    I did add some electricity stuff previously and linked to that very same thread. Though I myself prefer something a little less dramatic that a whole grid. i think its a bit unrealistic to get a whole power station up and running. Im not sure about the whole safe zone thing either,but then this forum is for discussion, I never expected everyone to agree with me :) Anything that makes the game easier bothers me, and lets face it people CAN already fortify and area and stop Z's. If you choose a building get inside and block the doors with sandbags and wire, you are in a place with no Z`s. Hopefully soon they wont come through walls making it much more viable to hold a building.

    I wish people would stop suggesting insanity - o - meters . I don't want to be told when my character is scared or going insane. I also don't want any more shaky screen, blurry vision or hallucinations. I also don't need arbitrary rules that force me to talk to people to lower some numbers on my HUD.

    lol your being deliberately obtuse i'm sure. The point is that a loud gunshot is a more dramatic stimulus. Whether it invokes a fight or flight response is irrelevant. Its hard to talk realism when the Z's don't see very well, it seems like the virus inhibits their sight but leaves their hearing intact. In the end these are arbitrary decisions and I think in many ways we are o the same page. a: Make zombies go for bleeding characters more. b: Make zombies less single minded so you can lose them. Id like to see them go to sources of sounds and smells rather than individual people ... forever. The only thing I don't like is you idea that if a Z was stood between two players it would go for the smell over the sound.

    Yeah if you are miles away they don't hear the gunshot anyway, that's fine. If you are out of earshot , of course they should go for the blood. "Yes, because if I smell a steak cooking or hear popcorn popping, I'm going to run after the popcorn. WHAT? You had me, and then you lost me. The zeds are looking to feed, and currently they are seeking out loud noises, which makes ZERO sense. Noise should NOT equal food, at least not primarily." That analogy is terrible. Seriously even if your point was valid your killing it there lol. Popcorn is not as loud as a gun, and popcorn smells pretty damn good id go for the smell of that over steak myself ;p The human olfactory system is no where near as sensitive as our hearing so it seems pretty realistic that the Zs would be more attracted to sound to me. Even in wild animals with incredible noses you'd see more reaction to a gunshot than a smell. Its obviously a more dramatic stimulus. "It's like an undead umbilical cord you can't cut. In my solution, there should at least be a chance that some of them peel off and attack someone else, if you run up and shoot them" this is a problem that comes from the zombie mechanics themselves, the Z's are clearly too tenacious and single minded and they should be possible to distract. Personally I think that Z's should go to the sources of sound , once they get closer the sense of smell / sight takes over (unless you keep making sounds). So you COULD shoot someone in the legs, the sound would attract the zombies to that point, then as they got closer you could creep off and the blood would be the thing they went for. Or if you were being chased around a corner the z.s would chase you to where they last saw you, then use their sense of smell / sound sight to try and relocate you. If you are bleeding they could follow that trail but if u run past a bleeding guy they would stop and eat them instead.

    "Saying it encourages more murder, while it may be true, is not a justifiable answer." Lol its a totally valid point, you even agree apparently. Plus the zombies hunt primarily by sound and a gunshot is by far the most obvious of the two stimuli. How do i know they hunt primarily by sound? Because of their response to sound and their response to smell. If you stay totally still you can see how close they have to get before they smell you. I think zombies should be more attracted to bleeding and coughing players. If a shot player crawled off bleeding they would be at risk of drawing attention. Going for a smell over a sound as loud as a gunshot is hardly "realistic". I also agree zombies should be more dangerous we just need to find good ways of doing it.

    I don't like this idea i'm afraid. I kind of like the idea of the Z's being attracted to stuff. But I think the gunshot should always override the blood in this scenario. Why ? Because right now one of the VERY few things that prevents another player from killing a survivor they encounter is the risk of drawing agro from the Z's. If the Z's go for the person you've shot it will encourage even more murder in the game.

    Well I did point out I was unsure, and that it was more of a debate. Dayz is pushing a variety of gaming preconceptions and is doing pretty well so far. I wonder if the standard mode everyone has of team up with all your buddies is the best thing for this mod. The scene is post apocalypse , everyone you know is dead, your a lone survivor thrown into a world of pain and death. But you have a whole team of buddies! You can talk to and get rescued by anytime you want! The two things don't really fit do they. Obviously I expect alot of peoples initial reactions to be as quick fire and one dimensional as Woofed there but im sure some of you have brains and can talk about it :) Remember if you told people in some other game , hey when you die your going to lose everything and have to start again you'd get the same reaction. But people tried Dayz and found that it works, and works really well! It's really hard to predict the outcome of design decisions in this environment, look at the bandit skin debacle.

    I think the point of Dayz is that its bastard hard. Those first days of being scared and confused are the best bit. Having a tutorial server would mitigate this.

    Seems like a load of stuff was lost to the forum hack, adjusted list and added , removing helicopter vehicle radar. Cant find the thread about it though assume its gone into cyberspace.

    The problem is on hardcore servers you don't know who killed you or who you killed. You can check who is on the server with you but you will never know who actually did the deed. Don't get me wrong I like the concept.

    I find that if you look ... near your gun you player slows to a walk, i think the game thinks you are aiming ?
  20. Stuck in Wilderness 30 min run SE didn't help, Reset would be much appreciated. Name: Strategos ID : 12797126 Thanks in advance Edit: ran for 45 minutes before session lost still stuck. Edit Walked out, nearly died, close call. Reset no longer required.

    Nonlethal weapons (tranq gun)

    Ive had a think about this one and I like it. At the moment your choices are kill someone or trust them and hope they dont betray you. I like the option of being able to disable, possibly rob if u want and not kill. The problem is balancing. So here's my thoughts, slight variation on OP. 1st make tranquilliser gun a rifle so it uses ur main gun slot. Its slow to reload like a crossbow. Second. Make the first dart just make you groggy. You get hit and have a little bit to run and hide or return fire , then you slow down and your screen blurs. Second dart cumulates the effect. You are now on a countdown to passing out. U have time to walk a little way and hide but ur vision will be blurring/ shaking and ur getting slower. So u must hit a player twice with a slow loading weapon to knock them out and its not instant either way. Teargas and stun grenades also sound fun. I also like beanbag / rubber bullets but think they should do a small amount of health damage and just knock the person over. Unless you head shot them then u get some additional blurring / shakiness on their vision for a bit.

    Why thanks LeYuno. I'm mulling over cannibalism at the moment. I'm undecided on it but have a feeling that it fits with the whole DayZ Idium. Might go and read the thread again... Edit , Rocket vetoed cannibalism because the Australians cant handle it. Or something lol
  24. No worries on the link, not that your not doing fine on your own lol. I was thinking more that some buildings have backup generators. Or some areas. And these are the things that need repairing. They aren't portable generators. The bigger ones could be a big job and light larger areas.
  25. I just thought I'd post and say that I think this is probably the best game I've ever played. Ok it's buggy , clunky and almost impenetrably hard to new players. But it is more compelling and evokes more emotional responses than any other game I've ever played. The stories that I have experiences and heard told by other players are second to none. In no other game can I apply real world solutions to problems and be rewarded. In no other game does every decision seem so important. No other game makes mundane tasks so rewarding and fun. It's bloody brilliant.
