    Trail of Cans.

Rocket has already explained why this isnt in the game.
  2. Strategos (DayZ)

    Your DayZ development priorities?

I think the problem is that some of these things CANT be fixed in the mod. So my development top priority is the Standalone game.
  3. Strategos (DayZ)

    General Discussion Slowly Dying?

The forum is becoming pretty tedious. Trying to get anyone to actually discuss anything with even a modicum of intelligence is ..... futile.

    Haters gonna hate (AS50)

"And what is the definition of fair here? Should I drop my equipment and get into a fistfight with every player I encounter? I think what would be called fair here is just human compassion. And that I have a lot. But why should I be fair or spair your life if you or your actions are just about to kill me? " Nox your arguments are fatuous. But that's what i would expect from someone that entitles a thread "Haters gonna hate". I think anyone with half a brain can see that there are overpowered weapons in Dayz. Which are currently mainly used by griefers. As Dayz is a game it's perfectly acceptable to discuss the role of these weapons and the focus of the gameplay without whining or hating. Especially in our roles as alpha testers. My personal opinion is that the high end military gear should go. The medium spec military gear should saty but be VERY rare (after duping is fixed) and mainly players shold be civilian survivors struggling to stay alive. There is def a role for long range weapons but I think the CZ 550 should be as far as it goes most of the time. Its good for overwatch, and can kill with a headshot if you are good but isn't overpowered.

    Haters gonna hate (AS50)

I use the AS50 and love it. That doesn't mean it's right for this game. But until standalone we wont know as the current game is completely out of kilter as most people have infinite ammo and infinite guns. Sure you can choose to play legit but as most of the players out there will always take advantage of the mechanics available it's a bit irrelevant. Ill judge the balance of these weapons when the standalone comes out and fixes duping and tents.
  6. "Duping isn't a gameplay issue. It's a bug that (hopefully) will be fixed." I believe Rocket has said is can't be fixed in the mod due to issues with the Arma II engine. "I think if your tent(s) destroyed on character death, that would make the game way way better." Tents are supposed to disappear 2 days after you die. I don't think that mechanic ever worked.

    Should the Mod be abandoned

There are a few issues in the mod form of Dayz which are breaking the gameplay experience fundamentally: Primarily, duping, whether it is by tents or other means, though I personally believe the immortal self replicating tents are our biggest problem. Rocket has stated that duping CANNOT be fixed in the mod due to the limitations of the Arma II engine. This brings us to a situation where (as Alpha dictates) we are testing new features (ie humanity is visible again) BUT we are testing these features on top of a broken framework, a world where people have infinite gear. How can you test the bandit skin when bandits don't have to mix with the survivors ? They die, run back to their tents and are ghillie suited up with NVG , range finders and GPS within 20-30 minutes tops. Go back to their bushes and continue as if nothing happened. Also hacking is endemic now , destroying the game play experience for many people. That means the alpha testing we are undertaking is no longer giving meaningful results. That makes me wonder should the Mod be abandoned so that the dev team can focus all their efforts on the standalone using an engine without these issues. Rather than fighting with all the problems an Arma II mod faces? Most of the arguments and crap posted on this forum is caused by currently unavoidable issues with the mod. I wonder if the mod is now causing more harm than good. Vote and comment :)

    Should the Mod be abandoned

"having the mod atm is very useful to rocket for he can now experiment with the game even more, this wil help in his development in the stand alone game, you shouldn't even ask this question imo common sense activate! " Im confused why people think the mod is required to test "crazy shit" the standalone can test what it wants in just the same way, but more effectively as they have control over the entire source.

    Should the Mod be abandoned

An Alpha is a stage of development towards a finished product. We the players have provided enough of a buzz that DayZ is actually being produced as a standalone game. Essentially we have done our job. Not only that the hacking and duping is by Rockets own admission unsolvable in the mod. I'm not seeing the logic in keeping man power on it that could be used to get the standalone out sooner for us all to enjoy. But everyone is entitled to their opinion :) Myself although I play waaaay too much of the mod when i get the chance I'll be playing standalone and the sooner the better.

