    day z needs more vehicles!

    I believe more cars add to the atmosphere, but 1400 is a little silly. My server has around 400 vehicles. 105 of them are bicycles. The vast majority of the rest are sedans, vans, pick-ups, motorcycles, and atvs. The remaining 40 are divided up amongst Ural-type trucks, some Humvees with mounted weapons, UAZs with mounted weapons, and Pickups with mounted weapons. And then only three helicopters. The vast majority of my players love the amount of vehicles, as it ends up being 3-4 per small town, with the larger towns holding the vast majority of the vehicles. How I handle clans and hoarding on my server is every Monday vehicles get reset back to their original spawns. This excludes both the Ural type trucks and tents. Players get to keep their "base" of operations, but have to continually spend that time on transportation that simulates both wear and tear and the unpredictability of living in a persistant world. This also pushes those cushy clans to go out and do something other than PvP bambis. And this ensures that new spawns and players have a chance to drive around in something. This is, of course, my opinion, having ran my server for the past four months.
  3. Just a note, using the official scripts.txt file from the site gives you all of these script restriction kicks. Using their file DOES NOT FIX. After putting together the sethit fix into the scripts, now players are just getting kicked for #21. I bet if I manage to get that fixed, #38 is next.
  4. ^^^^ FREAKING THIS!!!! My players ask me all the time when I play, and my answer is always "I don't have time." Got the spectate mode running and it's fan-*******-tastic. Banned a guy today who teleported his chopper with him in it. Didn't show in the logs, would never have known without spectate. Banned another guy who logged in, I check people I don't recognize, watched him put on a ghilie not three feet off the beach, then an AS50 TWS appears in his hands. I checked the database, and it wasn't showing! Decided to have a little fun with this guy. Told him "HEY LOOK OUT BEHIND YOU!" He turned around frantically looking. I yelled "LOOK OUT THERE'S A HACKER! OH WAIT, IT'S YOU!" and banned his sorry ass. Anyone that thinks admins are "cheating" or "too powerful" has never tried adminning one of these godforsaken servers. Sure, there are bad apples and people are going to abuse it. Don't play there. Simple as that. Or go play on a hive with no active admins. Idiots.
  5. Pwnozor is not using Bliss, it's an updated Anti-Rocket build. +1 for Pwnozor, been running it for a month after running Anti Rocket for months.

  7. Yeah, cause gaming the system to put three gunners on a single gun isn't cheating. Surely that doesn't mean they hacked that chopper in..... I think YOU missed the point of Dayz, and let me point it out to you, it's not about cheating. In case you didn't know. Or are stupid. Whichever.

    Which T-Shirt design would you buy?

    Number 2, then 1. Option 3 is stylized, but it's rather unreadable, and not in the Day Z font, so not easily recognized by other Day Z players.
  11. Looking for some answers to some questions our clan has about the terms you're using so we're on the same page. 1. What does "Managed Server" actually entail? 2. What would the main difference between Managed Server option with 50 slots and your Unmanaged VPS option. 3. On your thread here, you have: E3-1230 (8x 3.6GHz) 3GB Dedicated RAM 100GB Hard Drive Space 100Mbps Connection Unmetered Bandwidth Windows Server 2008 Standard But on your website at www.dayzhosting.com the same option lists: Unmanaged VPS 3GB Dedicated RAM 4 x 3.6GHz CPU 100GB HDD Space 1Gbps with 10TB Bandwidth Windows Server 2008 Std The main difference being CPU and the Connection. Would like to know which is correct. 4. Really which of the two offers the best choice for a fairly active small clan with a very computer savvy playerbase and ability for that clan to be active admins for round the clock availability? Thanks. EDIT: Host Altitude Support got back to me super fast through email. Their reply. 1) Managed server means we update and "maintain" the server for you. 2) You get much more control with the VPS option. We give you remote desktop access to a windows VPS server and you can install what you want on it. We will install DayZ for you and that's about it. 3) If you have a tech savvy group then the VPS option is probably best. The specs listed on our website are more accurate, the CPU is technically the same but we have not justified it correctly. (The CPU has 4 cores but with hyper threading it technically has 8 cores). ----------- Jonathan L. Support Team Thx for the quick response.
  12. I'm fairly certain there isn't any option to do this, but can admins in any way tail people ingame looking for proof of hacking? Like some sort of observation mode? If there isn't, the only way to identify hackers and cheaters is with server logs or physically being at the spot where the hacking/cheating occurs? I ask mostly because I'm considering running a server, and am wondering what tools server admins have to protect their servers. I see the console commands, but is that really it?

