    I had a somewhat similar experience on NL 13 server yesterday. I also do not feel like playing the Elektro/Cherno deathmatch and generally want to avoid contact with other players as most of them tend to be homicidial maniacs. Now this wasn't my very first murder - I had killed one guy at night in Cherno supermarket, basically in self-defense, several days earlier in another life but since he was a recently-spawned almost gearless guy, I doubt it was a big deal either way. Beyond that I had laid some potshots towards some players in the past (mostly to scare them off), never causing more than a small injury and allowing me to safely vacate the area. But yesterday I became an "accidental" murderer. I was doing some long range trekking along the northern woods, search for campsites and hidden vehicles. I had aquired a shiny new DMR sniper rifle from one such site a bit earlier and then... Sound of a chopper... It flies above me, south to north, then circles back towards south and hovers far above me. I'm out in the open so I bolt towards the closest forest and hide. The chopper lingers for a bit and then heads north out of view. I thought "okay, didn't seem to want to pick a fight so no harm done" and continue on my journey. I cross a hill and then a valley heading south-southeast and end up close to the deer stand slightly east of Devil's Castle. I snipe off the zombies and check it out (nothing much there) and as I get down from the deer stand, I hear the chopper again. I manage about 20m and I'm in the middle of the forest which isn't very thick and the chopper is hovering much lower, nose towards west with the side open towards me. I'm fairly sure I'm about to be shot by the gunner and hesitate for a second. Still no shots but the chopper is there, not moving. I decide to take a couple of potshots which I assume would drive the chopper away - who wants to risk their shiny new toy - so I take aim with DMR, aiming directly at the side door and fire off 3 shots. I fully expect them to miss or just ding the hull. The chopper jerks a bit and I'm instantly mugged by infected - looks like the chopper entered the range of the Deer Stand when hovering and caused the three military zombies to respawn - and they dislike the noise my DMR makes. So I bolt through the woods to shake them off - two fall behind and third one is shot to the head after a short dash. No biggy. Bandage, bit of meat, all fine... moving on. ...then I notice my Murder count is at 1. I had completely missed any "killed" message as the infected drove me to run away. Damn, my "potshots" must have killed a guy aboard that chopper. I had not killed anyone before that after the most recent coastal excursion... Well, that probably did the trick scaring them off if one of the passengers suddenly got a DMR bullet to the head :blush: Still, I felt sorry. I had no intention to kill - I was just trying to survive and with the chopper being in position to shoot at me while I was holding a shiny new sniper rifle... I acted on instinct and... fired. So whoever didn't return from that chopper flight due to the encounter... My apologies. I'm usually not that good shot but I guess DMR is pretty accurate...

    AFAIK the (Friendly Fire) messages show up when someone shoots a person while he is still loading into the world and not yet controllable.

    They are not hard. Just time-consuming as the optimal way is pretty much crawling and bypassing every single one. These days if you shoot an infected, you are pretty much doing it wrong - you are almost guaranteed additional aggroed zeds (unless using a very quiet gun) and ammo is (about to become) very limited. I'm not entirely convinced this is the goal of the mod but I'm more than capable of adapting to it. With old gun damage values and zed hearing, the optimal play was to bypass those you could with crouch walk and intelligent use of terrain while using a quiet pistol to off those that would probably detect you to save time. If you messed up, you could still alert several of them and either have to fight them off or run away. This is not really an option any more - headshots can miss and there is a high risk that a missed headshot alerts the infected and almost certainly brings the whole horde within 200-300m on you; far too many to take out.

    Hackers....

    Well, BattleEye has received constant updates so I would imagine they are trying... and considering there has been quite a few of "Whine, my "friend" got global banned and I'm sure he didn't do anything, what can he do?", it is at least somewhat effective. Problem is, the sheer influx of new players is currently so high (recent Steam sale being a major culprit) that it takes a while until every moron is detected and banned as BattleEye doesn't do proactive stuff - it doesn't prevent the hacks from working (Arma 2 would need fixes for that), all it can do is log the incidents and queue for a global ban. Problem is, if you just got wiped out by a hacker pulling everyone into one spot for thunderdome or just randomly nuking everyone on the server, you are too dead to care about the fact that he most likely will be banned in the near future. Your gameplay is still ruined.

    UH-1H Takes A LOT of Fuel

    Also reportedly the chopper eats a lot less fuel if you actually fix it completely - including replacing all the windows (unlike with cars where it is optional). Once everything is fixed, the fuel usage goes down quite a bit.

    You misunderstand the design philosophy of Day Z. It is not designed to be fair. The game is about survival. You do not need to kill zeds to survive. Arguably you may need to kill other survivors to survive but even there evasion is perfectly valid tactic. A weapon is a luxury item. You can scavenge perfectly fine without alerting a single infected if you are careful.