    Should the Mod be abandoned

"While I feel like the OP is biased towards one answer, it's still a legitimate question." Obviously I have my opinion :) I put the poll on so we can see everyones opinion not just mine, discussion on this forum doesn't usually go very well after all does it Im not sure the I"I bought Arma just for this argument" stands up. Mods come and go , there's thousands of them out there, people seem to think just because this mod is popular they are somehow owed something. You chose to buy a game to play a mod that was in alpha. Surely the risks of doing that must be apparant ? There was never even any guarantee it would become a full game, but now we've all got what we wanted. Judging by the poll only a few people are not going to bother buying the full game. If you are going to do that why would you continue playing the mod? Are you going to play both at the same time ? I can't see the logic.

    Should the Mod be abandoned

"they already said the mod and standalone are going to be updated together and that is how it should be. if you don't want to play anymore don't. to say stop developing the mod because you can't deal with the things that come along with an alpha a dumb argument." Did you read my post ? I didn't say any of the things you just assumed. And I made several valid points that are nothing to do with my ability to "deal with" things. Im also aware they have stated the two are going to be developed in tandem. I'll re-iterate just to be clear. Rocket (u know the guy that made the mod) has stated that some problems in the mod cannot be fixed. So with this in mind wouldn't you rather the dev team focused ALL their time and efforts on the standalone where they have access to the source and can produce an alpha build free of the problems that hamper the mod? I'm a huge fan of the mod , this seems to me to just be common sense. " i think rocket is using the mod now to gauge public oppinion, and develop the mod based on feedback." Of course, but lets face it we are all looking forward to the standalone, and are nearly all going to play it. So an open alpha in the standalone will serve the same purpose.

    Should the Mod be abandoned

"voted but i do have to say what a bullshit thread.. cry cry whine whine etc etc" May I retort by saying what a bullshit post. Theres no crying or whining, just an opinion and a vote to see what people think. Grow up.

    Should the Mod be abandoned

I dont think the money thing is an issue here, you signed up to Dayz to be an alpha tester , and have a full game (ArmaII) for your money. If they release the standlaone at a reasonable price point you've probably still paid less than a full retail game and been a fundamental part of the development. Why waste time on a mod that cant be fixed ? Why would you feel dumped they have got standalone! That has always been the goal of the mod. We have done our job!
  14. Strategos (DayZ)

    Should the Mod be abandoned

"The mod will remain a useful testing ground for different ideas so I'd like to see it continue. But Fraggle the fundemental problems that cannot be solved prevent meaningful testing. Wouldnt you rather see an alpha test on a stable platform and test new ideas there? Tiaitchsi you really are missing the point by a huge margin. I can't even be bothered correcting you because all the points I already raised still stand.

Totally lost any faith I had in Rocket/dev team

LHO you're speaking from a position of almost zero knowledge I suspect. Of course that is supposition on my part, but it is an educated guess based on the ignorance displayed in your posts. (not to mention your username). Consider the transitional phase the project is in, and then try an imagine that they may have had other things to deal with. Also read my previous post here http://dayzmod.com/f...180#entry665518 Then go away and try and grow a brain.

    just wow so sad

I think the topic title says it all, just possibly not in the way the OP intended.

Duping seems to be fixed with the new DaYZ

"As for duping... It's not that I don't believe the people that say it cannot be avoided... But somehow I have. Two tents, nothing has ever duped... But I placed them once and left them, so only used in a very simple fashion. " You have your tent. Take something out of it. Come back after a server reset , said item is back in the tent AND in your inventory. The only way to solve this is to save the tent every time you put something in or take something out. Do you do that ?
  18. Strategos (DayZ)

Totally lost any faith I had in Rocket/dev team

People just don't understand alpha at all. And suggesting the dev team aren't testing stuff is patently ridiculous. They close test each patch before release finding what issues they can. But a small closed test is VERY different to releasing it on a system with 1,000,000 registered users and 200k concurrent users. This is why most companies do Alpha in house, and closed Beta tests because people just aren't cut out for this stuff. Everyone( well a majority) perceives this as a finished game with issues, NOT as an unfinished game they are testing. This is obvious from the blind sense of entitlement they all display in their demands and cries of outrage. Edit: On the other side of the coin, Rocket gets to see how features work with a huge test sample or real players, which in the end SHOULD create a better game.

