  1. Heya, looks like I'm finally going to have some free time to play some DayZ! I've downloaded the Origins mod just on the lookout for a well maintained server with a healthy community. Any suggestions? :)
  2. I'm excited at the prospect of sneaking up on someone while playing the somber tune of Parabola by Tool over my radio. Chilling...
  3. People sometimes get swept up in the suspense and attempt to avoid it, only to realize later down the road that they ruined the game for themselves because DayZ is about that suspense and fear. When people start meta-gaming a survival game it becomes so redundant it makes the game seem silly. I feel bad for those players, I don't really get to play much any more but I enjoyed every second of my game play. I didn't sweat hoarding, or gamma correction, I worried about night because I knew it was coming and didn't try to avoid by leaving the server but by hiding at night. I played the game for that fear, I feel bad for all those that do not enjoy it, it's like editing out all the scary parts of a horror movie...what's the point?
  4. The beauty of Arma III and how much I am enjoying the new movement and weight of it has somewhat dulled my suspense for the DayZ standalone, but I am still pretty excited.

    Low FPS in Dayz

You may need to adjust your settings, many guides for that can be found around google. Or you may just need to upgrade your PC. You would also try different servers, some run better than others ;) Best of luck my friend.
  6. They should definitely absolutely positively keep the iconic cities in the game, however those pesky sniper hills could use some love in the form of blocking buildings or something maybe? Trying to compromise as that is the source of most bambi griefing.
  7. They have the buff of having no moral compass, it's a really good buff in a post apocalyptic world.

    If Rocket messaged you tomorrow...

I would ask ask him for a new color palette similar or the same as that in Arma III, I have fallen in love with the beauty of arma 3 and that has a lot to do with it. But ultimately beyond that I don't know if I would beg for anything as I trust in Rocket.
  9. Someone will probably do something very similar in time. Rocket is busy with the standalone though. However if you are interested in something kind of similar minus the zombies look for wasteland games on arma III multiplayer, they can be fun with friends or if you run into a good group of guys.

Anyone else miss when you were a noob?

Oh I sooo much miss those days of logging onto DayZ and being scared out of my wits and me and dutch attempt to find each other. One of us with a map, the other with a terrible sense of direction and a pistol, those were the dayZ!
  11. Well I've seen a lot of threads lately about Bandits telling there dastardly and then survivors telling them they are despicable, then in return getting flak because it's "only a game". Both sides are right actually, but there is a line which crosses banditry and goes right into just being a dick. At first I was going to post this in the bandit forum. But having not posted there yet, and suspecting that it would be largely ignored and I figure bandits who want a hero's/survivors advice and or comments would come here anyway, and they'd be the ones most likely to listen to my point of view. Anyway, I think I speak for a good majority of us hero's/survivors when I say we don't hate all bandits. Most of us understand that banditry is a necessary part of the game that adds a great level of suspense, which the game just wouldn't be the same without. The problem is the way some go about banditry is what so many of us have a problem with. When you choose to make a friend on teamspeak, essentially befriend them outside of the game all together even going as far as to play with them for multiple days. Then you come on here and tell us how you pretty much took advantage of an out-of-game friendship to just piss them off or for some virtual items, well, that can rub people the wrong way and rightly so. You have effectively crossed the line, you took what should be a persona you are playing in a game (assuming you're not an asshole in real life) and put it into a real world to betray someone who could have genuinely considered you a friend for the effort that you both put in. Then there are the griefers. Banditry makes sense in a game like this because it is about survival. You do what you have to, to survive. That means you prey on others to survive, you are the predator, the monster under the bed of every survivor in game. And myself and most others thank you for this, you playing this way gives us something to fear in this game once we have mastered escaping the dreaded Jamie Hyneman zombies, and you're role within the game makes sense, you're choosing to survive the way you want to and no one can tell you different. However... There are many bandits out there who don't kill for gear, or the thrill, or competition. These guys shoot new spawns on the beach and outside of Cherno/Electro when it gives them nothing in return. Not a thing but the satisfaction of ruining someone else's gaming experience. This is again where it crosses that line from playing a persona in game, you went from killing to get satisfaction from progression and survival in game to killing to piss the guy off behind the computer screen, and when that makes you happy or glad, to make another angry, that will rub a lot of people the wrong way. I'm sure decent bandits and survivors alike. I know I haven't spoken for everyone here, but I think that a lot of us believe this is the case. We don't hate YOU for being a bandit. We just hate it when such a majority of you take it too far. When you begin to get enjoyment out of making other people upset or ruining there experience, people have the right to say "Hey man, you're kind of a dick for doing that" because doing something for the enjoyment of upsetting them is really an a-hole move. So to all of you Bandits out there, who play the game like bandits. Thanks, much appreciated. To the other guys, well you know what you are.

