Only altering config files, I'll admit to being defensive about that because I like having the option to fix developer mistakes. ;) If I wanted to play half-arsed games with no way to fix them I'd blow the dust off my Xbox 360, until then I will fix half-arsed PC games. :D No worries, I'm British so I don't take banter to heart. :P

Vert- is a disadvantage to a widescreen player because it chops off the top/bottom so that it looks widescreen, while keeping it as wide as what a 4:3 player would see. In essence we lose the top and bottom of our screen when lazy developers do not implement a native hor+ or anamorphic FOV. That's why you get so many people going "I don't play in first person because it looks shit/like I'm looking through a letter box or binoculars/gives me motion sickness". Sure, by fixing it we do gain a wider field of view than somebody using an old 4:3 or 5:4, but it's the correct field of view for the type of monitor that is now the standard and is available to everybody for a low cost.

Actually, Rocket said the opposite. That only spawning illegitimate weapons would get you banned, and that using them was fair game (probably because eventually people will die and lose them anyway).

Yeah, I agree. If what was said about Rocket's comment on the level of darkness is true, then I hope the night time is not so dark in the standalone version, as it currently stands though NVGs are quite a nifty toy to have (just like any convenience item in the game, like compasses and binocs, or nice weapons).

If you weren't supposed to tamper with them, they would be locked down and instructions for tampering with them would not be plainly explained and publicly available on the official BIS Wiki. Editing the config files fixes problems and allows us to use legitimate features that aren't available in the vanilla client (like using a proper FOV for a 16:9 resolution, instead of being disadvantaged by a shitty vert- or equally dodgy implementation). See above. But it's not been confirmed this is causing the bans, I was simply asking if it might be the cause because I don't want to get banned.

I play day and night servers, but if I log in to a night-time server with absolutely no moonlight then, more often than not, I simply can't be arsed. If I found a pair of NVGs I'd still play both day and night servers, but I'd be much less likely to immediately log out of a night-time one. Part of the problem is that I'm using an LCD monitor that has a much, much higher contrast than most so, unlike most people with an LCD, I actually see something close to black instead of differing shades of grey (the flip-side is that my white brightness is also lighter, making moonlit nights look amazing and clear). Trust me, it's impossible to see anything,and I refuse to cheat with my contrast.

That's like asking why binoculars or good guns are "good for the game". You work to find them, you get to enjoy the benefit.

I love my Crucial M4 but it does absolutely nothing for :( That part seems entirely reliant on whether the server is shitting itself or not that day.

Have you made any performance/FOV tweaks in your config files? I'm still curious as to whether it's banning for this, I'm slightly afraid of logging in until we hear something official. :P

You clearly don't understand that there will be plenty of players doing this with no incentive at all, I am simply offering a friendly reward for the first video I receive for my own entertainment. Get madder. :)

EMI (electro-magnetic interference) more often than not happens if you're using badly shielded on-board sound, it happens if interference is leaking in from your CPU or graphics card. I was using a headset too but, every time I was on VOIP, my friends were saying it sounded like I had a helicopter/dirtbike in my room, or like I was using a vibrator. I tried absolutely everything to fix it, but in the end the only thing that worked was buying a dedicated sound card. It doesn't have to be an expensive one, I went with the Xonar DG.

I've not played for a few days, so I've not been banned, but could these bans be anything to do with config file edits? I've done some performance tweaks and fixed the FOV in mine so it's suitable for a 16:9 display, a little concerned this could trigger BattlEye as it did in Battlefield 2 (using PunkBuster) many moons ago.

Sounds like you need a new sound card, your audio sounds like a helicopter because of EMI. I had the same problem recently.

I love how you play on easymode servers and agro zombies like pros.
