Magazine in weapon takes up pack slot?
Strategos (DayZ) replied to punisher_1's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I think it would be nice if the clip did actually go in your gun. I don't see why the server couldn't log the number of bullets. Just a few more integers in an already massive DB. -
I agree 100% on no gun and no backpack at start. But the other gear ... i think you need it as its pretty harsh if you get one of those bugs or lucky zombies strikes that breaks your legs. Also a refillable water bottle is fine, lets be honest in RL you'd just drink from the lake or the water pump.

A new 'status' to encourage cooperation

"I think this would fit into some kind of subtle skill system like being "hardened" or whatever. " I hate skill systems as well :p "I am just saying that even people that claim to be lone-wolves in real life still have human contact. You and I are communicating right now." As i said in another thread about this subject, people endure all kinds of traumas. Some crack, some don't, some people thrive in situations that would crack other peoples minds. Human beings are incredibly tough when it comes to the crunch. You cant turn this stuff into a simple set of rules. Just looking at the different kinds of players in the game and the variety of their reactions to the game world should be proof enough that you cant slap some single psychological rule onto us all. In a game like Amnesia which is a narrative where you are playing a specific character such a mechanic is acceptable but not in a game like this, in my opinion of course. -

"The game already tells you that your character is panicking after certain encounters. Do you think that should be removed as well?" Yes, I haven't heard it for a while actually , I thought it had gone. " I think it would be a stretch to say that people would react well to being thrown into a situation like the one presented in Dayz." Its also a stretch to say everyone will react the same way. The thing I like about Dayz is the reactions it engenders in people, it can be incredibly stressful and nerve wracking. I've found my hands literally shaking after a couple of encounters and thats pretty incredible for a game. We have a group. Some of us are gung ho , the wade in and are always setting off zombies. Other guys are cautious and careful. And we have a couple of players who shit themselves all the time , hide in bushes and hardly do anything at all lol. People react in to the emotions the game causes, the fear and anxiety. you don't need to stick an artificial layer on this. And people are naturally social in the game, many payers get bored or lonely and seek out others. Others are naturally loners. I think its much better to let people do what they want within the games mechanics and influenced by the motivations the game provides without arbitrary rules in that govern peoples actions. Every-time you add a new rule you remove a little freedom and emergence. -

"How about hallucinations? You start seeing weird stuff in the forest, especially by dusk/night. a lone child standing by a tree, silently watching you. people whispering in the shadows. Cured by pills (which could have side effects, like drowsiness if taken for long periods) or hanging around other people." Please god no. I get scared by stuff in Dayz all the time, sounds, my own shadow , a flipping bush. i don't need the game telling me when i'm scared. -
Extension to one of Rocket's idea: Gear damage by gunfire
Strategos (DayZ) replied to psycho84's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Yeah i do seem to remember seeing a different effect when I shot a backpack that's what made me think they had different collision boxes or collision materials. -

I really hate these ideas that tell me my own mental state. I find being around people more depressing than being on my own most of the time. I don't see why I should be told that my character cant stand being on his own. Especially if it ends up in ANOTHER screen blurring effect. Everyone feels cold, everyone bleeds when they get shot, everyone needs to eat and drink but only Some people are weak mentally, I don't think you should add mental illness to everyone it just doesn't work like that. -
I like this, especially now you can evade the zombies.

Extension to one of Rocket's idea: Gear damage by gunfire
Strategos (DayZ) replied to psycho84's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I like this idea. I think some atrophy in the loot system is a good thing, right now once a set of NVG is in the game its in there for good if the player is murdered someone takes it. I like the idea that good loot can be removed again from the system. Explosions as well should really mess up your goods. Also what if shooting someone in the backpack didn't hurt them but destroyed a higher percentage of their goods (i see that was suggested above gets my vote then) . Also perhaps the possibility of shooting a gun out of someones hand? I think the more ways there are to disarm and engage people in a non lethal fashion the better. -
Re: Spawning without a Weapon - Reality Check
Strategos (DayZ) replied to WilkyWilks's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
People will always just grief in a game like this. Its a hollow worthless thing they do but they do it anyway. We all got killed by a hacker teleporting around the map. He doesn't need loot, he hacking he can spawn whatever he wants so hes just doing it to fuck people off. A guy on the shore line with a Makarov is just s vulnerable to a guy with a sniper rifle in the woods as a guy without one. Also getting spawn killed really doesn't matter, you just re spawn somewhere else, and have only lost a few minutes. But having no gun may improve the interactions between new players. Maybe they will be more inclined to team up and cover each other ? Who knows. I say starting loot should stay the same minus the gun and the backpack. (At least then those chest pouches will be useful). While we are at it, reduce high end gun spawns and reduce ammo in general. (Remember u can escape zombies now so you dot HAVE to have a gun to survive.) -
Oh come on guys seriously. Look! http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=4090

That's a possibility as well Kyle. It's very hard to forsee the outcome of these decisions. Look at removing bandit skins! I was thinking a couple of days maybe for a "vacation". It would slowly split up groups of people I think. Imagine you start with your mates, your trying to hook up. One guy is gone to a random death. He waits for a day or two on another server but another dies and joins him. Group is now split over two servers. Now original guy dies and is now on a third server. Pretty soon they are split and unless no one play on the orignal server and dies for a day or two they cant all get back together. I know that if I die and my mates are near by I go for my gear everytime. but if something happens and I cant get it I carry on playing solo until im up and running again. And I really enjoy that bit the most I think. Once you get over the frustration of not being able to stick together and get your loot back when you die the game is actually more enjoyable. You just have to let go.