    I am spawning without a gun

    It is actually a good thing you don't spawn with a pistol any more. You see latest Arma 2 patch tweaked gun damage. Pistols became BB guns. Takes 4-8 body shots from a pistol to kill an infected (excluding headshots) and infected these days actually hear the shots and join the feast... If newbies were to still spawn with a pistol, they would inevitably fire it against the first infected, wonder why it doesn't die and shoot again and again and... :munch munch munch, dead survivor: The way it is now, you first have to learn to crawl around... which turns out to be pretty much the best way to go on your business anyway even after you DO find a gun. Problem being that guns that actually kill infected in 1-2 shots are so loud that one kill brings 10 friends and pistols are... weak and also risk bringing more things on you. I've nearly died twice from a simple "hey, let's pop this to clear the way" due to the extra bonus friends that zoom at you these days... it even seems that the infected spawns are semi-bugged in that if you aggro some, there is a substantial chance that extras spawn to replace them almost instantly, leading to cascade flood of infected towards your pretty face. So, crawl - at least until the guns and the zombie spawn/hearing mechanics are retuned.

    No, the problem is that some animals do not show the meat immediately on gutting. Just wait around for a minute or two and suddenly the meat is lootable. Granted, hanging around in the middle of the field waiting for the meat to spawn is... umm... somewhat hazardous.

  13. Hey, if you are one of the morons who are pissing all over the game by making it a hackfest, you deserve every bit hatred you get. The community would probably be better off if you stayed away. Once a hacker, always scum. On the other hand, I guess if you pay for your sins (new CD Key) and stay clean... even scums deserve 2nd chance. Mind you, you'd still be scum but you would be playing assuming you stay clean.
  14. The "Amazon Sale" 0.08 cents is almost certainly bogus and so is the amazon/steam ratio (steam probably sold a lot more) so your result is way low. I would imagine the real revenue would be closer to 10 million. Still, your final conclusion is probably accurate; they are making good money but they are not swimming in it. And if they have any sense, they are investing a lot of that into making new games anyway... If DayZ popularity means that they can hire a few more people to make Arma 3 (and the engine for it) better while also supporting and updating the old Arma 2 codebase for DayZ in the near-term, it's all good.

    DayZ Vehicles Spawn W/ Items?

    This is just retarded... basically the server rules don't seem to matter because DayZ devs can't really police the server rules - too many servers, too many people don't give one fuck about the rules. So in practice either you are buddy-buddies with a server admin and can participate in these risk-free farming sessions while the server is locked or all you can do on such a server is to be entertainment for the admin and his buddy-buddies camping with full set of high end toys (with plenty back in very hidden camp, ready to be duped as needed). So, anyone know good EU servers that actually keep it fair? Also would love to have an ability to blacklist servers from the DayZCommander based on community-based shitlisting (and perhaps a "if server ever appears in locked state on server scan, add it automatically to a shitlist" feature) so I can avoid ending up on such servers. Should such a system work, these cretins would end up sitting on their precious server, hugging their precious shiny things, only to find that nobody ever comes on...
  16. The zombie horde seems to be an effect of 1.7.2.4 You shoot some zombies with loud guns and almost every un-living thing in the area will beeline to you. However, it seems that at least some of those spawns then spawn additional zombies in very short order. You shoot another zombie, ringing the dinner bell for these new spawns that run to you and... it can go downhill fast. I've seen 80 additional zombies spawn on a fairly quiet server in such an event and while I'm sure some of these were spawns elsewhere on the map, I would say more than 30 of those were around the noise I made.

    There is this airfield at the northwest corner of the map.. lots of very nice guns there... (Some of them may already be in hands of other players who may or may not be aiming at your head from 400m+ away. Pay no attention to this)

    I believe the term you are seeking is "PC Gaming Master Race". And it is somewhat hard to discuss with console peasants as they have problems forming coherent sentences and their hardware is roughly six years out of date.

    Can confirm they are spawning on 1.7.2.4 servers, just looted a Ghille suit yesterday evening. Too bad it was a cursed Ghille suit; I got killed not 2 minutes after that...

    Well, what did you expect? Fixed loot spawn system is always going to get this reaction. Also as the effort to clear or sneak into a building is roughly the same, people obviously choose "medium" or "high" value buildings - more loot spawn spots, better odds, same effort. The only thing in game that isn't easily farmable is the helicopter crash sites and even those have a limited number of spawn points (thankfully there are so many that they take some effort to scout out)

    What do you do, to get that loot?

    Short answer; 1. Farming high end spawns in groups (the loot system is farmable when you know how it works) and 2. Duping items using Tent-related bugs. DayZ is far too alpha for the item system to be robust.
