possible solution to 3PP imbalance?
DarkwaveDomina replied to [email protected]'s topic in General Discussion
That would, in fact, be balanced and back in the earlier days of the mod there were servers that had maps similar to what you describe. It was a server option that wasn't actually even popular because it wasn't hardcore enough. Which brings me to my next point, I think some of you are confusing balance and realism. If everyone has equal and fair access to an item or mechanic that is working as intended, that is balanced. Nobody is cheating just because they get the drop on you and use the camera in a way that benefits them. Using that logic seeing someone first is cheating because it gives you an incredible advantage and can make you almost immune to harm should you use that advantage carefully. As for a server option that enables third-person plus some sort of fog of war mechanic if you want, I might even play on it myself despite enjoying first-person servers at the moment, but if you want to take away the current 3PP setup or cry cheating then I'm going to continue calling people out for essentially saying "stop liking what I don't like". It doesn't make sense to call the M4 vs. Mosin scenario cheating because the option is available to everybody. If anything though, following your logic, it's less fair than 3PP because 3PP is available to everyone immediately upon spawning and is only really advantageous to the party who gets the drop on the other or uses the terrain better. -
As was already said, it's an alpha. This means the very core of the game is still being implemented, you were warned about this when you chose to purchase the game. Since you seem to have such an inflated sense of entitlement and apparently can't be bothered reading, enjoy Rust. The player base here just improved marginally without you in it.

It's a good job Steam doesn't go down this way frequently or we'd be up to our knees in deebz1234 rant threads.

I usually run with 2-4 friends, we don't really specialise in any way though because we also like to play alone sometimes.

possible solution to 3PP imbalance?
DarkwaveDomina replied to [email protected]'s topic in General Discussion
You might be making the decision not to "cheat" but the option is still there. You might make the decision to use an M4 instead of a Mosin with LRS, that doesn't mean someone with a Mosin and LRS is cheating if you both engage each other at high range and he hits you in one shot. I completely support a server option that uses 3PP with some kind of fog of war, but to call it "cheating" because you choose not to use it really is, with all due respect, bordering on childish. If I felt the same way you do about this issue I would simply play on a 3PP:Off server until some form of fog of war or other measure is introduced as a server option*. *Emphasis on option, I hate the idea of options being taken away instead of added and this is why I post in opposition to people wanting to "fix" 3PP or remove it entirely. -
Knowing where you are when you spawn and why it makes sense
DarkwaveDomina replied to Jumbaliah's topic in General Discussion
Since standalone launched I have introduced quite a lot of people who never played the mod. After setting up the game, my first piece of advice is always to run until you find a road sign. Works every time. -
This is why I shoot bambis on sight if they're close to me or running my way. Sorry but you'll just have to deal with it, you can't trust them any more.

possible solution to 3PP imbalance?
DarkwaveDomina replied to [email protected]'s topic in General Discussion
But you're always at the same risk of someone using this against you, if they spot you first. That's just how it rolls. To say it's not balanced even though everyone can use it is a bit like saying everyone should spawn with a Mosin and high-powered scope because someone might get the drop on you while you're running about with your fire axe, and you'd never say something like that right? I'd like to note that I have grown accustomed to using first-person now, and play on first-person servers now they have returned to DayZ, but I think third-person is balanced just fine when everyone has the option of using it. I just never would have used it on 3PP:On servers because it's needlessly gimping yourself. -
possible solution to 3PP imbalance?
DarkwaveDomina replied to [email protected]'s topic in General Discussion
I keep hearing about how 3PP is cheating because it lets you see over obstacles, surely that makes gearing up on 3PP servers less safe since every player on it has this easy-mode cheat exploit at their disposal. -
All of my rage. The mag reloading thing really winds me up.

The current system is fine for me but I am sick of doors that open outward and push me out of the way.

Question (not request): when is client optimisation likely?
DarkwaveDomina replied to rickyriot's topic in General Discussion
I'd love some optimisation. Considering my machine, my frame-rate can be abysmal sometimes. Also the last few days running with my friends have been nothing but fighting desync/lag issues where, for the whole night, at least one of us can't see the other players or switch weapons. -

I'd love servers with the option of having crosshairs turned off, just like I did in the mod. As always though I am going to say make it a server option, add more choice instead of taking choice away. -
Being killed by server hoppers ruining game
DarkwaveDomina replied to braiboo's topic in General Discussion
I'm sure they are working on a fix to server hopping but I feel you. Look on the bright side though, if you get the drop on them you sometimes get great loot. -
I wasn't there either, but it sounds to me like they were using the exploit that allows you to see through walls by editing game files. I believe one of the devs Tweeted that this issue is being worked on.

