How to: Display FPS, cpu/gpu/mem usage or temperatures in-game.
DarkwaveDomina replied to bastardo's topic in General Discussion
I have used Afterburner for this purpose for a while, because it's nice to see exactly how much of your GPU(s) and CPU the game isn't using half the time. <_< Edit: Included link to a pic of what I am talking about. And before anyone mentions that SLI is not supported in DayZ, I got and still get the same results on a single card. -
Can Nothing be done about MetaGaming in Dayz?
DarkwaveDomina replied to yorkmorgan's topic in General Discussion
Despite your enthusiasm to spam this mod, half the links don't work and I can't find anything explaining specifically how their voice chat system works, so I can't see if it is remotely like what I want (as mentioned in the post nobody can be bothered responding to). Sorry, 100% not interested. -
The main thing to turn down for cities is Object Detail, but don't expect a miracle. Everyone gets shit framerates in cities.

Melee is now a Joke in Experimental- Fists more effective then Fire-Axe
DarkwaveDomina replied to hannibaldaplaya's topic in General Discussion
As I said in another thread, I feel there's not much point in using anything but fists currently. I'm already almost at that point on stable, at least when dealing with players since the knock-out makes it trivial to immobilise somebody, but when I was on experimental I found myself sighing when I got zombie agro because just I couldn't be bothered getting my now-weak fire axe out. Edit: What Aradia said about aiming is also 100% accurate, I was just on stable and I was trying to use various things to defend myself against zombies. Some melee weapons are quite good at connecting to your target, for example the pitchfork, but others like the hoe just frustrated me. I won't even mention garbage like the wrench that has been useless since the beginning. -
What do you consider "optimized" performance?

Okay Caboose. :P -

It's okay Caboose, you're allowed to be dissatisfied with something and still accept that it is part of alpha. -
I hold my own quite well against hostile players using an M4 or SKS, I tend to favour those over pistols as I feel I have a clearer view with those weapons when zoomed in. I am really not very good at taking on players with pistols so I'll only use those if I run out of ammo or am in close quarters. Or, as I mentioned, when imposing a 'handguns only' rule on my self.
-
Melee weapons are a joke. Unless it's a fire axe or a pitchfork I just use my fists. If I'm fighting players then it's fists only and it's that simple, I won't even waste my time with a melee weapon when I can knock them out with one hit to the chin. Unfortunately the fire axe is also a joke on experimental, I guess I will just Mike Tyson my way to the guns.

I don't know if you're responding to me, but unless I'm doing a self-imposed handguns only run my sidearm is a backup and nothing more. When I am doing a self-imposed handguns only run though I agree with you and enjoy using those two weapons due to their power. I find the recent additions mostly poor.

My First Bandit Kill On Standalone
DarkwaveDomina replied to I Pro Devon's topic in General Discussion
It has been a while since shooting someone ruined all of their stuff, and it never did ruin their weapon. A friend of mine got stuck in some rocks and asked me to shoot him in the face with my SKS, the only thing ruined was his helmet and I was able to salvage a lot of his stuff for him. -
My First Bandit Kill On Standalone
DarkwaveDomina replied to I Pro Devon's topic in General Discussion
You murdered someone. Suck it up, we've all done it. However allow me to join the chorus of people saying murder ! = banditry and banditry ! = murder. -
Ah, now I'm starting to see why people like you hate TeamSpeak. Is it because you play the game as a solo deathmatch and get used as target practice when you try to fight organised people who actually have friends? What a shame, do you want a hug?
-
Sometimes I like to do a life where I limit myself to handguns. My favourites are the classics, the FNX and the revolver. On my hardcore server character I am currently using an M4 for almost everything but I also have an Amphibia S for zombies.