    I'm Back!

After a long Hiatus, I'm back :). Well on the forums for now, I was missing the community. Also wondering how the standalone was shaping up, anyone have news? Also, how is the mod doing? I suppose everything pretty much moved on over to the private servers now. Wonder if I can find one to test my heroic skills on :P How is everyone!?

A short word regarding Dayz standalone

Probably could have just summed it up with "Guess what guys? I'ma be a prick!". Really though, I'm sure there are enough players out there like you so don't worry man, I have no doubt that the standalone will be just like the mod. Right now I'm only hoping for less hacking.
  17. Yeah, sniping in any online game, ever, is always easy as shit. I have done it in Arma, Arma II, the whole battlefield series, vietcong, jesus there is a reason snipers are hated in most games. Because in reality I'm sure sniping would be much harder then it is in game. I mean I've never been a sniper IRL but I have done more than my fair share of hunting everything from bird to deer and bear up here in Canada. I always laugh at people getting hardcore over simple sniping in a video game.
  18. I love how you posted this right after sp86 just posted a video proving the opposite lol. PS: Tool has all the beans!

    WHY!?

Same problem here. Can any mods comment on this?, it's a huge issue right now.
  20. The only difference is the effort put into it. Many many many games I have seen people (even friends) go from boredom to exploitation then on to griefing others for enjoyment then they finally land at hacking because they are bored and don't care, it is...just a game after all. People like to talk about which side is most likely to hack? bandits or survivors? neither. It's the ones who are getting bored with the game, and the griefers, the exploiters who already ruined the game and see no wrong in going one step further. This is the truth for many online game and DayZ is no exception.
  21. Maybe he expects people to punish banditry themselves instead of having the hand of god swoop down and slap them. Most people though, unfortunately can't wrap there head around that. In game player administered punishment. The ultimate goal for any pvp enabled sandbox.
  22. Funny thing about survivor killers in this game is that they will often put themselves in horrible positions to kill you. I have been playing as a hero for what feels like forever now, ever since I first seen the difference in play styles. When most bandits talk about killing people for survival and gear it's usually a huge load of crock. I have had most bandits fire at me from positions where they were cleary out maneuvered and retreat would have been a far better option for survival. I have had them chase me in and around buildings to try and kill me only for them to run right into a situation where they were at a severe disadvantage like chasing me hitting an open feel while I pick them off from behind a tree in the woods. Or run into a building with one entrance where I clearly have the drop on them. I've also killed many a sniper completely oblivious to footsteps sniping over cherno/electro. What does this lead me to believe about these type of people? Well obviously they are not out to survive, they are out to kill, most likely because they have tons of gear duped and are playing this game, when they could be playing much more competitive fun games that would probably reward there play style a lot more. I guess you could say a small portion are just gear hungry and see you with good loot and decide that loot is worth getting killed over. On the other hand most guys that do this usually have far superior gear to myself. Which just leads back to me asking "Why engage when I have the upper hand?". The only logical answer is because they have everything they need and are bored and or just don't care anymore, which is sad. There are so many different ways to play than that, when I first started getting a bit bored my reaction was to try the more difficult and rewarding things like helping people or protecting them. Some people, I guess, just see 1 way to have fun and that is there end goal, the kill count. Not exactly what I was expecting from the player base, but different strokes for different folks I guess.
  23. My lady actually plays games. Not DayZ mind you still working on that. But I have played many of mmo's with her and I believe even she will agree that for some reason women on games tend to be rather annoying. I have no idea why either. Some of them have that "Look I'm playing games, isn't that sexy?" complex. Anywho, I'm for equal rights, shooting someone who is annoying and ignoring gender is OK in my books! PS: WINNING!!!
  24. 50 bucks says you just typed that while wearing the badass shades you have in your avatar hahaha. Good on you though, Rocket. Although I may not always agree with all decisions made with this game, there is no denying that this is a game I have grown to love. Cowboy up!
