zombies shoud have more realistic loot
Wiley replied to DeadManWalking2's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
The military zombies already occasionally have military loot on them. Still, I like the idea of expanding that. -
Oh yeah? Well that's just like... your opinion, man...

A way to help curb the amount of pointless murders by people.
Wiley replied to Bratalise's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I disagree. With the right justification, I believe the average person would sleep like a baby.If they truly believed it was them or that other person, and that it was self defense, many wouldn't have a problem with it at all. It's only a matter of time before that newb with the hatchet finds himself a gun and comes hunting you to take your beans. -
That. That line right there. Let me quote that again. That is what differentiates an Alpha test from a Beta test. Most Alpha tests are not the game in a playable state. They're there to test shit. Most Alphas, server wipes are commonplace. I'm honestly surprised this doesn't happen more here. Debugging is not a priority during an Alpha unless it is truly a show stopper. Yes, artifacts are annoying. Doesn't prevent the game from running in most scenarios, or the temporary fixes provide a workaround for most people. The storage issue doesn't prevent the game from running, it just prevents people from hoarding up a bunch of gear. An issue for playability? Sure. Doesn't prevent the game from running. The geometry breaking bones? Happens often to some people, I can't remember the last time I hurt myself on a door/something on the ground. Doesn't prevent the game from running.Would it be nice if the above issues were fixed? Fuck, yes! Does Rocket owe us anything as testers? Fuck, no! People saw a bunch of videos on Youtube and came in, clicked on 'download Alpha' and expected a playable game. That is not a guarantee in an Alpha, ever. I'm sorry you guys weren't aware of that. I love how people say, 'Alpha is not an excuse.' That is flat out wrong. An Alpha test makes no guarantee of playability. Your ill informed expectations are irrelevant.

That would surprise me slightly. I don't really understand what causes artifacting outside of heat/bad hardware, but as it is tied to specific objects in the game, that would say to me it's something along the line of an artwork/modeling fix. Surely that's within the scope of the mod?
-
That's the rumor, so basically it's not happening til standalone.
-
Yep. No point in a server wipe with no duping fix. Horse, then cart.
-
So Gamescom's over. I hope he releases something between now and PAX. That would make all the little buckaroos happy.
-
I think it would be neat. Basically make a map an item. On pickup, maybe be able to change the name of it so you can differentiate between your own map and the guy you just killed's map. Maybe same thing for GPS's, with the ability to see their waypoints and marks?

The difference is, (once they solve the storage flakiness) that tent is available for anybody to loot. Passersby can take what they like from your tent if they find it. You're not guaranteed to come back and find your stash intact. Rocket has pretty much said, 'We provide the tools. It's up to you to do what you like with them.' It seems to me that includes tents. What I wouldn't mind seeing done with tents is, if the person who placed it (and only that person) doesn't save it every 7 days, it vanishes. Further to this, once you die, you lose the ability to save that tent and it goes away 7 days after its last save.

The gist of the underground bunker idea seems to be underground bunkers would be placed, and then you go in through pretty much a manhole, and then you're inside an instanced 'bunker' area. If opposing people are around these entrances, it seems to me like it would be pretty much a firing squad situation on either side of this doorway. Walk through either way, and you're on a giant bullseye. I'm having trouble imagining good gameplay on something like this. As to 'keys', I'd be fine with them if there was also a satchel charge universal key option. This is obviously assuming duping has been fixed before this is implemented.

Shot a sniper, his body sunk into the floor and vanished
Wiley replied to AfterShave's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The rumor appears to be if the guy dies and alt-F4's fast enough, the body sinks into the ground instead of allowing you to loot it. Note this is different from alt-F4ing before death to save yourself. -
Don't get attached to your gear.

