging in 1st person and in firefights i change to 1st anyways as its easier to aim (or driving too). kill messages i ignore for the most part and they don't confirm a kill for me as someone else could have died at the same time. Also its annoying to see: Survivor3 was killed Survivor3 was killed Survivor3 was killed Survivor3 was killed as someone keeps hitting respawn to get to better locations (aparantly you can still hit the button if fast enough but i'm not fast enough or my computer is faster but my button doesn't work). -
We'll fry them alive with our hex vision! Well you will i'll just push the report button and go roleplay me being an admin putting the hammer down on all spammers, the Spam Hammer that is! (seriously a giff needs to be made about Thor and Captain America in that scene in The Avengers with Thor weilding the spam hammer and Capt being a bot, you know where he says "i'll put the hammer down!").

Same. I've been noticing an increase (not a huge amount but an increase nonetheless) but personally they aren't a problem to me as i just ignore them. If a thousand posts were being made every minute by spambots then it would be a different story!

Considering what's not working on DayZ
Grey Warden replied to Itsnotcrazyuntilchachacha's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Make sniper rifles so god damn rare that they are as uncommon as a fully working heli is now. This will force many bandits into closer engagements and so more deadlier and more intense and personal. Increase numbers of zeds and make them a danger, like grapples. More CQC weapons like baseball bats, hammers, golf clubs, heck even a katana! (rare). Then make these weapons the most common of all types (except katanas and the such). Ammo needs to be rare even for civilian guns. It should mean that every shot has to count. Fuel needs to be rare. Food needs to be very hard to come by except in cities where its dangerous as hell (more tight spaces like small alleys etc). Hunting for game should be hard as animals will run away from you if they hear you (think hunting deer). But things like traps and growing food should be available but takes a long time. The ability to actually make a base and no i don't mean '20 tents in a castle base'. I mean the ability to fortify and maintain a 'stronghold' for you and maybe others to seek shelter and protection. Just make everything rare so if you see a loot spawn its more than just "flares? pfft!" and instead it would hopefully be "wow i found some flares!". The game quickly becomes boring after say 1-2 hours of playing when you have everything you need to survive in the wild (hatchet, matches, knife, water bottle) so then you look for guns and then for players. People who aren't pvping are usually the ones still in the first 1-2 hours of new spawn. Even Heroes tend to get bored and start hunting bandits. Make this a longer time and also a more intense time as many more people will be looking for the items and might decide it would easier to just take what you found (actually a bandit then). -
Why side chat is great/Storytime
Grey Warden replied to Muncywolverine's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I do think that you should be able to stop it from showing up on your screen for those that don't like it. I've been standing in the middle of a field before because i was talking to someone via side chat and got carried away (forgot where i was ingame) and then suddenly saw my screen and thought "fuck i need cover as i'm a sitting/standing duck!" -
Why side chat is great/Storytime
Grey Warden replied to Muncywolverine's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I love side chat for these kind of interactions. One of the first things i do when logging into a new server is check for side chat. If none then i leave and find another. People are generally more friendly and the fights with bandits easier to find (bandit ambushes too = more tension). -
Interview request for zombie article
Grey Warden replied to flimnit's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Thats the impression that i got from that video. I never thought you were 'letting it go to your head' just that you were a fair and practical man. Uploading and editing takes along time and its not your fulltime job to do, so just a hobby if anything, so i don't hold it against you if you did stop. Would you be doing any for SA? Anyways thanks for all your hard work and good luck with everything man! I'll be looking out for the rest of the interviews (and the recent kidnapping event, which i sadly can't be a part of due to time restraints) -
If the bandit skins are still in the standalone I'm going to be pissed.
Grey Warden replied to electroban's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
His not trying to offer different options his putting out his opinion about the skins. Not sure if he likes or dislikes the 'humanity meter' but things shouldn't be forced on the player. Which is why i suggested things that do not deal with the player like the 'study body' and stuff. In my opinion its just a game mechanic and like any other game there will always be things you don't like and things that you like. For me i don't like the way Zeds spawn (should always be around so not to alert snipers) but i see that if all zeds were around all the time it could cause some serious lag issues for some so i weigh up which is more important. Alerting snipers or lag. For me the more pressing problem is lag so i accept the Zed spawn mechanic. Same with the skins. I don't like it much like the OP doesn't (forced character model change). But without it (in my opiniion at least) it lead to more or less complete KOS action which was boring so i weighed up the pros and cons and found that i didn't mind the skins as i hated the KOS mentality more (and as others have stated there are many ways to get rid of the skins: ghille, camo clothing, waiting for humanity to raise enough for instance did you know that killed zeds apparantly raises humanity, not confirmed though not sure?, transfusion). -
One thing I love about DayZ...

