Refer to the reply I made on your other post, but if you read this first, I highly recommend you build a pc for much cheaper instead. Do not buy an alienware.
-
I highly recommend you do not ever buy premade pc's, especially alienware's. You should look into/research how to build a gaming pc. You will definitely be able to build a pc for less than the price of that alienware than will run DayZ better. If you need help in doing so, post in the forums of pcpartpicker.com in the part list opinions section of the forums that you are looking for a gaming pc on a budget of (insert budget) to play DayZ standalone. Then, just watch some youtube videos on how to build a pc and then research more on parts and bam!

PAYING 10$ OVER PAY-PAL TO WHOEVER CAN FIX MY PROBLEM!
iSkillzorz replied to Andreas1704 (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
You could most likely just find a video on how to do it on youtube. I am not particularly familiar with overclocking since I play on a laptop (which of course has a locked cpu) so I am not able to do any effective overclocks (plan on getting a gaming pc later this year where i plan on overclocking). Anyway, there is something you have to do to enable being able to do this, which I can't remember, which is why I suggest learning from a video. After that though, it is simple. 1. In the nvidia control panel, just click on performance -> device settings. 2. Slightly slide up the three clock speeds (maybe up by 10 each). Since this is not for the sake of extra performance, don't overclock too much, otherwise you could hurt your gpu. EDIT: Also, try defragging your hard drive and also do a disk cleanup. Just search "Defrag" and "Disk Cleanup" in the windows search bar in the start menu and they should pop up. -

This is some pretty bad micro stuttering, better call it just stuttering. Anyway, if you haven't done so already, update your drivers. I've heard that micro stuttering usually happens with multi-gpu configurations (SLI, Crossfire, or a multi gpu card [ex. gtx 690]). Driver updates and then a restart can help with that. But I'm pretty sure you've heard enough about driver updates. Have you fiddled with your gpu settings? You could try a mild overclock on your gpu or cpu, or change your gpu settings in manage 3d settings (bunch of options). You have good hardware, and something definitely isn't right, so don't give up (I play dayz on a laptop, somehow it is somewhat playable and this doesn't happen to me). You could also try this: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2270829... It may not be applicable to you but it's worth giving a look. (If this does solve your problem, I don't have a paypal, but some beans would really hit the spot) -
I personally don't think Macs are garbage, they're actually very visually appealing computers. But that's the thing. If you name something you can do on a Mac, you can do it on a PC or something equivalent to that program or task on PC without a Mac operating system. In terms of Mac being the all-around computer, Mac is only in contention for a simple, everyday user, anywhere from watching videos to sending emails, but that's really it. In order to do more demanding things, you need to get complicated with Macs. Now I'm not saying I can't do complicated things on a Mac, nor am I saying I can't do simple things on a PC, but for a more involved user, PCs are built to do more complicated things. Again, I'm not saying Macs are bad, but for the price they charge for what I want to do... that won't work. I can do the same things on a PC, save money by not having to bootcamp, and spend half the money. Yes, well the thing is, you could have gotten the same specs on a Pc for half the price. And why buy a mac and then just say you can bootcamp? Just buy a PC directly and skip bootcamping and buying another operating system. And yea, we accept completely that macs can run games just as fast, but you also just admitted we can do it for half the price. Why would we pay double the price for the same performance?

This looks sort of like the old artifacting problem a while back but in a whole different way. Whether it's an artifacting problem or not, I can suggest some of the following: - Enable and then disable vertical sync - Go into your cfg or Arma2OAPROFILE (forget which one it is) and change the values for scene complexity and terrain grid. - Boot up OA/DayZ with an integrated gpu and then switch it back to your regular gpu.

You do know that it's possible none of us helped you because we don't know the answer either and it isn't our sole duty just to constantly refresh one of the several FPS problems pages waiting for your requests. And also, be thankful for what you have (your rig). I have been playing DayZ on a laptop and have not yet gotten an opportunity to buy my own rig.

*How to make DayZ use dedicated GPU?*
iSkillzorz replied to iSkillzorz's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Someone finally agrees with me. -
I currently play on an intel i5-2430M CPU @ 2.40GHz, (x4) asus n53s laptop. I am looking forward to building a gaming pc later this year, but this is a problem that I need an answer to that will be necessary for both computers. I have an nvidia gt 540m 1gb as my dedicated gpu that I use for games, and I have intel hd 3000 graphics for day-to-day programs (like iTunes, chrome, etc.). My graphics card holds up fine in all the games I have (css maxed out plays at 35 fps, tf2 is at 50 fps, nba 2k11 at 100 fps). Anyway, DayZ really has me stumbled. I know how to make programs use different gpu's, but in DayZ, I feel like the performance is the same no matter which card I use. In fact, I got the same fps. Here's the 3D application settings tab I have for DayZ/Arma2 OA (settings.png). All this time, have I never really been using my nvidia gpu at all? Also, I used to be able to do the autodetect gpu thing on nvidia's website. Now, it never detects it, and even the canirunit program just detects my intel hd 3000. DayZ used to run fine for me around 30 fps (one time, it was even 60 fps) before nvidia came out with driver updates and before dayz came out with big updates. Now, 30 fps is a long shot and my average is usually 23. With shadows, AA, postprocessing, Anisotropic filtering, etc. off, there is only a difference of 4-5 fps between playing on low settings and very high settings. My Question is, how can I make sure DayZ is using my nvidia gpu?

