For potential CQ combat zero your rifle to 100m. Then get a very small piece of tape - like the removable waxy clear tape - about the size of a pea or smaller if poss. Then get a red permanent marker and make a nice round dot on the tape. About 1-2mm in diameter. Scope up your rifle. Put the tape on your LCD screen about 2mm from the left of the cross. Unscope You now have a new sight that's pretty accurate allowing you to drop players who come inside your comfort zone. Works in buildings well. Its a hack it's a cheat but hey ppl do much worse stuff. It saves your life. It's surviving. I prefer assault rifles and don't use the above hack for those. I have only had a 107 once and it was all I had for a while.

I think too many ppl play this game that really should not. I often stand on the beach with my m107 shouting at newbs to go back to cod or wow or l4d or wherever they came from. "Swim back to the sea!!" i shout. They never listen... usually the last thing that goes through their mind is one of my 50 cals pmsl.

I just found the UK mirror from the download link is still serving up a 1.7.1.5 torrent link. Others are all on 1.7.2.

Why does everyone have to use "OP" whenever possible. If you mean overpowered just type it in. Keyboard presses on the internet are free you know. Also original poster - type it ffs. I believe it is totally legit - so not sure about your police work there mac. My mate found one two days ago by a chopper wreck next to a m107. Seems legit to me. *** EDIT - my bad its not on the dayz wiki - and i did get confused with the fnal with same scope- my mates gun. - I am thinking its not legit now and mac and others are correct. avoid like the plague. no fun in using it anway its like having a wall hack.

In reply to original OP - I don't think it would be very easy or logical to implement your suggestion in the way you specify. 1500m seems a bit arbitrary - also its hard to code in given the pay off for the devs. I think a more solid solution as per other forms of arma mission would be that you have to 'save' your position at one of 50 or so flags dotted around the map and that these flags are no where near prime loot spots like stary, airfields etc. Then when you wanna logout you have to move to one of these spots (theres your 1500m), save it and then log back in near the same flag (around a 100m radius maybe). If you fail to save before you logout (or get disconnected) then you simply log back in at the previous flag you saved at (possible exploit problem there) or spawn at one of the beach locations but with your gear (fairer). This would partly cure pvp server hoppers and loot campers. Would be nasty for ppl getting disconnected and then logging in somewhere they didnt want to be... Even the above is not ideal and flawed admittedly. The other alternative is that you just cannot loot for more like 10 mins every time you make a connection the hive. Server hop for more daylight then it would reset and you would have to wait 10 mins again. Lose connection - wait 10 mins till looting is possible. 10 mins is not really very long. I spend more than that just scouting a location before i go in for loot. Plus maybe when you login your screen could be black for 30 seconds after apeearing on the map so that you dont log out right next to the tents at stary or the hostpitals or barracks etc. you would be paranoid about being seen and shot in those 30 seconds. //too much coffee sorry :D

I have had a bike for 2 weeks now (3rd life with it). i love it. I keep it on uk21 and you will never find it!!! You do not need to take bikes to the outer map. They are quite easily hidden elsewhere ;) Only one seat. one can travel about 5x faster than by foot as you do not need to skirt around zed or use roads you can just go hell for leather cross country.

You were outplayed. As simples as that. Before you chose to have a nice lie down and a fag someone saw you running to where you were. They hunted you down and head shot you with a high power round. Instant death screen. This is not your normal shooter... Get some overwatch and don't stop anywhere for very long without cover. You would be better running sometimes. Snipers find it hard to shoot a zigzagging runner.

Drugs are bad m'kay! I wish i still could get coca like I used to many moons ago - but I know if I did one small line and then played Dayz i would definitely end up in the cardiac arrest room at ER. LOL

ermmm, you could talk with fellow survivors/bandits? You could listen to radio beacons with automated messages (like this thread). You could have different frequencies in the final standalone version of DayZ, choosing channels or frequencies that you know your buddies are on. You could get encrypting radios to keep secret your conversations. You could have radio trackers, and scramblers to blackout radio in small areas if you had a generator. You could have a radio station broadcasting music. Have you played Fall Out 3? The possibilities are endless. I reckon batteries will make an appearance as loot one day. Not everyone is trying to kill you. Make some friends.

I think the PvP experience could be watered down by introducing a more PvP-like PvE element. Maybe if some armed hostile AI units were added there might be more of a us vs them feeling - having said that - I think PvP is here to stay for good reason. I remember evolution and domination and warfare missions in arma being a whole bunch of fun in mp mode with little PvP action or none at all but then those missions (and ctf deathmatch or other pvp missions also) didn't generate the same set of strong emotions that dayz does.

"I spawned weapons, ammo and such" Seems to be you're just of a very low humanity and you may just buy another copy of the game with your mum's credit card and then try more subtle hacks tonight that you hope won't be detected. I say guilty. Once a cheater always a cheater...

I see the game now as a proper zed apocalypse. If you read Walking Dead, or have seen Dawn of the Dead or any of these fables, generally survivors will not trust other individuals or groups of unknown non-infected persons. All normal government is gone and there seem to be no uninfected police or army personnel anywhere. There are no normal consequences for killing another human except those dictated by your own group. And boy do you need to be in a group. Right now with dayz the analogy i see is that I and many others have been playing dayz for weeks (and many like myself ArmA for years) and there are all these noobs spawning on the coast who have not even bothered to read up on mission statements and the main purpose of the mod (according to the book of Rocket Himself). I see it as a duty to confound many of these newcomers and scare the wits out of them and hopefully eventually demoralise them out of the game so its left to people that 'get it'. It would be the same in a real situation - dissuade by whatever means the competing group of survivors so that they don't present a danger or bother you. I recommend leaving the Northern folk alone - its the coast that should be farmed for noobs.