Love the mod! (for said tension but also its unique) Sometimes hate the players though. (you know the ones, the griefers who aren't always hackers). -

Thank you! Someone who actually can talk about the topic and not just troll it! have some beans! BTW good idea! See we are making progress! As for you Dreygar. I am not looking for sympathy (if anything the OP is). All i am trying to do is add to the thread he started. If your not going to add anything then i kindly ask you to get the fuck out (better spelled out i find). What are your reasons for not having any indicators whatsoever? Did you play any extensive amount during the one of times DayZ didn't have this mechanic? what was your experience (not opinion) on the amount of KOS. -

One of your videos was about how your only pushing out a few more vids and calling it a day. Unless i missed another saying you were coming back into it. It was something "thank you and goodnight" titled. You were still uploading more vids but you weren't making more vids (just the backdated ones that are still on file). Sorry if i am wrong, i hope i am wrong your videos were/are badass! -

You just don't get it do you? I am trying to brainstorm for ideas here! How the fuck does that not get through your head?! I don't see you giving ideas to the thread! If all you want to do is bicker and sling around insults then i have nothing to say to you, goodbye! Fucking trolls. -

In that example given to us the shotgun character did not say to the hatchet guy that he had a shotgun so how could he have known? Afterall he ran past the shotgun guy so thats what i assumed. -

People often call people a fanboy due to them not agreeing with you. Only have to read comments about the flame wars on PS3 versus Xbox360 for an example. -

Slow down there mate! I am merely putting ideas out there. I know they aren't great but i am trying to brainstorm and get people thinking about improving the mechanic and not just bickering. At no point have i whined about being killed alot your making alot of assumptions there mate. What about telling you what ammo was used? (digging out the bullet/shrapnel?), it will be very inconclusive evidence but also not very accurate as many guns can use the same ammo type (5.56 for example). Edit: fuck it, sorry for double post. -

"Edit: what about blood splatters on players who murdered recently? Flies follow them after a while but a change of clothes (found in houses at random and common like flares) would get rid of that straight away? (hiding it). But you have to burn the old clothes or something. Or the 'study body' actually telling you how they died (what weapon). At least then if you see someone nearby with the same weapon you have a good (not 100%) indicator if that player is a bandit or not. Giving chances to interrogate the other player before approaching them etc." I edited my last post as i don't like double posting. Not sure if people saw this but what your thoughts? -

I didn't say i don't want banditry. Just i don't want KOS only. Please read post again this time actually read what it says and not post 'smart' remarks like that, i don't like trolls. Thank you. -

Everyone look at me! I'm the one who wants a game that not only provides a nice survival experience but also your tension of other players and bandits. What i do not want is not being able to make friends ingame and team up as this to me is where the fun is. Yes theres friends IRL who play the game and teamspeak with clans etc outside but they never have the same feeling as teaming up with a complete unknown. I don't want KOS that shit is for COD and BF and Halo not DayZ. I want tension but i also want community and be able to intereact with people more than just 'shoot 'em'. Edit: what about blood splatters on players who murdered recently? Flies follow them after a while but a change of clothes (found in houses at random and common like flares) would get rid of that straight away? (hiding it). But you have to burn the old clothes or something. Or the 'study body' actually telling you how they died (what weapon). Agreed that Maybe because theres more survivor skins out there? But i can also say that i have been killed more by survivor skins than bandit skins but thats more to the point that i rarely find people with bandit skins. It is a sandbox and i see where your coming from (always have since your first post). Like the idea of karma and in a single player game it would work (well wouldn;t as there would be no players to murder but still). But its multiplayer so having less gear spawns because theres a bandit nearby would be annoying for those trying to gear up when a bandit is camping a roof nearby (punishing the wrong player with said karma). Personally i think all weapons bar some sidearms should be rare and military ones should be very rare. More improvised weapons like hammers etc. The Zeds need to be more threatening so a loud shot from a bandit's rifle would do more then alert players nearby but also bring a horde of Zs to his location and maybe they can grab and stuff too. Maybe instead of skins there should be 'twitches' made by the murderer that are subtle but are still there. So someone watching another player would have to watch closely and for a longer time to find out whether bandit or not and not just see it straight away (skin). Twitches could be stuff like head jerking or character scratching his arm, or walking with a slight limp, or making strange sounds (breathing heavily all the time for instance to show a slight mental breakdown of murdering someone) anything. As i said before, what we have isn't perfect but its something. Did you play at the time they were testing without the skins? It was basically a warzone (or an average COD game) and not the DayZ experience everyone wanted. Maybe i was just unlucky during that time but that was my experience. -

Of course! hey what about there being lots of anti armor sniper rifles about even though even in todays standards they are quiet rare! or taking 24 painkillers at once and not even feeling ill for it! Don't start at me mate, not in the mood for bickering, either respond in a more mature way or fuck off, ok? As for post 59 i am sorry but you seem to have more free time then me so how about you go look for it for me. "player-reactive game features"? what planet are you on? breaking your legs on a ladder or doorway not immersion breaking for you? then WTF is? I'm sorry you claim to want immersion but fail to realise alot of stuff is game mechanics which will ALWAYS break the forth wall. (no offense meant here either mate just i fail to see where your comming from when your the one saying about immsersion, i just wanted to point out a few other flaws that break that but people seem fine with). -

In a game where you can respawn, run to tent, regear and go back to whatever you were doing before. Or how about drive a car or even a Helicopter with no training! Or even better be able to repair said cars and helis without training or 'engineering for dummies' manuals. Maybe the fact that Zombies are running around is kinda obvious too as not being realistic. What about healing a broken bone with a small shot of morphine! Or survive multiple shots to the chest and eat a steak and feel much better! Yeah realism! -

Grey Warden replied to flimnit's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Why not just post up your questions here and have a wider population give their answers? It would be more accurate then just the interview of 1-2 players who could be anything ingame (newbie, medic, bandit, hoarder, hacker, hero etc) all with their own views (a bandit would value an AS50 over the Hatchet but it doesn't make it the best weapon etc).