What do you consider "optimized" performance?
DarkwaveDomina replied to Grimey Rick's topic in General Discussion
I struggle to answer in terms of FPS, but I want some consistency. Even if I have to play at 30 FPS I am sick of it being so messy. I want the culling of proxy objects, which was mentioned a month ago now, to be fixedI want to stop seeing 40% GPU utilisation in towns and 80-90% elsewhereI want to stop seeing 18-28 FPS in towns and 70 FPS elsewhereI want to be able to look around in a circle and not have my FPS cut in half because I look east instead of westI want to stop having to change my settings depending on what part of the map I am currently inI want to see better performance on my machine than some of the crappy computers my friends are usingI want to see the settings actually matter, as it stands now most of them do nothing in certain situationsI consider this issue worthy of being the top of the list in terms of priority. Nothing ruins my immersion more right now. To answer the poll with purely personal preference, on moderate settings my machine should realistically net me 60+ FPS. If we were talking about maximum settings then, naturally, my expectations would be much lower and I would settle for 30-40. -
Arma3 Third person fix mod...thoughts?
DarkwaveDomina replied to OrLoK's topic in General Discussion
When I made the mostly-joking comment about your avatar and defence of corner-peeking it was my first in this thread, as far as I can tell I have answered everything you have written to me. I pointed out what I dislike about corner-peeking on lamecore serversYou asked me what other games obscure vision outside your LOS, I responded to thatYou started with some irrelevant stuff about 1:1 mouse movement, I responded to thatYou continued with rubbish about how 1:1 movement will make DayZ like other shooters, I responded to thatYou made the most absurd argument yet, that 3PP requires more skill than 1PP, I responded to thatIf anything there's a trend of you not responding to my points so far. I answer yours, and instead of responding you move on to a new point. -

Why don't you argue against people's actual points instead of shit you have heard? I have never said anything like that, myself. -
What Shader model does Dayz run on ?
DarkwaveDomina replied to Dragabody's topic in General Discussion
This, though Dean recently said at Rezzed they were planning on tearing some stuff out and partially implementing DirectX 11 for things like lighting. -
Arma3 Third person fix mod...thoughts?
DarkwaveDomina replied to OrLoK's topic in General Discussion
It's usually the people who want to keep the current mouse movement who argue that changing it will make DayZ too much like ego shooters, even though that's a nonsense argument because there's a lot more involved in the gameplay in DayZ than there is in those games. Ego shooters don't have you worrying about nutrition, disease, gear, and so many other things that make a firefight more than just a firefight. Those of us who want it changing just think the current implementation is crap and needs work, and the devs seem to agree with us. I imagine the people who argue against corner peeking think the current implementation of 3PP is crap and needs work too. You havin' a giggle m8? Protip: You can also see behind you in 1PP, it just requires more skill because you might have a backpack that obscures your view and have to maneuver around a bit to watch your six. Tailing someone in 1PP requires more skill because you might actually lose them instead of peeking over every bush and wall and seeing everything they do. Have you even played on hardcore servers much? -
I like reading stories too, I just think maybe they should be allowed in this forums instead of a separate one. This forum tends to be nothing but whining and story threads make it a little nicer to visit. :)

Arma3 Third person fix mod...thoughts?
DarkwaveDomina replied to OrLoK's topic in General Discussion
For me better mouse movement is needed because the current implementation is shitty, it's nothing to do with other games. From what I can see that's the same argument people are making for a better implementation of 3PP. As for your avatar I was mostly joking around, but I found it ironic because an avatar like yours might usually be associated with someone who appreciates skill over cheesy mechanics. -
Maybe, but I'm not sure what it would achieve other than making this forum look more full of the same old KoS threads and such.

Arma3 Third person fix mod...thoughts?
DarkwaveDomina replied to OrLoK's topic in General Discussion
Even if you did it would be totally irrelevant. What other games do is not the discussion and it's a fallacy of logic. -
Someone knows if the devs have the intention of..
DarkwaveDomina replied to p4triot's topic in General Discussion
I imagine those are known issues but when they will get attention is anyone's guess. :( -

DarkwaveDomina replied to OrLoK's topic in General Discussion
Maybe they should use it for hardcore servers too, then it's fair. ;) -

Like I said, I don't really give a muffins what happens on lamecore servers, but this game is supposed to be challenging and every time I watch a DayZ video it looks anything but when it's played in third-person. As for a game that greys out areas in 3PP, games like Frozen Synapse do it.