*How to absolutely 100% force Dayz to use my dedicated GPU*
iSkillzorz replied to iSkillzorz's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Thanks for the feedback, although I'm not trying to make the entire game run all on the gpu. I just want to make 100% sure that when a gpu is used it is my dedicated one, which I have googled and still have yet to figure. -
*How to absolutely 100% force Dayz to use my dedicated GPU*
iSkillzorz posted a topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Before anyone may ask this, yes my drivers are updated. I currently have a Nvidia GT 540m gpu on my asus n53s, running an i5 2430m @2.4 Ghz turbo booster to 3.0 Ghz. Anyway, in order to make arma 2/ arma 2 OA i must go into the nvdia control panel and select the program to be used by my gpu, and not my integrated intel hd 3000. I currently get around 23 fps on this gpu in dayz, although it handles much other games on high, and even css maxed out at minimum 30 fps (yes, I have also tried every single thing you could possibly imagine to boost my performance, but no luck. This includes ramdisk, settings values to 1, disabling post process, etc. It doesn't work). Anyway, I am not convinced dayz is using at all. I made it use my integrated chip and it gets the same exact performance as my dedicated gpu. The fps is the same, the image looks the same, the responsiveness is the same. So, how can I 100% be sure that dayz is definitely using my nvidia gpu. Did I do everything right, or am I just choosing the wrong .exe for arma 2. Maybe both cards have the same exact perofrmance? I don't know, I'd be very thankful if someone could help me out. Thanks, iSkillzorz -
Devblog update: Where is the Standalone?

So much stuff going in, holy crap! This is probably going to be one of the greatest games of all time. Take your time Dean, make this amazing! -
Hey man, I know what you're feeling. I, myself, have an i5 ASUS n53s. This laptop, for its money and the fact that it has only an i5, is a beast at running games. But dayz... it struggles. Here are my specs: Operating System MS Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit SP1 CPU Intel Core i5 2430M @ 2.40GHz Sandy Bridge 32nm Technology GPU: Nvidia Geforce GT 540m CUDA 1gb RAM 6.00 GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 665MHz (9-9-9-24) Motherboard ASUSTeK Computer Inc. N53SV (CPU 1) Graphics Generic PnP Monitor (1920x1080@60Hz) Hard Drives 596GB Western Digital WDC WD6400BPVT-80HXZT1 (SATA) 35 °C Optical Drives Slimtype BD E DS4E1S Audio Realtek High Definition Audio I ran speccy so maybe you could get a bit more info out of my response. I've tried almost everything, and fortunately i can get my laptop to around 30 fps on very high, which i am fine with. I don't know how people with desktop computers can disable postprocess effects and get 100 more fps. When I do it I get maybe 5 more fps. Try looking straight up in dayz or straight down. It doesn't fix anything but it's cool to see how much fps you can get and it reassures you that your computer CAN run dayz. You have an i7, how many cores is it? I'm not sure what the "Q" in your cpu means. I've got a quad core. Your GHz output seems to be a bit low for an i7, but that could just be because i don't know what "Q" is or how good the 720 model is. The GT 320M seems like a sturdy midrange card, and nvidia products hold up pretty well, so that probably isn't the issue. Try: - making sure that the arma2 and arma2OA .exe files are run with the nvidia processor - Try Gamebooster 3 maybe? I've tried this with minecraft and it worked wonders, some people say it helped them a lot with dayz, some say its bogus and it can screw things up. Personally, I think it helps a little because it shuts off temporarily processes that just make your computer do more work, allowing more space, memory, and time for the game. Google it. - Turn shadows, aa, atoc, ppaa (or whatever), shadows, hdr, postprocessing off completely, and also turn ansiotropic filtering off. - Do a test run of arma 2 and see how the runs. Remember that dayz/arma2 is very poorly optimized for performance and that arma 2 is a HUGE military simulator and it must simulate and control everything in the dayz Chernarus map. Dayz framerates are an issue for almost everybody. - Close all programs possible except for whatever you launch dayz with and dayz itself. ESPECIALLY don't have minecraft running in the background. If you're seriously frustrated, and you don't mind using a desktop, I suggest building your own gaming pc. There are many videos on youtube that explain the process and you can build some really great machines to be proud of from any budget, whether it be $300-$1000. A big catalyst for gaming performance is the motherboard (you'd want an i7 unlocked and unleashed model) and the gpu (obviously don't buy a $1,100 gtx 690, but something in the mid hundreds like a gtx 545 or something, idk), and of course, ram. You may want to add more ram to your laptop to maybe help. RAM is pretty cheap, and I'm pretty sure a tech guy at best buy would install the ram for a reasonable price. Hope this helps -iSkillzorz :D

Okay, so about a few days ago I was making another run to the NW airfield. I find a crashed heli, but it didn't even have weapons, so I kept going. About 1000m away from the NW airfield I find another crashed heli. This one has an FN FAL and a M107, each of them came with only one clip. I put the sniper in my backpack and carried the FAL around, dropping my winchester. However, now I feel like I can't do much against zombies because I can't find another mag for my FAL (making my friends shoot them for me or use my pistol). I can't seem to part with it for several reasons: 1. It's rare 2. It has great stopping power 3. I don't want some ignorant person to find it in a log cabin, think they got lucky, and then boast to everyone that they are super lucky. I know that a gun is really useless no matter how good it is if it doesn't have any ammo. So, should I just use up all the ammo and then find another gun, just drop it now, or hold on to it? It's the first time I really found a lot of good stuff and I am currently past my recent best of survival time.

Hey, I posted this suggestion in a longer version on another post, but, in short terms, this is it (it worked for me). Make sure that the server you join matches your day z version, but also your arma 2 patch version. If they don't match, you won't be able to connect. What I suggest is searching arma 2 beta patches and selecting the most recent one, install it (don't remember how to do that, but search up videos), and joining a server. Hope this helps PS: Youy may also want to verify your game caches, verify day z, check sixupdater, and launch steam as administrator. None of these things can hurt! EDIT: I have that problem when I reinstall battleye too, you have to do a manual reinstall which isn't too hard.
