If the stuff Rocket has said about his plans for more bandit "features" come to fruition, it'll help you to decide who to shoot before even talking to them. On top of the lame heartbeat he's said he has ideas (just ideas) for things like temporary blood on your hands after looting a freshly-killed player, and scars on your character's face etc.

I've not played DayZ on a standard HDD but, I have to be honest with you; While the application itself will load me in to the server lobby pretty much immediately, the connecting load screens (Loading, Creating Character, etc.) often take forever and I don't notice myself getting in to servers before my SSD-less friends do if we were in the lobby at the same time. Most of the loading screens are chatter and mission file/character uploading/downloading between the client, server, and hive I think.

A guy I know who works as a wedding and wildlife photographer uses one of those for working with RAW format, he'd be the first to say they're too disgustingly fast and high capacity for the needs of a gaming machine. I can imagine they'll become a more mainstream one day though. I hope so bud, OCZ models are easily the most recognisable brand out there.

That's a good point about BIS having do's and don'ts if it's true, I know nothing about ArmA modding, but I was thinking back to the interviews at Rezzed and such where Rocket stated that he's got the engine doing things it's "not supposed to do", such as hosting so many players on a single server with relative stability. If they have such guidelines then it does ease my concerns somewhat, but as random51 said there's all this talk about people hijacking your player IDs and CD Keys, and I read something someone was saying on this forum earlier about scripters being able to pinch the server.cfg file and logs. Not to mention that, sometimes, anti-cheats are simply shite and the companies being uppity about false positives (I'm looking at you, PunkBuster). I can just play something else for a day or two, if that's what it takes, but it'd seriously put my mind at ease to hear a statement from BE or DayZ staff. My main concern wouldn't even be having to pay to replace my copy of ArmA OA, it'd be having my copy in my Steam account de-activated and having to open a second Steam account (or buy the standalone game) to play it, I'm pretty protective of my very large and expensive Steam collection.

I use a Crucial M4 myself for the controller. When I was investigating which to get I was reading nothing but horror stories about BSODs and such with the Sandforce controllers. It's not as fast as many, 500MB/s read and half that in write, but it's blazing. The Windows flag doesn't even show on boot. :wub:

SSDs are a whole different animal. 500MB/s read speed is really obvious to the eye.

There's also the slight possibility, maybe, that something BattlEye changed is in conflict with a pretty shaky (at the best of times) alpha of a mod? Just saying. DayZ is not ArmA2 and ArmA2 is not DayZ, none of us know what Rocket might have changed while modding the game that could be in conflict with BE. Either way, I'm still hesitant to even launch the game until we hear from BattlEye or the DayZ staff.

Guys, I've not even been playing as long as the bandit skin has been removed, and even I know QEQE is waggling left/right to indicate friendly. I am suddenly not surprised there's such an epidemic of kill on sight now that I see nobody knows what waggling is. :P On topic: I find myself unable to respond to the poll, even the two "post-bandit skin" ones I could answer, it is too binary. Under the current system my action would completely depend on what this stranger was armed with. However, assuming there was a bandit skin system, or a partial bandit skin system as the third scenario suggests, I would shoot a bandit on sight while I had the element of surprise.

A friend of mine lost some decent gear when zombies attacked him in the apartments on the north edge of Cherno. Wasn't even the zombies that killed him, they knocked him unconscious on the stairs, and when he stood back up his legs broke and he died instantly.

I once went to that place on a rainy night and, when I was 40m south-west of the tower, a player scared the crap out of me randomly asking me on VON if I was friendly. I switched to my AK, just in case, and told him that I was. He told me he was going to check the military spawn because he'd found some cool loot in the tower already and fancied his luck. "I'm wearing a Czech pack and carrying a Winchester", he said, "don't try to shoot me, I'll be watching my back". I chatted to him a little bit as I made my way around the complex and in through the front gate and, much to my surprise, shambling military zombies were making their way out the front. I was telling him that I found it weird they'd only just spawned, even though somebody was already there. I went around the military building and in to the alcove where he said he'd be, but all I found there was a corpse. I could just about make it out in the dark, it was wearing a Czech pack and carrying a Winchester. "You there, mate?", I asked him. He had a bit of a serious tone on, I thought he was just trying to scare me, he said "I'm here, I can see you". I told him there's a dead player here matching his description and that he'd better not be baiting me with a corpse, his only response was "I'm not dead, I'm right in front of you, don't you see?" I switched to my flashlight and shone it in to the alcove, the player was definitely dead, with flies and all, so I took one step forward to have a look through his gear. I checked my six to make sure nobody could ambush me and I got in closer. Suddenly, sending me in to complete shock, the head of the player corpse looked right at me. My heart was skipping beats at this point and, without even thinking about it, I hit Esc and ALT+F4'd like some kind of rookie coward. I sat back in my computer chair, looking around my room and telling myself I was getting far too involved in this bloody game, and when I'd calmed down I tabbed back to DayZ Commander. I looked for a different server, opting for a daytime one this time, because I wasn't having any bullshit shenanigans like that again, and I waited as the server loaded up. The server time was wrong, because this server was also a night time server. I had spawned in the same spot I logged out on the other server, and I still had my flashlight equipped, so I hit 'L'. The body was still there, looking at me. My character fell limp to the ground, unconscious and with broken legs. The game told me I was dead. That's the last time I went to that bloody place.

If BattlEye was messing up and you got a ban despite running no scripts and doing nothing dodgy, would it not be unfair? Some recognisable forum members are posting such testimony, I'm inclined to believe them over some arrogant kid who felt like making a thread.

When people post ranting drivel like the OP did, I ask them what you did, but with the qualifier "and what would you post if it happened to you?" I've not been banned, but I sure as shit am not going to make smug, petulant threads about how everyone who has been banned is a retarded skiddie and deserves it because sometime over the next 24 hours I could end up with a global ban for nothing and then I'd look really clever. So, go on OP, what if you were wrong and you got yourself an undeserved ban? What would you post?
