Rocket standing down from Dayz by end of year
DarkwaveDomina replied to Hetstaine's topic in General Discussion
Why? Development is not stopping, only one man is leaving. You're... I wish I could say what you are, the mods would not like it. -
Rocket standing down from Dayz by end of year
DarkwaveDomina replied to Hetstaine's topic in General Discussion
I don't recall Dean ever saying he was going to make DayZ his life's work. My only concern is if the other ~30 developers continue to deliver. I said this to you in the other thread, but you don't seem to listen so I'll repeat myself here: Those ~30 developers on that team are not a skeleton crew, I played the mod bad when Dean himself was the only person working on it and that was a skeleton crew. If you think the developers are going to suck so badly without him then why are you still playing? They've been doing most of the work since before standalone was launched, this game is just as much their work as it is Dean's. When are you leaving? You expect the game to "GO OFF THE RAILS", when will I stop seeing your inane drivel? -
My friend does something really funny when he comes across another gun
DarkwaveDomina replied to helcol's topic in General Discussion
I do this too. The less guns in circulation is only good news to me, so long as I have one. ;) Oh god, another one I do. Am I paranoid? -

How much did you research this game before buying it? Permadeath a key, core concept and will never go away. -
If you think that you might as well call it quits now, they've been doing most of the work since before standalone was released. Is this goodbye? Please tell me it is.

Rocket standing down from Dayz by end of year
DarkwaveDomina replied to Hetstaine's topic in General Discussion
I am one of the people supporting Dean on this issue so you're basically speaking for me there, allow me to reply: Actually if they were abandoning the project I'd be pretty fucking mad. Good thing they're not abandoning the project and your wild comparison is not relevant at all, isn't it. -
That basically sums up how I feel too, and I mentioned it in my first reply in the other thread. Dean's talent lies in being an idea man, he came up with a great idea and had the guts to see it to market when most developers and publishers wouldn't even dream of spending a dime on a project like this. That's why we end up with so many COD clones and other shovelware, and why the most innovative games often come from indie developers (and I say this as someone who hates most indie games, generally speaking). I have been quite critical with regards to his hands-on management of DayZ, sometimes quite harshly. I actually wish him luck back in New Zealand with his own studio because his ideas are generally great and I want to see what else he can come up with, I completely trust the rest of the team to keep fixing and adding to DayZ in his absence. The game is going to be finished without him, this is what some of you people don't seem to understand. They're not stopping development in 10 months just because one man leaves, those ~30 other people have been doing most of the work since before standalone was even released.

That depends, if it goes under after he has left then it can't really be anything to do with him and I will judge whether his future games seem like they're worth the money as I do before I buy any game. If the game goes under and it's a demonstrable fact that Rocket sent it under, I of course would be sceptical (just as I am toward EA and Ubisoft). I must say, however, that I don't think this game will go under. It's a niche game, not only that but it's the origin of this particular niche and now it's one of the most copied games out there. The dev team that will be left after Rocket's departure have already been working on this game since before standalone was released, I think they're doing a good job and hopefully the game will last many years because I like playing it.

Like I just said, I have been one of his vocal critics on this forum recently. I even had a mod reply to one of my complaints as if I were being out of line. Call me a fanboi all you want, not everyone who disagrees with you is a fanboi and if you think otherwise you have some growing up to do.
-
I didn't even notice. I talk too much. :|
-
I kinda' suspect he does, I have been one of his most vocal critics on this forum over the last few weeks due to how I feel about his streams and such. (Cue pacific_coast having a brain aneurysm over the fact that someone who criticises Rocket is also respecting his wishes to leave the project, thinking we're all just fanbois.)

Rocket standing down from Dayz by end of year

You played a £19.99 alpha you were advised not to buy for 188 hours and you feel scammed? I would get a warning from the mods if I said what I think of this forum's users at times. -

Wild speculation. Your post didn't need its own thread, what makes you think this trash was remotely that important? -

Nothing you have said there detracts from my point: It's in Dean's interest for the game to keep selling. Frankly your posts are getting tiresome, I can't be the only one who thinks so. You're more than welcome to say the same of mine, but at least I'm being rational. -
It's nice to see someone who understands the mindset of the perfectionist in this thread. As I said in my first reply perfectionists are often considered borderline crazy, it's not unheard of for an artist to slash up a painting that other people think is a priceless work of art. Just be glad that Dean is choosing to move on instead of "slashing the painting" and canning the project, he's leaving it in safe hands for us to enjoy.

Actually I'll be treating those games with the same level of scepticism I do with every early access game, thank you very much. -

It's in Dean's interest that this game keep selling well, he forfeited his rights to the profits when he sold them to BI. His income from DayZ now comes from royalties, which work on a per unit sold basis. -
Why putting heart attacks in game makes no sense
DarkwaveDomina replied to Rick1633's topic in General Discussion
I'm still pretty certain that guy was being trolled by admin messages, not once have I had any of those warnings on experimental after sprinting all over the place. I have speculated that the heart attacks will be tied to shock levels and triggered at some critical level, at which point you're probably already unconscious anyway. -
Can we have Chernarus offline for sorting fps out please!?
DarkwaveDomina replied to UNDERWORLD's topic in General Discussion
Indeed, a couple of patches ago they had a line saying that we got a 10-15 FPS increase client side due to optimisations made purely on the server. -

Leaving it in the hands of ~30 people he trusts is hardly abandoning it, calm down. -

This. Rocket has repeatedly told us he only even released standalone in December because we were constantly asking when it would be out, he didn't even want to release it. All these "take the money and run" people are ignoring history. Not only did he not want to release it yet, but BI own the rights to the game now and the profits, his income from the game now comes purely from royalties (which means it's in his interest that the game keep selling more copies). He said outright in that article that he'd rather do something else. He feels he can do better so he wants to go home and open his own studio in New Zealand, it even says he has ideas for something like five new games. Dean is an idea man, it's his main strength. His strength was never the development and he's said as much himself on numerous occasions when he pokes fun at how much he breaks the game when trying to fix bugs. -
I don't fall in to the trap of forming conspiracy theories. I believe what he says, or rather that he believes what he says, when stating that he thinks he's done all he can for DayZ and that he wants to form his own game studio back in New Zealand in the hopes of making the perfect multiplayer game. Sure, he has made a fortune off selling DayZ to Bohemia, anyone with financial sense would have done the same, but don't forget how long he worked on the mod and didn't make a penny.

People are running around like a headless chicken, the forums are practically in meltdown with the sheer amount of doom and gloom posts.

Frankly you insult my intelligence and my maturity by making such a crappy, personal response. I am not emotionally invested in DayZ, or any game for that matter. I knew I was taking a risk when I paid £20 for an alpha but I knew what I was getting. I have sunk nearly 200 hours in to the game (10p per hour) and many more in to the mod, and while I would be sad if it suddenly broke down or disappeared I have certainly got my money's worth and would move on to the rest of the games I have been neglecting badly due to this project. However I don't think the game is going anywhere, he's leaving it in the hands of the ~30 people who have been working on it since at least Standalone released, he clearly trusts them to carry the torch. DayZ is just growing up and moving out of its mum's basement. I meant exactly what I said in my post, otherwise I would not have said it.

Not at all, but I understand perfectionists and most people don't. I made a post referencing what he said here.
