This, if the game mechanics allow it. Logging all that extra data from so many servers i cant help but think its only going to put unnecessary strain on the database, not to mention if rocket does decide to go on with the plan in his head there are bound to be problems in terms of people getting warned/banned for reasons they had no control off. And i am pretty sure if these people come to the forums to ask for help they will have the entire community telling them they are lying and should not exploit. So a timer that start ticking down for 10 or 20 seconds the moment you press alt+f4 or disconnect would be a good idea if that can be done. For those that try to kill the game by killing it in their task manager would be nice to keep those asses in the server for a minute at least.

Depending on what rockets points of view are on making a commercial product and actually making money at some point by creating a stand alone version of the game. He cannot ignore warz or any other game that is going to develop something that uses the same concept. Now warz is supposedly been in development for over a year now so i don't see how they could have used the idea from dayz to create their own. Unless they are flat out lying, but that will be known as soon as the first people start playing it since you cannot make a game within a few months although i agree that even if it had a more then a year development its still quite short. But at this stage no one knows how the game is going to turn out, so saying that dayz will always be the better of the 2 ain't a valid argument as far as i am concerned since the game has not been released hell there is not even gameplay footage. But from the feature list we do know they plan on hardcore mode that will mean perma death if you get killed so that part is covered. Now most will argue that dayz will be the more realistic of the two seeing as the engine its currently modded on. But there are still things that don't make a whole lot of sense in dayz if compared to real life situations. But in the end alot of people play games to have fun and if things become to much like real life in term of commitment then and lets be fair dayz can be hard to a large portion of people and does require you to do things you might not really like doing to get far in the game. Simply put, warz does seem to be aimed at the masses thus if you look at things from a commercial point of view changes are the more casuals will be drawn to it. And although the die hard gamers make up a large portion of the community don't underestimate the numbers of the casual and roleplaying gamers. And in terms of features, i must admit there are features in warz that are appealing to me and i will try out the game once it comes out i will then see which of the two is better.

The simple fact is when rocket decides to start working on a stand alone version of dayz he will need to pick a engine and in most cases will need to start from scratch. Even using the arma 2 or 3 engine he would still need to completely turn it into something he wants it to be. Right now he is just using arma 2 with some minor adjustments if you look at the grand scheme of things. There are simply limitations to what he can do, so once he starts working on dayz as a stand alone game he will be able to write the game as sees fit. The crytek 3 engine is something that can be customized in so many ways it probably will have everything rocket would ever need. But with that said there are so many engine's out there i think what it eventually boils down to which engine can provide him with the tools he needs and not cost him a arm and a leg because most of these engine don't come cheap. And how things turn out in looks, well thats all up to rocket since he will decide on the textures and all other parameters associated with it. Remember if you saw a game that looked to cartoony its not because of the engine its because of the developers deciding on that style. The bigger problem is going to be manpower, rocket really will need to have more people helping him because making a game from scratch is not a easy task. The coding has to be done, texture's have to made, props have to be made, animation needs to be done not to mention the making of a map and alot of other things that are simply to much for a single person to do in a decent time frame.

Seriously what happened Rocket?

The main problem is having so many people playing it at this time... People simply cannot handle having something in one patch then having it taken away again. and what rwww says is true that right now because its basically a open alpha you could expect some form of stable releases.. However its still a alpha and some company's might do it differently but a company most of the time has more funding to back them up and other assets to help them out. Rocket does not really have any of this so give the guy some slack, we all want this mod to succeed so why not play it under the impression that its not done and if you find something that ain't working report it and don't be a dick about it. Even if rocket were to extensively test every update he puts out.... There are going to be flaws in it. Especially when working alone or in small team, even the big software developers make mistakes because of oversights. To me alpha stage is about trying things out see if part of code work, if some features would make the game better or maybe even worse. This can mean that in order to learn something you have to break something first even if this is unintentional. -
Wow i really cant believe what i am seeing..... What if he really was killed by someone who hacked and came here because of the frustration.... Most of you are just saying well though luck cheaters are part of the game.... Hacks and cheats have absolutely nothing to do with bugs (exploits do however) or this being a alpha. And thinking that cheating will be resolved in the final product then your just being naive, just point me one game that has completely rid itself of cheaters. So yeah in a sense cheaters will always be around but your bashing the guy with stuff like "o yes give me your tears"... Uhm as a community that i hope hates all cheaters in general would it not make more sense to go about this differently because he seems to be mad at something that was beyond his control and i think any of us would be frustrated about it. The whole food/can thing probably was part of that frustration. Greetz Solid

Just going to pull out a example, valve that most gamers will know from Halflife but also counter strike has their own little anti cheat called VAC. Which in first case was created solely for protecting valve games. What it does is just watch for a longer period and then bans every jackass that used a cheat in the past month or so. However after this all the hacks get updated and VAC has to get updated but you would think that with so many cheaters banned you would be rid of them.... Wrong, they just buy a new copy of the game and they are back in for a month until the next ban cycle... I know you would think people would get sick of it quite quickly but some people really push on. Now the flaw here is that you basically are saying well you can cheat for a month and after that we kick you off... Oke in a game like counter strike that might be fine because if you die its annoying and alot of servers have admins on them that will simply clean house. But like i said on dayz on the other hand you can see hours of works go down the drain. So even if a admin comes along bans the guy your still left with the frustration of starting over again having lost it all against someone who cheats... However instant banning by battle eye wont work either since the moment its gets out a cheat is detected they will all stop using it and wait for it to be updated again and so on. Its been a issue for years now and it does not look like there will be ever a good solid solution for it. The bottemline is that quite a few of these cheaters are so dedicated to what they do they wont be stopped by just getting banned and will simply get a new copy of the game. Greetz Solid

