Women in a game does not equal Rape
goldblock replied to Mongra's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I have to agree, rape is never funny. Unless you're being raped by a clown. -
You know you've played too much Day Z when...

I thought this thread was going to be about that guy in Miami who just got shot by the cops while eating a guy's face. -
WTF is happening to the server community.

I've seen a lot of people put forward, as some incontrovertible truism, this idea that in the absence of laws people revert to some natural instinct to murder each other on sight for the slightest of reasons. I just don't accept that as true at all. I think facing a common threat as in DayZ, by far the overriding response would be to band together in the face of it. I'm not trying to be insulting but perhaps it's a societal/cultural issue. Personally I just don't recognise that picture of humanity at all. I live in a society where people rush into burning buildings to rescue complete strangers. Most people, upon seeing a burning building will call for help, assist as best they can without putting themselves at risk. I don't understand how so many people here seem to think that on seeing a burning building the majority would naturally board up the doors and windows to trap the people inside and then go loot the garage of any valuables. I think that's more of a bitter, lonely internet dweller's interpretation of what people are like. It tells me more about the person who feels like that than anything else. -
That does make a lot more sense. I was thinking the wood could be renamed 'kindling' or something and represent some dry twigs leaves that you need to prepare to start a fire since Chernarus looks pretty damp and most wood lying around is probably water logged. Lighter fluid works just as well though.

I'm fine with food/water levels degrading while logged off but there should be a 20 second or so grace period on login to eat/drink before your health starts ticking down. As it stands by the time my screen has loaded my health is already ticking down. It seems wrong as it's not as if you would starve to death in your sleep (or whatever the justification for hunger/thirst while logged out is). I suggest a 15-20 second grace period on logging in to enable you to open your gear and eat the food/drink you prepared before logging out.

why sacrifice carebears safety for sake of bandits ?
goldblock replied to unsobill's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Personally I really liked the old KSK bandit skins. I can't think of many things cooler than Germans v zombies. Maybe vikings v zombies, or pirates v vikings but I doubt Rocket has time to implement those costumes. I'm so sick of the blurry, baseball cap 'tax attorney gone hiking' look, hope they introduce the new skins soon and I can be a tea towel wearing German again. -
Yes it does sound like a bug cos it's a fly.

Which T-Shirt design would you buy?

Should do one that says "FRIENDLY?" over the logo or something. That's one word that will henceforth always be associated with DayZ for anyone who has played it. -
Date/Time: 23/05/2012 about 00:30 GMT What happened: I was crawling along and gently bumped into a tree which caused me to start rolling around on the ground crying like a premier league footballer. I then got the you are dead screen. I think this bug was said to be known about but I believed it was supposed to have been fixed hence am reporting it still present in 1.5.8.2. Where you were: In the middle of the forest , due north of devil's castle. What you were doing:crawling through some trees. *Current installed version:1.5.8.2 *Server(s) you were on:Cze2 *Your system specs:i5-2500k, 8g ram, ati 6950 2gb. *Timeline of events before/after error: before :I had just finished a beer and was admiring my lovely new 24 slot backpack. after: screamed completely inappropriate racial epithets at computer screen and backhanded half-full jar of olives across the floor.

A long, logical approach to the "Bandit Problem"
goldblock replied to JudgeX's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I see what you're getting at; that it's meant to be a zombie survival mod with pvp but it's actually becoming more of a pvp mod with zombies. From what's been said up to now however I don't think you should expect much to be introduced to limit pvp. It doesn't seem like Rocket wants to get involved in it. I think much of your "bandit problem" can be alleviated through greater use of tents. Those who tend towards the survivor role seem to enjoy the process of venturing out to find stuff. Collecting and gathering. Once tent use becomes more mainstream the pain of being pk'd should be much less severe as you'll only be losing your 'working gear' and you can still rush back to your stash and gear up a new guy. Can you store a tent in a tent? It would be a sort of solution. Remember also that once the mod is finished there'll probably be much more leniency towards different rulesets for servers or even sub-mods and custom versions of Dayz, as there are with cti etc. So if a section of the playerbase want an altered rule set I'm sure there will eventually be a way to cater to that. -
I made a little web page to help me ingame. Check it out.

Good stuff. -
I don't get this obsession with getting an m4, they suck balls. I've thrown three of them away. The guy who said guns don't matter is more or less right. Of course it depends on how you're choosing to play in this sandbox. If this is a gear grind for you and you want increasingly rare loot to show off with then fair enough, but if your objective is to survive then any small advantage conferred by the rare weapons is countered a thousand fold by the risk involved in farming the barracks for them and their ammo. I've been there a hundred times, constantly with heart in mouth as I'm well geared and don't want to die, and afterwards I always come away with the same sense that it was such a foolish and unnecessary risk. I still go though, for the adrenaline I guess, there's little else to do once you're kitted out at this point in the game. 'No' to increasing loot quality at the deer stands. It's already too high considering how easy it is to get hold of. Why is all this high end military gear sitting around in remote hunting stands anyway? Some basic military items should be added to the residential loot tables so very rarely you can find a basic m4 or ak74 in a house etc. Then replace the deer stand military loot with a new category of "hunting/wilderness loot". Great place for newbies to easily acquire knife, compass, map, cz, tent, backpack etc besides the supermarkets.