Duping seems to be fixed with the new DaYZ

Ive had tents that will never save as well. But then my mate put one down right by mine and his worked fine. I think that one is luck of the draw. Try putting down a bunch of tents put some crap in them until you find one that will save. Then you have infinite gear just like everyone else.

Duping seems to be fixed with the new DaYZ

Duping isnt fixed. Since new patch Ive def seen gear duplicate, also seen "tentception" where you put up one tent and after a reset there is more than one there. Also tents still dont disappear after a day or tow after you die like they should do.
  22. Strategos (DayZ)

We want a Bandit Bandana instead of towel

I was planning on disagreeing, but ive changed my mind that would be better.
  23. @Sad Panda Well its not just about being on your own but that is part of it. "When I first started this mod, I already had real friends to play it with, and I can say without a doubt that it didn't diminish the experience one bit. " Actually you can't because you didn't try it without friends on TS. As soon as I started getting on TS with my mates it changed the game completely. When new guys join us I can tell they are experiencing nothing like what I did. Probably easier just to read what I posted on this subject before , save my fingers anyway. http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/10709-dayz-as-an-antigame-wall-of-text-warning/
  24. "No offense intended, but who is one person to decide what "The DayZ experience" is? It's a sandbox, not a linear scripted game. The experience is what you make of it. Why on Earth is the only "acceptable" experience to be a lone wolf stranded out in the middle of nowhere." I think the point is that Dayz can offer an amazing experience, as a sandbox survival game. But people being people always take the line of least resistance. If you immerse yourself in the game and play it "as intended*" its incredible. The more you undermine that the more it becomes something else. It's still fun but in a different way, and certainly in a less stressful way. The first week or two I played Dayz were frustrating, but they were scary! The uncertaintity , the fear and the confusion made for an incredible experience. The first time I encountered another survivor, incredible. The first time I killed a guy I was riddled with guilt. Feelings no other game has ever managed to create. One day i got lost for two hours and gradually worked out my orienteering skills and found my destination, it was amazingly rewarding. The first time I stumbled across a vehicle - a real highlight. It goes on and on. But new players have guides, out of game maps, loot maps, vehicle spawn maps. They loose so much by not diving in at the deep end and experiencing all of that. * As Intended. Well who can say what is intended ? Well Rocket for one. If you read what he says about the game you will see its not supposed to be easy! And if you look at the mechanics he has introduced... you start to get an idea of what is "intended". For instance direct chat. I've written whole threads on just this subject , the jist of which of which is , if you play just using direct chat a world of amazing game-play experiences occur. Things I've never experienced in ANY other game. But why would you use it ? TS allows you to talk to your mates anywhere and using direct chat only puts you at a huge tactical disadvantage. But obviously Rocket intends people to use direct chat otherwise why bother restricting in game communication in this way.
  25. 100% right, I've been trying to put this point of view across for ages. Please have some beans really nice to see an intelligent analysis of the situation. As pointed out the current bugs compound the problems tenfold. Tents being immortal item factories primarily. But there is also an inherent contradiction in the mechanics of Dayz, it tears the players in two different directions by enforcing "perma death" but providing mechanics and goals that span more than one life - obviously tents and vehicles, the idea of base building etc. ACow, maybe you could have a gander at one of my old threads: http://dayzmod.com/f...f-text-warning/ this one is relevant as well http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/13119-the-dayz-dichotomy/
