TrueGiga: If you use common sense and log out somewhere that 30 seconds won't get you killed, you don't have to worry.

Are these ideas too graphic for the game?
DarkwaveDomina replied to Johnny Depth's topic in Suggestions
I must say again: As this is a sandbox game I tend to support almost anything that falls within the capability of the game/engine, so I support this. ;) -

I think we have already crossed that line, people are already unwilling to risk being shot (never mind something really bad like being fed disinfectant). -
This. Use the menu or drag the new hand guard to your weapon, you can't simply remove a hand guard.

Pending Changelog: Experimental branch: 0.34.XXXXX
DarkwaveDomina replied to rocket's topic in News & Announcements
Have my beans, I don't know why this never occurred to me but it looks like we might end up needing one. Especially so if we ever get hand gestures for things like numbers and commands like stay still, move, etc. http://i.imgur.com/fw4me5j.jpg P.S. Someone mentioned the bug regarding permanent stuffed status, I hope that gets fixed soon. -
Same here, and the logout timer is only thirty seconds so I don't see why everyone is getting so upset.
-
I initially wanted an MMO-style countdown with an abort button but the more I have thought about it the more I realise there's nothing wrong with the current system. If you find somewhere relatively safe to log out, you're not going to be found within thirty seconds. I always log out in treelines, inside the brush of a dense bush or tree if I can, so far I have not logged back in as a newspawn.

Delicious server-hopper tears. They sustain me.

Will DayZ be able to use AMD Mantle?
DarkwaveDomina replied to TheCalyx's topic in General Discussion
People bring this up a lot but there has been no official word. If they do implement this, I don't see them doing it for a very long time. -
Personally I hope the devs make the server hopping timer more harsh, beyond the current maximum of five minutes. The 30 second log-in timer doesn't bother me either, it only happens if you died or changed servers within thirty minutes.

Give something else to 'achieve' in game.
DarkwaveDomina replied to TedZ's topic in General Discussion
As MadTommy said, it's because the game is nowhere near done. It's probably going to be a while until there's even as much to do as there is in the mod. What I like to do is set myself challenges. If I die I might say "this time I am only going to use civilian clothing and items" or "this time I am going to restrict myself to handguns", one of my friends recently came up with a plan to do a "backpack-less run" which I imagine will be very difficult in the beginning stages. -
I don't play on specific servers. Whenever I start up DayZ I sort the list by ping and look for a decently populated hardcore server.

Lootable Buildings are Becoming an Endagered Species
DarkwaveDomina replied to DarkwaveDomina's topic in General Discussion
I'm not having a problem with starving to death, certain buildings really are not spawning loot and the list of good buildings seems to get shorter with every patch. -
Let's be honest we are all killers.. Try your hardest not to lie. Thanks