Can you poison Saline IV bags?
DarkwaveDomina replied to CyberVillain (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
I have somehow gotten a reputation among the guys I run with for being a poisoner, I always carry stuff like disinfectant and alcohol tincture. -
Can you poison Saline IV bags?
DarkwaveDomina replied to CyberVillain (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
It's a sandbox game. If I wanted to fill a saline bag full of alcohol tincture and leave it around for some poor sod to administer in to their blood stream, or in the event someone wanted me to bag them at gunpoint, I would love to be able to do that for shits and giggles. -

I'm pretty sure there's no way to do this, though I hope you can in the future! -
Ladders are your enemy here, I was holding a gun for my friend and navigating the shipwreck with two guns was actually like playing a puzzle game.

Why does every person with a gun shoot on sight?
DarkwaveDomina replied to joeymp's topic in General Discussion
I don't kill on sight but it's becoming increasingly impossible to trust anybody, especially new spawns. My friends and I try to be the good kind of bandit people post about, and we usually have a lot of fun and get thanked by our "victims", but at this point we have decided to just kill people that look like they have nothing of value to lose. Story time! Last night I was hanging out in Berezino, waiting for a friend, and I spotted a relatively new-looking spawn with a wrench and crappy backpack running in to the construction site. I lost him inside and didn't want to risk a confrontation on the stairs so I decided to wait for him outside. Two other new-ish spawns, his friends I must assume, suddenly run up the hill so I told them to kneel down and put their hands up while I kept an eye out for the first guy behind me, they co-operated. One of them was clearly British, so I told them I am not interested in killing them and will let them go if one of them sings God Save The Queen down the mic. He was about to do so when I spotted the original guy coming up behind me with an axe in his hands, this guy clearly wanted some of my gear. I put down the guy with the axe, but then one of the other guys starts swinging at me with a wrench so I put him down too and they start whining down the mic about KoS or something, I couldn't really make it out, so I turned to the third remaining newspawn (who hadn't made a move) and told her "you're all fucking stupid, this is why people kill on sight" before shooting her. I didn't want to kill them, but what did I get for my trouble? Let's see. A retarded newspawn swinging a wrench at my back won me: Ruined backpack.Ruined medical bag with full saline kit, painkillers, charcoal tabs, and antibiotics.Ruined pair of handcuffs and keys.Ruined canteens.Ruined (originally pristine) spare red dot optics for my M4.Ruined jacket. Even if they killed me, that stuff would be useless to them, one of them would have won an M4 that's easy to acquire anyway, but they decided to act like mentally defficient psychos, get themselves killed, and have to meet up all over again from random places. When I checked the server list it was actually three players short, so I guess I "ruined their night" and they decided they had enough. Too bad. From now on I'm putting a bullet in all newspawns that are close enough to be a threat. This is why people kill on sight. -
Merino's In-Depth Video Guides (Feb 11th: Updated to 0.34.115106 New Status Indicators, Rebalancing of Hunger, Thirst, Stomach, Blood and Health Reg)
DarkwaveDomina replied to (TMW) Merino's topic in New Player Discussion
Have all of my beans, Merino. You earned them. Edit: I also rated up your Steam guides. -
Like many people have said so far; If a stranger is armed and making no effort to communicate verbally I will kill them, I don't like to kill on sight but in the time I wait for someone to type or put their hands up they could shoot me. Invest in a headset or mic, it will go a long way to establishing at least a fragile trust. You can buy basic mics from something like £1.50/$2.50, I have a crappy back-up mic that clips to clothing or objects and it only cost about £3. As for your story, you could have summed it up with "I ran in to a bunch of idiots". Most people running in a group will use third-party VOIP software or even Steam voice chat, not local, and almost everyone will know you could hear them on local because no mic ! = no speakers.

It's such an old trick that I forgot about it, but I found that turning the sensitivity up on my mouse and setting in-game sensitivity to minimum really helped make mouse movement more consistent. It still has issues but the deceleration is a lot less harsh now.

Ultra realism Vs Balanced game design
DarkwaveDomina replied to kermo50's topic in General Discussion
I support keeping 3PP servers (as 3PP works now) and I play 1PP servers, your digs at people who simply prefer 3PP and trying to make yourself sound hard core are becoming a background track for this board. -
My apologies for beating you to death with a fire extinguisher.
