Remove gunshot-like movement noises, and suggestive ambient sounds.
Yatagan posted a topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
One huge issue that I've been experiencing is gunshot-like movement sounds. The two that really stand out are running across/along a gravel path, and crawling through the short, really crunchy grass. When doing these two things, with each 'step' (or movement) the game makes a sound that sounds IDENTICAL to a 1911 being fired in the distance. SO many times I've heard this and stopped, only to hear it again when I start moving and pause again. I eventaully always figure out it's the movement sound. I think these sounds needs to be altered, because the little noise they make is literally identical to a distant gunshot, and it's really alarming and annoying. The second sound set that needs changing are some of the suggestive ambient sounds. The most glaring example of this is the ambient noise of a gate opening. I don't want to hear that unless a nearby gate is actually opening. It once again causes uneeded alarm and wastes time while I investigate. A more minor example is the churchbells. Those should have to be manually rung, as their sound should be a tell that someone is in the church. In addition there are other various minor sounds such as distant booms. Every once in a while I hear 'boom-boom-boom', and it sounds like 3 quick very distant (very powerful, like a sniper) gunshots. But I've heard it consistantly enough to determine that it is indeed an ambient sound. Hopefully Rocket can adress these things, or perhaps they will be changed when the game goes standalone regardless. -
Slenderman in DayZ: add a scare-the-sh**-out-of-you experience to the game
Yatagan replied to gcb38's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
How about we just throw in Cthulu and Alduin while we're at it? Plus, this game doesn't need to be scarier. I already shit my pants when I empty 7 rounds of 1911 into a zombie and it doesn't die. -
Disconnecting fix/Ghosting fix? "ALT+F4".

Again this raises the question of wtf happens if I lose internet or the server crashes? And why the hell would everyone carry a cot with them at all times? Nice idea, wouldn't really work. -
:facepalm:Again that completely destroys the entire point of being a sniper. The enemy should be shitting their pants and diving for cover, not hiding and working their way to me. And how do you know that my friend is only in the store for 60 seconds? Shit happens it may take far longer. You don't know what he's going to grab. Plus, since there are very few places where you can be at true sniper distance (800m+) I would most likely be like 300m away, meaning 3 guys with assault rifles would kick my ass if they knew right where I was. So if the 10 things you assume are happening go exactly that way, then it wont be terrible. But in any other situation it would be. Seriously, think. Just think, it's not that hard.

Indeed.

Honestly I think the disconnect issue is bad enough that if you disconnect in any manner while in bleedout/shock (Whatever the 'passed out' thing is called) it should just kill you. So if I shoot a guy and he falls down and passes out then disconnects, he dies and his body is still there for me to loot. Then when he logs back in he just choses his gender and starts over. It would punish those who have something unfortunate happen while they are passed out like losing internet, or the server crashes. But lets be honest, how much of this game do we spend passed out? Practically none. I think the positive side FAR outweighs the negative side.

Remove gunshot-like movement noises, and suggestive ambient sounds.

Then the gate noise needs to at least fit. It plays the SAME noise if you open the gate. So when I hear the ambient, it sounds like someone opening a gate. If it played a slower more creaky noise that would be fine. It would still add to the mood, but not sound like a ghost is standing there opening and closing a gate.I would agree with the churchbells except that they can only be heard if you're already close enough to see the town. And what timer? I originally thought it would be synched with the hours ingame, as a real church might be, but it's sparatic and broken. And the booms are NOT gunshots. They are three low pounds three in a row very consistantly. Whenever I hear it it's the exact same, and I hear it in empty servers with only me and my pals on them. It's not gunshots, but it sure as hell sounds like it. -
How about you sit down for 5 seconds and think about this before blatantly posting stupid shit like that. Allow me to set up a perfect example of why this would be horrible. I'm playing with my friend. He has an AK and is in a grocery store. I have a sniper and am sitting up in the bushes covering him from afar. We are not bandits, I'm simply there for if shit goes down. Some asshole and his 3 mates show up. They see my friend in the grocery store and start firing. I shoot one of them, purely in the defense of my friend. He gets a killcam and knows exactly where I am and can tell his friends. Now instead of me being a horrifying menace from the distance (As snipers are meant to be) I'm incredibly vulnerable and they can effortlessly kill me and my friend. Killcams are NOT the solution to hackers and random one-shots.

