Pending Changelog: Experimental Branch: 0.42.116002
DarkwaveDomina replied to rocket's topic in News & Announcements
I don't suppose we should hope for patch notes? -
A couple of quotes from Reddit is not at all representative of the community, and I think it's clear to everybody here that you're trying to start something by bringing baggage from another thread in to this one. I am simply calling you on it and saying you should stop stirring.

How many of you find a handgun before ever finding a rifle?
DarkwaveDomina replied to jubeidok's topic in General Discussion
I sometimes like to do "pistol-only runs", and it makes me sad when I run past ten long rifles before picking up a revolver. -
I don't remember any such thing, but I do recall a lot of people being upset that they made zombies give and take much more damage despite them still ghosting through walls and having ESP. BIg difference. Stop stirring.

I dont understand why there is no AUTO RUN KEY!!!
DarkwaveDomina replied to Bohannan (DayZ)'s topic in Suggestions
I used to walk and jog everywhere when standalone was still new, before players like Merino confirmed that it has no effect on thirst and hunger. I got along just fine sprinting across open terrain (which I avoided a lot more) and when hearing gunfire. -
Griefing winds me up, but I never saw any KoS players complain about this in the mod nor in this game. You're just trying to add fuel.
-
You might need to adjust your FOV. The default setting is not remotely sensible for a 16:9 (720p, 1080p etc.) monitor and, assuming you are using one, you will want to click twice to the right and centre the slider. This used to be a common problem with Source engine games.

Post what sounds you feel need to be added to the game
DarkwaveDomina replied to helcol's topic in General Discussion
I'm probably exposing myself as a freak here, but after the new chewing sound was implemented I did catch myself listening to the sound of myself chewing food "in my head", and it sounded quite a lot like the DayZ chewing sound. I think it's one of those sounds we usually tune out and don't even hear. -

I actually hope that if/when energy and hydration are linked to activity, walking will be a more common thing and sprinting will only be used to dodge gunfire. -

I'm not buying the "hyper-realistic tone" argument whatsoever, holding down W does not make the game in any way more realistic or more difficult, only more tedious. There's a huge difference. As for resources, it should not require much effort at all to add an auto-run key, and effort should be expended on implementing realistic stamina and tiredness as well as linking activity to hydration and energy (currently these things are not in any way linked, which is clearly not intentional). -
Will this custom pc be able to run DayZ?
DarkwaveDomina replied to themanofthehour3561's topic in General Discussion
If I had a penny for every time someone said this when discussing computers. A 120GB SSD leaves enough for a quite few games, I used to use one before I put it in my laptop and replaced it with a 250GB Samsung. I'm only sitting at 125GB used now and I have tons of games installed, naturally I keep stuff like films and music on a different disk. -
Welcome to the DayZ forums. :D

You might not like people who murder willy-nilly, I rarely murder people for no reason in this game and tend to look down on people who grief, but I don't like the idea of telling them to get out of DayZ. Even though it's taken to a ridiculous degree in this game, there would be people who choose to kill indiscriminately if law and order fell apart.
-
The problem with these general terms in their current use is that they don't really fit their definition. Banditry implies a thief, it doesn't exclude murder but the emphasis is on robbing people, which certainly is not killing on sight. KoS (Killing on Sight) doesn't really fit the profile of someone who looks for firefights either, because they don't always immediately kill someone on sight. The community has some really skewed ways of describing things sometimes.
-
I don't consider banditry and murder to be the same thing, even though I've done plenty of both. Regardless, I agree that it's part of the game and wouldn't like cheesy mechanics in place to artificially limit it, and thankfully so do the devs as it's been said in public many times that they'll never try. I would. KoS is just senseless murder. I murdered someone for being Scottish the other night, but even that still wasn't KoS. (Sorry Scottish guy, it was a moment of madness and all in good fun.)

There's a reason hardcore is called "hardcore" and regular is called "regular". ;) :D

Fresh spawns complaining about KoS
DarkwaveDomina replied to maninthewall's topic in General Discussion
We need to stop kidding ourselves here. There's only one reason to do this, and it's to kill. Unless they're genuinely new to the game, even newspawns only stay on the coast to get involved in the deathmatching these days and probably don't want or need your help. We all do it, there's no reason to deny it, but there's also no need to make threads complaining about either party. -
Fresh spawns complaining about KoS
DarkwaveDomina replied to maninthewall's topic in General Discussion
I assume most newspawns are dicks who will try to troll you or knock you out. Unfortunately for you OP I consider anyone armed running towards Berezino to be a dick too. It sounds like a meeting of dicks to me. -
Please fix night time on experimental
DarkwaveDomina replied to scaramoosh's topic in General Discussion
Yeah I know it's being worked on, I just really think the rate at which people immediately abandon a server will drop when we have the same stuff we had in the mod (barring NVGs and such). I used to run in to quite a lot of players on night servers in those days, and while it was common, they didn't all just crank the gamma up like they do now. -
Post what sounds you feel need to be added to the game
DarkwaveDomina replied to helcol's topic in General Discussion
A new female breathing sound, one that doesn't sound like it was recorded on a mobile phone. For months girls had a male breathing sound. They then got a female one that sounded fine. Now they have a new one that sounds crap. -
Please fix night time on experimental
DarkwaveDomina replied to scaramoosh's topic in General Discussion
I actually agree. I say this a lot but I used to really enjoy playing at night in the mod, as it stands now though it's just not worth it. I feel people will start to enjoy it when there are flares and such, and hotkeys for weapon flashlights, but for the time being it sucks to be stuck with that crappy torch and gas lamps. -
I agree that the dot makes these things easier, but I don't think keeping the dot is the solution. The way picking up loot and opening doors works needs fixing properly and hopefully they'll do so quickly if (or rather when, since it's confirmed) they remove the dot.

It's purely a matter of personal taste but I tend to turn off 3PP videos unless they're comedy videos. If I want to watch a pure gameplay video I tend to find 3PP ones boring because it's all corner peeking, with comedy videos and such though it's more like watching a Machinima. Agreed on all these counts, though I do disagree with this one: A player with a good sense of their surroundings and utilising cover properly will find it easier to get the drop on you, assuming you're not better than they are at doing the same and making sure your position is secure. In the end it's an equaliser that boils an encounter down to your wits against someone else's. Sorry. :P

They already said they're going to remove it soon. :)