Where is the rage about the RPG-elements ?
Wiley replied to SirSlayer's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
But... If there's no pizza in your house, how could you have cold pizza for breakfast then? *head asplodes* I'm not too stressed yet about those quotes. If he'd said, 'Yes, there will be skills that you grind up to be able to do certain things.' Then there will be rage. I'm not particularly fond of the idea, but how annoying it is will depend completely on implementation. -
If you could implement ANYTHING What would you?
Wiley replied to Minsty's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
If they're already chasing you it won't work, but if you throw something while you're hidden, they'll meander in that general direction. Flares work very well. -
I see the game a bit differently from that, and I think that's potentially the greatest thing about this game. Rocket's said repeatedly that he gives us the environment and no rules, and what we do with it is up to us. The rampant duping and storage disappearing issues are kind of killing the system at the moment, but it seems to me setting up a hidden encampment to store your stuff is one of the things one would do in an apocalyptic setting. If you got enough people together, I could also see there being a desire to build a town, walled, with people defending it. I imagine once the tools are in place, you'll see people doing stuff like setting up safe trade zones where they've got a walled town, parties wanting to trade go in, and they're covered by the people who own the town with some kind of fee paid for the safe trade opportunity. People who try to renege on deals in town get sniped. That type of thing. I also imagine there will be a buttload of people who think they're Lord Humungous and want to take the beans from the town. Organized bandits might even have a shot at doing this. Hence, gameplay. My point is, the game provides the tools, we decide how to use them. As it stands now, we've got a lot of individuals with guns shooting people with infinite ammo because they haven't got the tools to do much beyond that. I realize it's a buttload of speculation, but that's what I think has the potential to happen.Personally, I'm not hugely fond of the OP's idea as is just because it would pretty much turn the entire game medieval. While cool, I'm not entirely sure it's a good fit for DayZ.

My pet theory is he released 1.7.2.5 and went to Gamescom. Probably not a lot of development going on in his hotel room at an event like that. The tent/vehicle issues are definitely tough to play through though. I'm curious to see how the next month or so goes with all that's been going on.

If you could implement ANYTHING What would you?
Wiley replied to Minsty's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
If I could snap my fingers and have it done, in order of importance to me: - Halt duping. - Halt client side scripting. - Logout takes 30 seconds to a minute. Resets if you're bleeding. - Make bullet travel more realistic, add crosswinds, angle of fire having an effect on trajectory, etc. - Make it so disabling visual effects doesn't give you much of an edge in spotting people. That's a tall order I realize, and frankly I'm not quite sure how to accomplish it, but it would be nice. - A single giant server, or at least North American/Euro type split. - Obviously, a big enough map to go with it with different kinds of terrain etc. - Make all buildings enterable. - Add different kinds of enemies in the environment, things like well fed infected moving better than starved infected. Maybe infected bears/wolves/goats/birds. The occasional enemy that can actually outrun you. - Better melee hit mechanics than an AOE attack from the NPCs. - The ability to build fortifications/houses/settlements. That about covers my wishlist. I realize for most of it, it'll have to wait for standalone if it ever happens. -
I've got to agree with 29. The only times I've ever survived someone trying to kill me, I shot first. The first time, I blindsided a guy that was looking for targets. Possibly a bandit action, I'd consider shooting the guy covering the direction I was headed in with a sniper rifle self defense though. The second time, I had the drop, the guy went for his primary and I put him down. I'd call the second for sure self defense, but under any 'humanity' scheme I've seen proposed, I would be the aggressor.

That's exactly what I mean. A double-barrel takes a magazine of 2. When you pick up a '2x pellets' or '2x slugs' for the double barrel, that's the 'magazine' that gets loaded into it. Basically the game treats it as a 2 shot magazine. You load the gun, it puts the magazine into the gun. When it's empty, the magazine vanishes from your inventory and it loads from the next one. ArmA has no concept of a 'round' in your inventory, just a magazine with however many parts of its capacity full.
-
I believe it's an engine limitation. Guns take magazines, as far as ArmA is concerned. An 8 shot gun takes an 8 shot magazine. I might be wrong, but I wouldn't expect a fix for this until standalone comes along.

Um... the 1866 is a rifle. The rest of the point stands. I'd much rather see them stack in tens or so, with the ability to use them across all shotguns.

Suggestion: rebalance game with realistic weapon performance/damage.
Wiley replied to bazbake's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Interesting read. It just seems so counterintuitive. I'm still not convinced that all the tissue in the temporary cavity is just swell and unharmed. While my medical degree expired quite some time ago, I have trouble believing that tissue would be moved that far and that fast without some damage. Elastic, yes. That elastic? I'm not convinced. I have no trouble believing the effectiveness of the temporary cavity is very overstated. That seems highly plausible. Definitely food for thought. -
You have learned firsthand one of the advantages of not being seen.

A hatchet... or just some decoration to the rustic farmlandview..?
Wiley replied to Colonel_Crunch's topic in New Player Discussion
Wait'll you go into the military tents and find a rack with a half dozen AK's in it that you can't pick up. I said a few bad words when I found that. Legend has it that whosoever removes the axe from the block of wood shall enable the PvE only server option.