That's because starting with a gun is a horrible idea. However starting with a weak melee weapon would be perfect. This should of course be offset by also not starting with painkillers or a backpack.I think starting with a crowbar or some other kind of very weak weapon (baseball bat?) that's still SOMETHING to use on zombies is a must. There's making the game challenging, and then there's pointlessly designing it poorly.

Broken Bones has to go or fix your coding

I just broke my leg and passed out by walking down a staircase in a barn. Thank god I had some morphine and bandages because I had just hit a firestation and found some awesome guns and ammo. I think as soon as this game is standalone this needs to be one of the first things they improve. It can strike at any moment, and it can completely screw you over. Out of all the times I've broken legs in this game, at least 90% have been from bugs and not legitimate reasons. (Gunshot wounds, zombies, etc) -
While I agree that randomly getting one shot after playing for a while is no fun, this would be even worse.

How Rocket can make everybody happy in 2 easy steps
Yatagan replied to zython (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
No, no, no, no. I've got the two easy fix steps: 1. Delete DayzMod from the internet and everyones computers. 2. Delete forums. -
This still wouldn't be ideal. If some guy is pointing a gun at me and telling me to drop my stuff or he shoots me, I'm not going to wait for him to shoot and pray he missed so I can return fire, I (or a friend) is gonna goddamn shoot him in the face. I think the solution is simple. Killing anyone no matter what lowers your humanity. Killing zombies and helping others raises it. So if you avoid killing people and plow through 200 zombies you'd have high humanity even if you kill a few people throughout that in self defense. However if you plow through 20 people in a city, you're humanity plummets.

How about leaving deerstands, ths providing a static place for possible loot (And a place of potential conflict amongs scavenging players, much like towns), and add the random paratroops in addition to that?
-
I actually think this is needed. So few servers have 3rd person off (like 5-10%?) and I prefer 1st person, meaning I'm at a huge disadvantage. Not to mention that since this game is going for a semi-realist experimental perspective, I think it would really help in that area. And since you can turn down the camera shake in options, that can't be used as an excuse. :)

I understand what this is trying to do, but it's horribly implemented. Every single time me and my friend go to play Dayz after taking a break (sleep, eat, real life, etc) it almost always takes us a few tries to get into a server. By that time the game has decided we are server hopping and we are both in random spots on the coast. It's happened every single time we've tried to play since the latest update. May I suggest that it doesn't count you as 'in' the server until you've played for at least 10 seconds? That way if you never even load in, or very quickly abort it doesn't freaking move you to a random spawn again? Until it's better implemented this HAS to go. It's absolutely killing the fun.
-
No, it's in Alpha. It needs testing and tweaking.
-
I'll try that. Thanks. :) Luckily I'm not 8 years old like 97% of this forum.

Rocket has said he isn't going to change much with Zombies until the game goes standalone. The AI in Arma 2 just wont handle them well. Once he has full control over the AI and the engine he can add all sorts of zombie types along with fixing their pathing and all the other issues.

Die a zombie, become a zombie, for 1 more death.

It sounds cool but I'm not sure that it fits in this game... -
(Rocket) Why are we logging in on the coast
Yatagan replied to Siggy (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Server hopping? You mean trying to join a server and having them all fail or freeze in the load screen? Me and my friend were trying to play again and when we finally got into a server and loaded in we're on the fucking coast. If it doesn't even make sure you actually make it in before tallying you as a server hopper then that's just fucking retarded. -
Remove livestock/animals/raw meat from the game
Yatagan replied to porkyham's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Stop a lot of camping?I don't see people camping cows and sheep... Grocery stores and towns on the other hand people already camp lots, this would only make it worse. Having a method to obtain food and water outside of items in cities is a must... -
I say 100ms. I don't want people over 100ms playing with me whether they are legit or not. I usually join servers with 40-80 ping. Anything higher is rediculous. Zombies lag and are unkillable, etc. I'd say no lower than 100, so legit servers can still set it pretty low to keep out laggy people.

Innovate gameplay for standalone version ( minecraft ideal )
Yatagan replied to gama's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Rocket has already stated a LOT that he plans on adding bunkers and underground tunnels. Meaning he does intend on adding some kind of player built structures to the game for sure. -
Am Arma 2 map without zombies? I think you're looking for Arma 2. :)