Started eve in 2005 and still playing with some breaks here and there. But i think dayz will appeal to alot of eve players just because of the fact that dyeing means losing everything.. Offcourse in eve most players have more ships standing by but still if you get blown up in a ship worth a few billion its gonna hurt. (I know there are some insanely rich people on eve but i ain't one of them) . The real big difference is on dayz you can be running thru the woods just minding your own business far away from any major player invested hell hole when all of a sudden.... BOOM your dead.... That one guy with a sniper rifle you did not notice just gave you a new eye socket in your skull. In eve this does not happen that much since we have our nice "local" chat which not only serves as our smack talk output machine but as our spidey sense telling us to get out of dodge because danger is probably close. I would love to see what would happen to eve if they removed local chat but thats such a old topic by now i doubt that will ever happen. Anyway although dayz and eve are far apart in in terms of setting they have so much similar in terms of rules of engagement and the consequences,so i am not surprised alot of eve players are on dayz. It blows my mind that you guys are being this cold hearted to the guy... Granted that there is no prove of him actually being killed by hackers it does seem to become a problem at a rapid pace. Now in a game where you can spend hours in getting everything you need, only to be killed by some douchebag that can pretty much kill the entire server when he feels like it cant be a good thing. Saying that this is a alpha wont solve it either because battling cheaters will be a ongoing thing and the moment that stops this mod/game will go to the shitters. The real problem is even if you can catch 90% or 95% of these assholes there is still that small percentage that goes undetected and someone will lose his stuff in such a way he could not have prevented it. And for these people there is no other way then to start all over again. So yeah i think its safe to say alot of people wont be asses if they lose everything because they were careless or got shot by another player but losing everything to someone who is cheating the system.... Yeah i can imagine plenty of people being pissed off about that... As for the food, yeah that was a bug and has been corrected. Greetz Solid

Basically done with this game for now. Sadly, it's just a slow paced deathmatch.
Solid.nl replied to boogiemanfl's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
So many complain about dayz turning into a DM and yeah if you play alone thats what its going to be like. But i have seen people meet up together and actually form a little group. But alot of people tend to prey on the tears of others in video games and dayz shines in it. I really don't see how you would like to see rocket go about with this. The bandit skin had some points to it since people could identify those shooting everything that moves... The problem with it really was that people that were playing as a bandit could probably care less about it since they already going to assume people will shoot them. There are already many reasons to be with a group and help others but the simple truth is that alot of people don't like to play with strangers especially when these strangers can stab you in the back anytime they feel like it. One thing i do a bit agree on is the traveling time but using/making a smaller maps is not going to make the deathmatch issue go away, hell it will probably make it even worse since people will run into each other quicker. The problem i see is that is that dayz is trying to be realistic allthough some aspect are kinda off, to name one for instance would be that humans can go without food for quite some time and i am not talking about a few hours. But going after every single thing that does not accurately reflect RL would be stupid it is a game after all. However with that being said because its a game and people should be able to enjoy as that. Now dayz does call out to a large group of people that have wanted a game like this and i think its rockets idea to reach out to these people. I personally would love to see a few things that would make the game a bit less tedious in some parts but i am happy as it is now. Anyway take a break and come back in a few weeks/months and see what the game has turned into. Allthough i have a feeling it wont be getting any easier since rocket really seems to have a goal in mind and making a casual game/mod seems not to be the goal. But who knows maybe he will adjust thing here and there so its more appealing to the masses. Greetz Solid -

I cant help think that rocket played eve online aswell, seeing dayz does seem to have some things that resemble the gameplay. Now don't get me wrong both games are quite different but they are both unforgiving. Not to mention the day i got here the first thing i see are guys from goons and pandemic legion..... Anyway its up to rocket where he wants to go with the mod. As of right now the mod is free and can do with it whatever he wants. Its up to him how large the playerbase is going to be. There will always be the hardcore gamers and the casuals but i think the definition of a hardcore gamer is different for everybody but thats a discussion topic for another time. However if rocket wants to get a massive amount of players to the mod then yeah he will need to take into account the casual gamers since they do seem to be the majority allthough some might claim they are not, but the moment they get faced with a challenge they log off or come to the forums to complain about it. However ccp has proven that there is quite a big group of gamers out there that don't mind playing a game which is unforgivable. And if rocket is aiming for that group of gamers..... I think quite a few gamers will need to rethink a few things. Greetz Solid

The monopoly of private parties is upon us.
Solid.nl replied to Slyguy65's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Well this is what happens in a sandbox game without any rules of engagement. Granted there are not that many games out there hell i would not be surprised if dayz and eve online are the only one's. (someone correct me if i am wrong) Noone is stopping you to start recruiting people and start your own little clan/faction/groupie whatever you want to call it. But even then if you do this with people in a game that does not have any rules things might not go the way you want them. People can still backstab you, seen it happen on eve many times aswell. Just think that everything goes, and although when you die you lose everything. Unlike real life you are free to start over gain, now on this part is where things are different. Because of this alot of players tend to be more aggressive then they would probably be in real life. However even with that said don't you think that in a world gone to the shitters where you have to scavenge for food and water there will be people that would probably attack you for it once it starts getting scarce. So yeah there will be people that will rather shoot you then have to deal with you telling them your friendly and figuring out that your sincere or those that like to take you up on that offer and help you.... O almost forgot about the one's that say they will help you and once they run out of equipment or simply think your help is no longer required they shoot you in the back of your head. The only way this would turn out differently is to simulate death better, so think about a 24 hour lockout of the game if you get killed..... I am pretty sure for those that still play it then, they will think twice before doing things they might regret. But even then you will still have them but i am pretty sure the numbers of players would drop quite a bit aswell. Greetz Solid
