Ultra realism Vs Balanced game design
DarkwaveDomina replied to kermo50's topic in General Discussion
I chose "somewhere in-between" because there wasn't an option for hardcore servers. More server types, more choice, no need to remove things players like. -
I'm always in favour of adding more variety as opposed to taking options away, I have long been in favour of the option for server admins to disable gamma and force certain gameplay-related options. I would play on servers with gamma controls disabled but I don't see the need in removing it across the board.

will Mantle improve the performance of DayZ standalone FPS
DarkwaveDomina replied to gamer222's topic in General Discussion
The game needs to support Mantle. I think what our friend meant is that Frostbite is the first engine to support it. -
It works the same for all players, It is balanced. Use first-person servers then, you just solved your problem. I used to only use third-person, because I didn't want to gimp myself by using first-person on a server where people used third-person all the time, but now I use first-person servers because everyone on one is on a level playing field. I can't say I've seen a single killer argument for why first-person servers doesn't solve your problems. No you want to remove choice. Adding options is better than removing choice, the community is already divided along many axis this is called choice not "fracturing". We have day/night servers, we have first/third-person servers, we have regional servers, we should have servers where gamma is locked (without taking the option away) or servers where the crosshair is disabled (without taking the option away). Stop trying to take options away, you're not the most important player, you're basically crying "stop liking what I don't like!!!" like so many people on this forum.

I don't agree that it screws up balancing or immersion. The player base is already divided (day/night servers, region/ping).
-
I don't mind it. I plan my journeys around mountains and up trails, just like someone would do in real life.
-
These threads are completely redundant since the patch that allowed first-person servers.

Third person view removal from SA discussion
DarkwaveDomina replied to lev's topic in General Discussion
People are really still arguing about this when we have servers with no third-person now? What a bunch of babies. -
Right at the top of the Steam page and in the game description: Leave the game to those of us serious about playing and testing it.

Please add a suicide option, glitched to the back of the church

My sides. Glorious. Please implement this, Devs, and also force-feeding batteries. -
Just catching up to United and Chelsea and beating them at their own game. Don't pretend you don't wish Liverpool won the lottery. :P

Typical whinging Liverpool fan. You sound like Rogers crying about referees.

I dont understand why there is no AUTO RUN KEY!!!
DarkwaveDomina replied to Bohannan (DayZ)'s topic in Suggestions
I tend to jog everywhere and walk when I am tired, I still have to hold W. I still want a key even if you get your wish. -

DarkwaveDomina replied to Bohannan (DayZ)'s topic in Suggestions
Not everyone wants a "play the game for you" solution so that we can leave our character to run across Chernarus while AFK. Personally I would still have my hand on WASD, I just wouldn't have my finger pressed down constantly. I'd probably bind the auto-run key (should we ever get one) to a mouse button so that I can turn it on while I am running and then disable it quickly by manually pressing W. This is how I have bound my perma-walk key. My old finger joints are simply suffering from having to hold down W all the time, I dunno why anyone would object to an optional keystroke that they don't have to use and that won't play the game for you (or would probably get you killed if you tried doing it that way). -

Auto-run is serious business. -

DarkwaveDomina replied to Bohannan (DayZ)'s topic in Suggestions
Some people don't understand the notion of "optional", like how they're still ranting about third person even though we have first person servers now (and I play on them, before anyone starts). -

1. Holding W doesn't make the game more difficult. Tedium != Difficulty. 2. There are times I'm glad "most of the community" don't get what they want. I think I'll be macroing W to my Steelseries Sensei later. -
Ok RPers, lets see your characters you like to play
DarkwaveDomina replied to DevilDog (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Not strictly role-playing, as much as I do enjoy it in other games, but my character fits the "prepper" archetype to a tee with more than a little inspiration from the character of Sarah Connor. I usually won't be seen more than a few dozen feet from some thick woodland, which I will defend with extreme prejudice from intrusive players, but will make runs in to towns or military installations when short on supplies. When in towns I will typically avoid contact instead of engaging players or zombies, it just isn't my element and I'm just there to fill my backpack. -

Third person view removal from SA discussion
DarkwaveDomina replied to lev's topic in General Discussion
Again, you lot seem to assume we like third person only because it enables us to "cheat" you somehow. It seems like a personal problem. My problems with first person are entirely based in fact. The mouse control and movement are abhorrent compared to third person, getting stuck on objects out of your view (like doorways) is a fact. When these things are fixed I would personally not care if you got your wish, but you're not taking away my preferred style of play until they are fixed just to satisfy your "bawwwwww he saw me over a wall, bawww I can't deathmatch against people who are in third person" complaint. -
Eat until you're full, I don't get the messages any more. I don't get greyout from a single zombie hit any more either, do you have any idea how weak you are when you first start?

Third person view removal from SA discussion
DarkwaveDomina replied to lev's topic in General Discussion
C: First person is a mess. You can take away my preferred view when the other is fixed. We're not all relying on it as a crutch, or because we're stubborn. That's a cheap shot. I can take cheap shots too, I think you have pathetic standards if you're masochistic enough to enjoy the glitchy mess that first person is currently in. -
You can if you use a torch instead of gamma. :P

New feature suggestion - "Step over" window frames
DarkwaveDomina replied to Slavaker's topic in General Discussion
I like this idea, but it should only work for window frames large enough for a body. Maybe you could also smash the window, but would bleed out if you climbed through a window with shards sticking out.
