Is it better to travel with your gun in your hands or on your back?
DarkwaveDomina replied to omgwtfbbq (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
If I have a long firearm I always keep it in my hands, if I only have a sidearm I keep it hidden in my clothes simply due to the disadvantage with range in a lot of situations. This goes back to an incident some time ago when two friends and I were travelling from Dubrovka to Krasnostav. We were following the road north when we got to the part with the petrol station. We crested over the hill with our guns in our hands when, out of nowhere, come three well-geared and armed guys just running down the middle of the road in the opposite direction with their guns on their backs. They clearly didn't see us at all, probably because we were jogging on the grass instead of on the road, and being at the front I saw them first so I warned my group and immediately told these guys to put their hands up. It was the first time my group had run in to another group of totally even numbers and fire-power at random before. Thankfully they decided to co-operate, they had probably just come from NEAF and likely weren't in the mood to lose whatever they found in a fire-fight so soon, we asked them where they had been and if there was anything left further north and such then we let them go on their way. Had the shoe been on the other foot there's a high probability they would have KoS, our weapons not being on our backs made every difference. -
Did you adjust your FOV? It can help, if you use a widescreen display the default setting is awful.

Using the word western in your context is fine for your list. Remember, you responded to something I said that was not directed at you and I told you what context my post was in, so that should really have settled this discussion. Were you really so desperate for the "last word" that you only replied to me in order to needlessly insult my intelligence again? "Please do some research in the future"? Please get over yourself.

How come the NW airfield is just about the safest place on the map atm?
DarkwaveDomina replied to naraga's topic in General Discussion
It's because you usually spawn on the east coast nowadays. People seem to bee-line for NEAF and the death-trap ship, or they get caught up deathmatching on Elektro/Cherno/Balota. -
Why would you do that? If you use a 16:9 display then the very middle of the slider is correct, it shows as 1.3333333 horizontal in the .cfg files. Your game must look like a fish bowl view of the world.

Don't take a tone with me like I'm stupid. In the context of my post, which you replied to, I was using "western" to describe the so-called western world.
-
The FNX-45, Colt Python, M4, Blaze 95, and Ruger .22 are all western. I give you that the Ruger is an exceptionally popular weapon worldwide, but as it stands not even half of the weapons are Russian or eastern European.

After hotfix: Constant server restarts or disconnection issues?
DarkwaveDomina replied to -MadTommy's topic in General Discussion
This does tend to happen for a while after the maintenance. -
I loved the Winchester but at this point we're at risk of being over-run with western guns.
-
People who server hop and combat log are not even playing the game, ergo they are not testing anything. Furthermore when someone makes a thread about how the new mechanisms are unfair or unproductive I question their motives, without exception.
-
I agree with StreetsForRent with regards to distance, with direction though I always do superbly even with my cheap-o headset.
-
You won't get any argument from me, I even made a thread about it. :D
-
This explains so much. <_<

I tend to think of loot as mostly being what survivors left behind, not what was left before Z-day. Like you said, I imagine soldiers and such rallied at fire houses, and they might have taken off their pants to eat or wash, or have had surplus lying around as supplies. :P