It's a sandbox game, there is no "right". -
Goodbye KoS = Crafting: Cannot chamber/load magazine with ruined ammunition
DarkwaveDomina replied to crazyandlazy's topic in General Discussion
KoS players don't care if they get loot or not, they just want to play CS_Chernarus+ and deathmatch. -
The Unfortunate Tale of the Dumb Bandit
DarkwaveDomina replied to Tizzle's topic in General Discussion
OP your story sounds quite similar to something that happened to me last night, in the very same place. My friend and I, fully geared at this point, were looking around for something to do and we ended up near Berezino. The server restarted as we approached the city so we decided to bee-line for the office building to check for ammo and secure whatever weapon might have spawned on the top floor this time, as we like to reduce the number of firearms in circulation. As we were hurrying to beat any players who potentially had the same idea we weren't being careful, we ended up with two zombies on us as we sprinted through to the office, my friend drew his axe to kill them on the stairs while I went straight upstairs to see what had spawned. I just got in to the room and saw an M4 in there when I heard gunfire and my friend called out "some **** just shot me without saying a word, I only had my axe out and I was busy with zombies or I would have killed them", I figured they were there for the upstairs weapons so I decided to wait in that room and kill anyone who came up. Someone did try coming in so I fired, to their credit they immediately ran outside on to the roof and tried shooting me through the window, which I thought was quite clever, but my ballistic helmet saved me from their Mosin so I shot back with my M4 and got the kill. I left the room to scout the body on the roof but took more fire so I retreated back inside to maintain a defensible position, I heard a lot of footsteps and for a few minutes nothing happened until I saw someone out the window again, I couldn't get a shot but then I took fire through the floor/wall and was killed. I decided to announce myself on direct by saying "I got your mate, well done" and he responded "that was me, I respawned and came back to loot my body". Well played guy. My friend and I thought it was over, but when I respawned I was right across from the same office on the coast. I immediately ran back un-geared, ran up the stairs and took out my fists only to find two guys sitting on the second floor, one was the guy with the Mosin and one was prone on the floor with an M4. I punched the chap with the Mosin in the head until he was unconscious and retreated in to the adjacent room, only to find I was face-to-face with a guy wielding a shotgun and the M4 guy had followed me in. There was some fire and I punched the shotgun guy in the face repeatedly and knocked him out, surprised that I wasn't dead I noticed the guy with the M4 had left the room (I assume he took the one from upstairs and had no ammo, though I am not sure what happened to all the M4 mags I was carrying unless they got ruined) so I gave chase and knocked him out as well. At this point I was in an adrenaline-fuelled state, laughing out loud in real life at how easy it was to take out a group of armed players with just my fists in a closed environment, something I am familiar with because it's why I simply refuse to trust bambis any more. My friend was laughing his head off too, hearing one side of this exchange. Trying to get some focus in all of the confusion, and surrounded by knocked out players, I figured I had best kill some. I was too pumped to realise that I should take one of their guns, instead I just started punching unconscious players in the head for as long as I deemed might kill them, I think a couple of them died but the guy with the Mosin came to and took a shot. He broke my legs and I was bleeding out but I stood up and knocked him out again. I took his Mosin, but in my state of excitement I forgot to take any ammo, and retreated in to one of the rooms in case anyone else was still around. I chanted on mic to taunt them in to looking for me. Eventually the Mosin guy game round again, persistent this fella', ran in and started punching me to death. I got a taste of my own medicine here. I tried firing at him but, as I forgot the ammo, all I got was clicking and the guy said "you have to take the ammo too you daft ****". Touché. I fell unconscious and was certain I wouldn't spawn there again, so I decided it was time to open direct comms again and tell the guy "well done, you got me in the end, but I got all your mates". Unfortunately he didn't seem as amused by the whole thing as I was, he accused me of cheating and said "we would have killed you easy but you were invisible". I started laughing and told him I must have been desynced or something because I certainly wasn't using any cheats, but he insisted I was invisible and cheating and started calling me all manner of disgusting names. I laughed and told him what I thought of his attitude and respawned before calling it a night. -
I hear the white noise too and it's extremely uncomfortable when you use a headset with the volume up, M4 and Magnum.

Performance improvement - big step into the right direction!
DarkwaveDomina replied to Miquinei's topic in General Discussion
My frame-rate increased significantly when this patch was on experimental and I'm glad to see it has carried over to stable. I now typically get 50-60 FPS in the countryside and 30-45 in towns and villages, depending on their size, but there are exceptions as I dropped all the way down to ~19 FPS more than once in Cherno. It's definitely a step in the right direction though, and the way Rocket talks about it there might be a lot more wiggle room left for further improvement. -
I'd like to agree with those who think we should have the AK-47, purely due to ammo already being in-game.

DarkwaveDomina replied to rocket's topic in News & Announcements
It looks like either the .pbo wall cheat is still in play or we glitch heavily through walls we're in proximity to. My friend and I just got killed with direct sustained fire through the walls of the southern-most hangar at NWAF on UK 4 experimental, we almost certainly weren't seen entering and, if we were, from the position of his shots based on the sound he could have only seen my friend. We knew he was there because he was shooting zombies before he decided to kill us, we decided to stay in cover and wait for him to loot our hangar. My friend took sustained, low-rate tin-sounding fire through the wall, I took similar fire for around seven shots of which three connected and killed me. -

Why do you always talk shit and talk to people like they are stupid in the same posts? I see you do it a lot. -
You told me to go watch the "Friendly!" video, I have seen it before and I'm not convinced that player was 'hacking' (even if they called themselves a hacker), it looked like they were using a lagswitch and not traditional cheats. What you describe though is nothing like lagswitch and I haven't seen any evidence of the old DayZ Mod-type cheats in standalone, they are one reason standalone was developed in the first place. I simply suspect that you added the "and he was a hax0r!" part to embellish your story. Without that part, it's just a boring story about you shooting some un-geared players and thinking you're hard.
-
I said "you sound like", not "you are". You're the one who said "hold-up-random-newspawns-at-gunpoint-so-we-can-give-them-some-beans" and I was directly addressing it, if you don't like being called out for making generalisations then don't make them. It sounds like you're interested enough to me, to have this exchange and to repeat the same stereotype.
-
No I'm addressing the generalisation that seems to be made multiple times in this thread, that people who decide to go and interact with bambis are the type who chase bambis around and force them to accept gifts at gunpoint. Not all of us do that and not all people who decide to help bambis do it to inflate our ego, some of us are just bored. I take a gun with me, sure, but it's for my protection and I only point it at bambis if they make threatening moves.
