Charging people money to help you "make" a game....
DarkwaveDomina replied to jBrick's topic in General Discussion
It's already been said many times, but it never seems to be said enough: Nobody is forced to buy it, the game page even warns people not to. -
Played on a 1st Person server last night...
DarkwaveDomina replied to libertine's topic in General Discussion
I almost entirely play on first-person servers and I'm really glad you had fun switching over, I think most people who try it would find that it's a more tactical experience and enhances the fun overall. I know you're not saying you want third-person removed, but I want to say I don't, people who are happy with it should have the option available. -
Raw Mouse Input Is Crucial To Immersion
DarkwaveDomina replied to sidwulf's topic in General Discussion
It's all well and good going back and forth, but there's a bottom line here. Rocket addressed this issue in the latest patch notes for experimental and told us that, sooner or later, there will be a reduction to the resistance against quick mouse movements, but that it's not as simple as just turning it off. He clearly sees it somewhat our way. -
I believe Rocket has said that faeces are being added as a vehicle for diseases like E. coli and dysentery. However, this being a sandbox game, and with all objects soon having physics, you can probably expect to be force-fed faeces or have them thrown at you.
-
I feel for you if it's the only kind of interaction you have had, but I have had some pretty awesome interactions with other players so far in 120 hours of play in the standalone and countless hours of play in the mod. Happy stories are not guaranteed, but it's the reason I keep coming back.
-
I don't know how many interviews you have seen where Dean "Rocket" Hall talks about his game, but he has said numerous times in the past that this is one reason he made it. The emergent gameplay allows us to see how different sides of people come out in a game designed to be stressful and without rules.
-
No problem. I'd recommend watching the rest of the videos on that guy's channel, they are extremely informative. You run faster with your fists out (sprinting) but it currently doesn't make you tired or drain you in any way. The only effect I have seen is that you end up with a blurry screen if you have post processing enabled, otherwise it does nothing to you that walking doesn't.
-
I guess it is a bit weird/creepy or stressful, but isn't that why we play DayZ? It's a weird, creepy, and stressful video game.
-
The speed at which you move currently has no effect on how quickly you lose energy or hydration. That isn't to say that a future update won't cause you to become tired or dehydrated if you run too far too fast.

Will Preventing Server-Hopping Increase Kos?
DarkwaveDomina replied to Grimey Rick's topic in General Discussion
That's justifiable and isn't what people call server hopping. When someone says server hopper, they're referring to the kind of person who jumps from server to server in a high value area just to farm loot over and over again. These people are lazy and probably shit at the game. -
Try looking at it from the other side: I sometimes hold people up and people have had fun in the process, I have been held up a few times and had fun in the process. Sure, it doesn't always go that way, sometimes you're going to lose your pants or be fed disinfectant but that's the risk you run playing a sandbox game. Now, from my point of view, what happens when all the bambis just decide they're not going to be taken alive and try to punch me in the face? I tell them to keep 20 feet of distance or I'm going to shoot them, they decide they have nothing to lose or that they're hardcore so they run at me and I shoot, it's a completely boring interaction compared to what could happen.

Will Preventing Server-Hopping Increase Kos?
DarkwaveDomina replied to Grimey Rick's topic in General Discussion
Translation: I am too much of a coward and too lazy to gear up so I do whatever I can not to actually play the game. Why not just play something like Call of Duty or Battlefield where you can just pew pew and unlock all the items you want, and start with them at the beginning of the round? Because you sure don't cut it for this game. It's not often I say something like that, but you don't cut it, this game is clearly too hard for you and you're objectively shit at it. -
What is the most important skill to learn to succeed in DayZ?
DarkwaveDomina replied to autoloon's topic in General Discussion
I completely disagree, I've had various player interactions recently that weren't opened with a fire-fight. I even had two players save my life, at the NWAF of all places. -
I've had some fun experiences being held up, I don't see why not. If I was unarmed, chances are I've not got anything else very good anyway.
-
I wish. The crosshair dot is still there on hardcore servers.
-
Nobody whips me, if they ignore my warning to keep their distance they just get shot. Ever since one group of psycho bambis tried to punch me to death and hit me with wrenches I just don't take any chances any more, they're all mental just because they have nothing to lose.

Will Preventing Server-Hopping Increase Kos?
DarkwaveDomina replied to Grimey Rick's topic in General Discussion
I don't love the idea of getting in to a firefight just to walk around covered in ruined gear and try to defend myself with damaged mags and ammo. I avoided killing people for my loot before, I will still prefer my pristine-worn stuff and looking for it gives me something to do. -
Only if they get back within the 10 minute window, at which point the body disappears. Also: See my previous post.
-
Don't worry, plenty of us now just shoot every bambi on sight if they come within 20 feet and won't listen to warnings. We're sick of retards trying to go Mike Tyson on us when we just want to help them out or mess with them, I look forward to your "why do people KoS?" thread.

I don't KoS but you can have my beans. -
Raw Mouse Input Is Crucial To Immersion
DarkwaveDomina replied to sidwulf's topic in General Discussion
You say this but you seem to be implying the mouse movement in SA is the same as it is in the mod. I played the mod from the start, I have played 120 hours of SA, I use a Logitech G400S (previously a Steelseries Sensei). If you think there's no negative acceleration or some game mechanic that simulates it, I am sorry to tell you this, but you are wrong and you don't need a mouse like that if you can't even tell. -
Raw Mouse Input Is Crucial To Immersion
DarkwaveDomina replied to sidwulf's topic in General Discussion
This really is the crux of the matter, isn't it. It's all good people worrying about DayZ turning in to a twitch shooter, but what about simple things like looking around, walking through doorways, and picking up items? These things can be a real pain in the arse for me. As the topic title says, it's critical to immersion, I'm reminded every couple of minutes (or seconds if I'm indoors) that I am playing a game, a game with dodgy controls. -
Ideas: Chances of hurting yourself, damage weapons
DarkwaveDomina replied to Sonic-NKT's topic in General Discussion
I like this idea but I had to laugh because my first mental image was of twenty zombies glitching through the wall of a barn. -
Will Preventing Server-Hopping Increase Kos?
DarkwaveDomina replied to Grimey Rick's topic in General Discussion
Rubbish. Almost every bambi I run in to tries to punch me in the face, you could take every bullet out of the game and people will kill each other with shovels and axes. -
I did a thread search and no results: I miss the road flares from the mod.