i had the "flickering items bug" since the beginning
DarkwaveDomina replied to brumey's topic in General Discussion
I know what issue you're referring to but it's not actually the same one, the issue that's affecting a lot of people right now is with regards to items flickering in the inventory as opposed to attachments on your gun disappearing depending on the camera angle. I did forget about that though! -
Game is completely unplayable right now.
DarkwaveDomina replied to nvrsbr's topic in Troubleshooting
WARNING: THIS GAME IS EARLY ACCESS ALPHA. PLEASE DO NOT PURCHASE IT UNLESS YOU WANT TO ACTIVELY SUPPORT DEVELOPMENT OF THE GAME AND ARE PREPARED TO HANDLE WITH SERIOUS ISSUES AND POSSIBLE INTERRUPTIONS OF GAME FUNCTIONING. I know, I'm a bit of a dick, but it really needs saying and if it was not me then it would be somebody else. Keep an eye on the patch notes threads in the Announcements forum, they will add it as a known issue if and when it becomes a priority. Also please consider making a bug report. -
I only want to play with rain, solution ?
DarkwaveDomina replied to TimM1983's topic in General Discussion
Rain seems not only to be random but also client-side, I have been running around in the rain recently while my friend right next to me saw nothing but sunny skies or a bit of cloud. Personally I can't wait to experience an in-game thunderstorm as it looks amazingly atmospheric in the videos I have seen, it reminds me of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. -
Is Spy Infiltration wrong ethics/cheating
DarkwaveDomina replied to Dragor69's topic in General Discussion
I never fail to laugh at people who call VOIP software "cheating", when I can whisper or use a full range of hand signals in-game maybe I'll consider only using direct chat. -
Can some one take a pic of "the piano house "for me please I don't know which one
DarkwaveDomina replied to ttt2512's topic in General Discussion
This, it's the one with green bits all over it. -
anyone finding pistol red dot sight anymore?
DarkwaveDomina replied to commanderbash's topic in General Discussion
I could easily be wrong but I suspect they fiddle with the loot tables so that we test the more recently added stuff. I am always up to my eyes in SKS rifles. -
Lootable Buildings are Becoming an Endagered Species
DarkwaveDomina posted a topic in General Discussion
Edit: The specific examples in this post are obsolete since Wednesday the 5th of February. The experimental patch has now transitioned to stable. With every patch we are seeing casualties among the types of building that produce loot. With the latest patch on the stable branch the most noticeable example would be the grey garages[1], cars, and the upstairs floor of various buildings (most noticeably the green houses with the porch). With the latest patch on the experimental branch it seems to be various houses[2]. These places absolutely, certainly spawned loot before but now seem to be barren. Many buildings, such as the cabins, have not spawned a thing since Standalone was released[3]. I know loot rarity is being constantly adjusted but I am not sure that is the issue here. I am fully aware of how alpha works and how everything is subject to change or is potentially a placeholder, which is why I have mostly ignored this issue for the time being and assumed it was because the developers wanted to disable certain loot spawns while they are re-balanced. Unfortunately Rocket himself has said some things in live streams (his Q&A, and his Teamspeak chat with Sacriel) and forum posts that lead me to believe he doesn't know which buildings spawn loot at all. In his own live stream he spent a lot of time trying to loot buildings which simply do not. I have an enormous amount of respect for Rocket and his project, but some of his information with regards to which buildings spawn loot is demonstrably false and I am not the only person to have noticed it. If Rocket isn't sure which buildings spawn loot, are we sure any of this is a known issue? Sometimes I see a patch note mentioning a known issue with regards to one kind of building, but there are at least half a dozen types of building that come to mind immediately which aren't mentioned. I know it's not a critical issue, there are things I would rather the team spend their time on fixing than this, but I feel the need to bring it up due to the evidence that this issue doesn't actually seem to be recognised at all and is getting progressively worse. [1] [2] [3] Addition: Magodark22 has taken the time to screenshot and post quite an extensive list of examples of rooms (and some entire buildings) that simply do not spawn loot any more. You can find the thread here, if you find it informative and hope for it to be fixed then please give him some beans.- 52 replies

Lootable Buildings are Becoming an Endagered Species
DarkwaveDomina replied to DarkwaveDomina's topic in General Discussion
JudoPunch thank you for bring up the issue for discussion on Reddit and for making a bug report, I would have done the latter but I simply had no idea how to use the bug tracker at the time. I do now however. -
Pending Changelog: Experimental branch: 0.34.XXXXX
DarkwaveDomina replied to rocket's topic in News & Announcements
I have maximum respect for Rocket but I'd like to echo your concerns about him not knowing his own game, I even made a thread some time ago about which buildings spawn loot because Rocket himself seems to have no idea. It's good to see him playing the game, hopefully he will get more insight in to some of the issues that we encounter every time we play. You won't get any argument from me, but as the team leader I think Rocket and the game would benefit from him playing it and getting a first-hand view of the process. A bit of a helicopter eye view you could say, seeing the overall progress. -
This game. And the people who play it
DarkwaveDomina replied to Slyguy65's topic in General Discussion
I don't get why some get so upset by people deathmatching around Elektro/Cherno, I just avoid those places. More loot for me, and when I do run in to people in the wasteland I tend to have more friendly encounters than I would with the idiots running around with no pants shooting everyone. -
Usually my primary concern is inventory space and my secondary concern is camouflage (whether it be rural or urban). Sometimes though I get a little bored and I set myself a challenge that I'll only wear civilian, casual, "friendly" clothes and equipment the next time I have to start over.
