If you watch some of the Arma III videos and see how complete the engine is you will see that the possibility of a Dayz standalone coming out pretty soon is quite good. There is a huge detailed map already done with every building enterable and destroyable. The near future setting is described as "semi post apocalyptic" already. There are lots of civilian character models pretty easy to modify for Dayz characters / zombies. (skip 1st minute) -
Why nobody will be buying Day Z standalone

Convert to the church of Strategos ? Nah I don't think religion has any place post apocalypse eh ;) But we could certainly do with a bit more reason and rational thought around here. -
Nobody reads these forums

I guess it would help if people used the search function and didn't repeat the same suggestions 10 times a day eh. -
DayZ Development Blog #1: The end of the beginning

I'd be very surprised if it isn't Arma III Im also amazed some people didn't think this would happen, this has always been inevitable. Of course they could never say as much because they were working out the details with BI. Also having a proper team working on it, using an engine that is already (pretty much) developed will mean very fast progress. Exciting times. And those people that don't like the Amra II engine I think are really missing the importance of that engine in Dayz's success. So many of the features in the Arma II engine wouldn't make it into a "normal" game because they would be deemed superfluous or too hardcore. And the problems that have made hacking such a problem in the mod are also features that helped the development of the mod so successfully. Maybe everyone can chill out a bit now eh? :) -
How many of you would stop killing players if there were achievements?
Strategos (DayZ) replied to hazedaze's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Poll is missing the "Achievements have no place in Dayz EVER" option. -
I agree. Im running with an L85 now even though I hate them just because of the advantage it gives an opponent if you dont have one. It really breaks the night time dynamic of the game Anyone that thinks they can't be used up close obviously hasn't figured out the NVG / Laser / hip fire combo.

I dislike mechanics that tell me how I'm feeling. One of the great things about DayZ is the emotions it evokes. Stress, fear, uncertainty , guilt, rage. I get happy if I do well I don't need the game to stick a number on it. Hunger, thirst , fatigue, health these are things the game can tell me, this is feedback about the physical state of my character that I require, and things that are universal. You can't predict someone's mental state, everyone reacts differently to harsh conditions, trying to do so breaks immersion.

Remove items from tent. When tent is empty save tent. That is then dealt with. If you haven't spread the loot far away flatten the tent as well so they can't put the stuff back in if they happen upon it all before a server restart.

Still possible to place Camps outside the Map?
Strategos (DayZ) replied to Growbian's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I found one vehicle on an offgrid search and not many at all on my on grid search. I suspect its still happening. Of course those doing it aren't going to pipe up here and confirm it are they. -

I think the idea is that as survivors we are the small percentage of the population that have a natural immunity. -
Currently duping tent cities are an inifnite resource. People find them then use them to restock everytime they die. This means all the other players in the game end up always having basically all the gear, L85, gillies, NVG etc. So it's tactically sound to remove that resource from your enemy. Plus it escalates, people take the good gear then add it to their own camps which then also dupe. Before long the wholes server is flooded with loot that is supposed to be extremely rare.

My thoughts after 2 months of play
Strategos (DayZ) replied to Trickster (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Well im def old school :) I've been gaming since, well since there were games. And while I appreciate structured games I find sandbox experiences where you see emergent behaviour much more rewarding. When i see videos of trading posts, medics rescuing people, bandits kidnapping people, people setting up taxi services i think it's brilliant. I only get bored if I get precious about my gear and stop doing anything. If you get back into it and start taking risks it becomes rewarding again and that is when Dayz really shines. And when I die I try and do something different before I get geared up again, helping noobs in Cherno or something and I find the game really interesting again, even if I die a few times :) I think the direction is right and when Rocket adds some more options it will become more so. Better base building would be interesting, in my suggestions list below there is a great thread on Generators and powerstations, although i think whole power stations are a bit OTT I like the principal. Also as discussed above harder more rewarding survival will make day to day play more interesting. -

I like your Codex, but of course the joy of sandbox is that you can do what you like, and the sorrow of people in general is that if there is a mechanic they will use it. Then of course anyone using your codex will be at a massive disadvantage. In an ideal world everyone would play "honestly" but the world is far from ideal! In the end most of the problems just need ot be fixed. I made a post about standardising servers. http://dayzmod.com/f...dardise-things/ The game needs to apply the right pressures to players without forcing them down a specific path. Rocket understands this very well and im confident that the process we are going through will result in a game that results in something approaching your idealised version of player behaviours. It's hard to see the long term results of design decisions with this many people, look at the whole bandit skin issue! I'm also anti anything that makes the game easier, I believe it needs to be harder so that players are more focused on surviving, which also highlights the advantages of teaming up. Again it's all about pressures. We currently have a situation where there is simply too much good loot in the game and survival is much too easy. Rather than saying to people "dont make a camp" I say fix tents so they work as originally intended and make loot and ammo rarer, especially the high end stuff. There's a debate about this stuff going on right now here http://dayzmod.com/f...months-of-play/ - I dont agree with all his points but it's an interesting thread. EDIT - apologies I see you came from there :) -

"I agree that granted they are safer but they aren't really doing anything, and then you lose intrest." Well this isn't true I'm an "end game" player and I very rarely get bored. Hunting player camps, helping out my mates, making my own camp, vehicle hunting and trying to track down that damn helicopter all keep me very occupied. The game is what you make of it. Which obviously isn't everyone's cup of tea. I'm not saying there shouldn't be more content but there are many possibilities to try to make the game entertaining. -

We are getting closer to the same page I think But hunting etc isn't going anywhere and shouldn't it should just be more realistic. Rocket loves the survival aspects of the game , inspired as it is by his own survival training in the army. Your premise is good though , as a sandbox game it's all about creating the right pressures on the players but still giving them freedom. As you rightly point out No 1 is the major problem right now. We can't even assess the situation properly until this is fixed. I like the limited matches idea. Add it to the various options I posted. I don't think the map is perfect but you need wilderness to allow people to make camps. When i play i almost exclusively hunt player camps and it is a great part of the game I would hate to see removed. The further away you make the camp the more of a penalty you pay in travel times so most people tend to make them in places that arn't that close. Had some brilliant encounters doing this. The tension is fantastic. You may think the map is to big but it is already easy to find camps. -

Nice to see a reasonable post for a change. 1: I agree 100% certainly the biggest issue right now. I made a post recently asking for a reset just to get things back to normal for a little bit. http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/55238-dear-rocket-reset-please/ 2: This is linked to 3. 3: I dont think this is the solution. I think the wilderness survival aspect is great and should be encouraged. The solution to this imho lies in Ammo and gear. Without duping, and unlimited ammo bug, people will have to go into towns etc for ammo, fuel, necessities like that. I also believe ammo and high end gear shouls be rarer all round, to make it a scrabble for survival. This goes for military gear, blood bags, survival gear the lot. Maybe gear degradation and repair. Tents also need to have their originally intended life span after you die and not last forever. This stuff might also pull the focus away from PvP a bit (i like pvp btw) and force people to "just survive" a bit more. In my suggestions list below there are also some points about making the wilderness aspect of the game a bit more involved to make hunting harder etc.