    Sounds like you haven't been paying attention. Alpha is to add features. Beta is to fix bugs. We're in Alpha. Got it ? Sounds like someone needs to go write some more fanfiction.     Admin Observe Mode?

    Thanks for the reply, it's hard to really find anything related to this. Maybe there should be a thread posting known hacks on the logs. I saw a server admin forum only being asked for, that sounds like it would be a great place to post such a repository.

    Bad luck, wipes and hackers in DayZ

    I feel your pain. Last night, a few members of my group were fixing up a UAZ, had it down to needing one wheel. Was running back to our base of operations when one member was shot, instantly killed. I dodged for cover, being in survivor skin, and my friend, in a ghilie suit, parked behind a tree. We had a great line of sight around, saw nothing. All of a sudden I take one straight to the head. My friend runs off to the east for a few minutes, literally getting miles away. Stops behind a tree and is instantly shot. No one ever saw anything. We're assuming it was an inivisible player. We headed back, the UAZ is gone, hours wasted. The UAZ was nowhere near a town, so there's very little chance someone either happened to have a tire, or they went and got one before we made it back. Unforuanately, this is an alpha and there doesn't appear to be any tools at an admin's disposal to right any wrongs, or really to even verify that you died to someone cheating. I would hope that fixing that and giving server admins the tools they need would be somewhere on the list, before "dog companions".

    The problem was people talking in voice chat, really, not the chat itself. At first, I was happy to see it go. Now I see new players plainly lost and needing help in blue chat and I feel bad for them, as no one can help their learning curve. Get rid of voice chat in everything except direct and I think it would be fine. Text can be ignored, voices in your head cannot.

    You're seriously asking? No, it's not allowed, why would you think that if it needs to be "fixed"? Sounds like the people on that server just need to go play Arma2, because they apparently aren't playing for any of the reasons the rest of us are.
  20. As I was ingame after reading the patch notes, I had two things of feedback on the five minute timer. 1. Sometimes you're killing a zombie horde for more than five minutes, meaning the bodies are going to be gone before you can loot them. 2. You won't be able to track players or know they are in the area by seeing dead zombies except in the five minutes after they kill them. I think that takes a bit of suspense out of the game, because deciding wether to steer clear of a dead zombie trail or to follow it are two key things that heighten the sense of fear and adrenaline, for me, at least. Thanks.
  21. That sounds like a plan. I understand the optimization completely. I'm glad that aspect of the sheer terror won't be overlooked. :) And a friend of mine suggested some sort of ability to delete bodies that you hide, which I'm sure you've thought of. Hiding bodies on second stories and having them sink through the floors doesn't help much.

    I'm okay with zombies that can see more, but one shotting people is ridiculous. Now it's just an exercise in futility. Zombies see through and attack through walls. And there's TOO GODDAM MANY! A small house by itself in the woods spawns 20+ zombies! Who is going to waste ammo to go check it, espicially when they respawn so fast? Get your re-spawn times right! Continuous adrenaline and fear eventually gives weigh to frustration, and frustrated players don't keep playing games.
  23. Disclaimer: THIS IS FEEDBACK! THIS IS AN ALPHA! Patch notes said that respawn rates for zombies have been dropped. I just had a ten minute fight at a barn where I know I pulled half the town. That's fine. I headed out to try to loot said town, but the zombies were already thickly spawned. Rocket, please adjust the rate so we can clear the town for at least 10 minutes or so. Give us some return on expenditure of ammo. Right now I'm killing entire towns if I want to loot one building.
  24. FEEDBACK DISCLAIMER It's not that I hate the temp idea, I like it. But right now it needs to be seriously tweaked. It's raining and I went outside briefly, lost three degrees. Gained one back in five minutes inside. I have no matches even though they are supposed to be more plentiful. Ran to the next town at full sprint. Almost below 80. I've sat in a barn for five more minutes, no raising of temp. I need to be able to at least offset not having a fire for spending long amounts of time inside to dry off and get out of the wind. I wouldn't mind staying inside if I at least was going to eventually regain my temp. And by eventually, at this rate, looks like hours for ten minutes spent in the rain.

    Feedback: 1.5.8 Zombie Spawn

    FEEDBACK DISCLAIMER I concur, zombie count was fine, but the whole town respawning before I have a chance to get out of the building is far far too much. You then possibly have the problem I've had before of the never-ending wave of respawning zombies hearing the shots of you taking care of the ones at the door. I am also having trouble with zombies spotting me in the two story barns, for some reason. I'm walking in crouch, and some random zombie who doesn't have LoS on me at all alerts and I have to either log, or deal with the whole town even though I was being careful. Something isn't right.
