Oh, no need to worry about that. The Real World engine has the best collision detection I have ever seen. :)

@Mr. Two: The main items that 'wear' on semi auto/automatic guns are moving parts. Springs, bolt assembly, etc. Unless they implement the ability to find or build a machine shop ingame, there are relatively few user servicable parts in an assault rifle. Cleaning should be a factor as well. The higher end gear should only be repairable through replacement, really. I wouldn't mind seeing a system similar to vehicles implemented, where you've got an M4, with a receiver, back stock, forestock, bolt assembly, firing pin, main spring... Maybe trigger assembly? All of that as well as modular optics/attachments where applicable. Break them down into main components that can be swapped out from other rifles if desired. Make the ones that are interchangeable across models IRL interchangeable in game.

Stuff on the ground, I have to agree I haven't found a lot. Corpses and tents are where I've found most of the little high end gear I've found.

...Apparently they did. Sorry that conflicts with your worldview. Um, that's a direct reply to your post. I kind of did READ your post. You remember the part where you said: And my point was, that's great and all, still doesn't make them his 'customers' regardless of the legion of wishful thoughts to the contrary. They had to buy a PC to play this game. Does he owe them something for that too?

Well, it certainly does help. But that has precisely nothing to do with how we feel about it. Just because a buttload of people saw a bunch of youtube videos and downloaded the alpha test doesn't change it magically into a beta, or as some seem to think it is, a finished product.Rocket had to go to Gamescon. I assume he's at PAX as well. From what I saw he threw out 1.7.2.5 just before he left in an attempt to fix a couple of the issues people were bitching about. Mostly the artifacting. Unfortunately, it didn't work and broke the tents. That is how testing works. Sometimes solutions don't work and/or break other stuff. It is just the way it goes. The guy's out of town, away from his development environment. I think it would be really swell if he dropped 1.7.3 before he went to PAX, but it's not like when you're playing WoW or Diablo and Bnet goes down. He is under no obligation to deliver us a level of support. He's also not required to bring us up to speed on development, as much as people would like to believe he is. Like I said earlier, I had in the past often wondered why they don't open up testing more to the public on games instead of hiring testers. The avalanche of abuse and whining this forum has generated should be referenced by any developer who has that thought. I guess if you're willing to put up with the constant whining, it might have advantages. As to: We made that investment. Rocket never made the claim that bugfixes would come within hours, nor did he make the claim that it was a finished product. There is no EULA that guarantees playability or uptime. Everything to do with this game is abundantly clear that it is an Alpha test. We chose to buy ArmA to get to play it. That doesn't change anything, as much as you guys want to believe it does. You don't have a leg to stand on. The fact that you apparently didn't understand what 'Alpha' means within the context of development is nobody's fault but your own. This is not a 'product' that you purchased, as much as you try to say otherwise. It's a free mod for a game that a guy put up, and a buttload of people downloaded it. That still doesn't magically turn us into 'customers'.

The simple way to put it, get used to how much time between you pulling the trigger and seeing the puff at different distances. Watch how far your target moves in that amount of time, and put the crosshair appropriately ahead of them. It just takes practice to get used to it.

If you haven't already, I'd doublecheck your key mappings. Maybe there's something set to fire weapon that shouldn't be? If that's not it, I'd be suspicious of the touch pad as well.

Watching this forum over the last month has been a real eye-opener for me as to why I've never seen an open alpha before. As much as people like to argue (ad nauseum) to the contrary, in an alpha test, they do not owe us a thing as far as updates to playability.

It is really weird. Some days, I don't see a gun all day. Other days, I walk through a barracks and there are 4 different guns in it.

Give Current Dayz Players Free Game Keys On Release
Wiley replied to Mikeloeven (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I bought a really awesome chalupa to eat while I was playing DayZ. Rocket owes me a free standalone key. -
The main problem with the mod, I think, is most of the worst issues people have with it are engine limitations. It's been openly and repeatedly stated scripting can't be stopped on this engine without major rework. I don't see that happening. Same thing with alt-f4ing and duping. Unfortunately, those three things pretty much break the game. I would hope the mod will be used as a testing ground for new ideas, but with the three things I mentioned above apparently being unsolvable on the mod due to the engine, the mod's never going to have the scarcity of resources and gameplay that results from that as the standalone. I just don't see it being any other way, though I'd love to be wrong in this case.

Delay for characters to disappear after logging out

That was what I read, was engine limitation. -
A way to help curb the amount of pointless murders by people.
Wiley replied to Bratalise's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
That is one oddity for this game, is it seems to be more necessary for people to organize at least at the beginning outside the game rather than in game on the fly. In game comms being less than stellar is probably one major reason for that. If I were looking to start up a group, I think I'd be inclined to do so on the forums, maybe get a TS server going or something along those lines... -
Map markers that i did not place?

With all the LEGIONS of people complaining about getting ganked, why on Earth have they not banded together to stop the people doing the ganking? -
Map markers that i did not place?
Wiley replied to marymart456's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yep. On a recruit server zombies show up as 'man', and there should be a blue dot with a line on it that represents a player as 'rifleman' if memory serves. I don't recall ever seeing 'sniper' but maybe it goes by what gear they have on them. It works on the basis of last spotting. If you see more than one blue dot, that's another player. -

Explain what's stopping you from doing that right now again? -

If you decide to be a good person and work to build a group and base through scavenging, you get all of the rewards that being in a group entails. Help when you need it, people to talk to, reinforcements if your group is attacked, and soforth. If you decide to be a loner and kill people for their stuff, you get all of the rewards that killing people for their stuff entails. All the loot you can take with you, and soforth. If you decide to group up with a group of likeminded individuals and take what you want at the point of a gun, you get the best of both worlds. The point is, make your decision and live with the consequences. -
They already invented that game. It's called 'Mount and Blade'. About the only thing it's missing is zombies.
-
The best way to do it is zero farther, hold low, because then you can see your target.

Delay for characters to disappear after logging out
Wiley replied to Luzifer's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Holy crap, he's right. 'delay alt f4' returns nothing, neither does 'delay logout'... Wow. To answer your question, it's been brought up about a brazilian times. The rumor I've seen is not until standalone, but I'm not sure on that. -

Ignoring the alt-F4 crowd, what is stopping people from killing the people who are hill sniping again? -
It seems to me you guys who are in favor of the tents disappearing might be looking at things from the wrong end. Losing all your stuff on death isn't 'punishment' exactly, it's a result of you dying and your corpse keeping its items so the guy who killed you can loot it. The philosophy Rocket seems to be proposing is, give us the tools, we do with them what we like. With some of the more ambitious ideas I've seen him mention to do with base building and so on, it seems to me that we may eventually have the possibility to do things like set up a trading post, or a hospital, or a casino, or whatever else comes into our heads. The difference between this game and what most people are expecting is, there will be no 'build trading post' button. It will have to be staffed and protected by players who set it up themselves. We're early in game development right now, but I'd respectfully submit that you guys that are talking about 'survival being the point of the game' might be looking at it a bit shortsightedly. Or maybe all my speculation is wrong.

It's a slower paced game than most. Fortunately for you, there are many, many, many games that cater to your playstyle. Enjoy them. :)

Yes, because they must eat the shit that every person who can click 'sign up' on a forum board spews. They must eat it, and like it. Not all posts are worthy of respect and deep consideration. I would count this thread as one of them.
