who else is excited about the recent tweet from rocket?
DarkwaveDomina replied to mjf6866's topic in General Discussion
I don't think you have to worry too much about the order of priority, the people working on graphics issues and the people working on server stability are probably entirely different teams. Both will be ironed out in due time, I am sure. As for the FPS reading I use a combination of Fraps and MSI Afterburner but I only use the latter when I need to monitor GPU utilisation, I plan to switch to it entirely though but I just tend to launch Fraps by accident out of sheer habit. I don't think I referred to you as ignorant, by the way. I definitely called you a douche, but not ignorant. ;) -

I can play the game in lower resolutions too and I did test it at 1080p, unfortunately one of the symptoms of this issue on my ghetto rig is that most of the graphics settings don't actually change my FPS at all when I am in the specific situations that cause it. Including lowering my screen resolution, unless I lower it to something silly like 720p. Naturally my first thought was CPU limitation but overclocking my CPU yielded not even 1 FPS improvement, so I just don't know. The only thing that literally seems to matter in that situation is object detail, but putting it on very low still only gets me from 18 FPS to 23 FPS in Vybor. -

That put me right in my place. Now I feel just awful about having enough left over from mine to buy a 1440p IPS display. -

Sure buddy. This guy's "ghetto rig": i7 4770k @ 4.0GHz, 2x GTX 780 Ti SLI, 256gb Samsung 840 Pro SSD. http://youtu.be/9ssjr36NKTE And you say that like your machine is even anything special for gaming, you're hardly using that i7 and 16GB of RAM. I'll never understand why people overspend like that unless you're operating a gaming channel on YouTube or something and have to encode your videos quickly. Also, what makes you think the people working on this have anything to do with the people working on server stability? P.S. Just to be as much of a douche, I don't happen to get character wipes so it must only happen on pleb rigs. ^_^ -
How does playing with players in different areas work?
DarkwaveDomina replied to tigersrule777's topic in General Discussion
But 80-90 ping is pointless when had the option of getting more like 19. Thankfully Dutch people are bros and tend to speak good English too. -

Compromise. When I played with Swedish people we ended up playing on Dutch servers. -

I had to go to bed abruptly last night because I didn't realise I was on here until 2am. Did anybody get to visit Vybor? -

It would really help if you did, it's my #1 most annoying spot alongside Stary. If it helps this is also the location and direction I used for testing: It's like the only setting that makes a difference to me there is object detail, very low it's 26 FPS and very high it's 18 FPS. I even tried practically maxing the game out with similar results, my maximum FPS around the countryside was really the only thing affected (from 60-70 FPS down to 30-40 FPS). Yeah this is one I try too, on my 760 I make sure I set it to 2GB instead of auto. I have also tried using the startup switches via Steam to manually set all the appropriate memory and CPU optimisations but, when it comes to Vybor/Stary/Cherno and others it doesn't seem to have an effect for me. -

I build them for profit and take care of my own as well, I don't think this is machine-specific at all unless an i7 is some magic bullet. Which in gaming, we both know it is not, and doing a 20% overclock didn't adjust my framerate even by 1 and this has been confirmed by some very well-known posters around here such as Hetstaine. Even doing this tonight on my machine alone, I have seen 15 FPS on one test and 30 FPS on another for seemingly no reason in Elektro. I thought it was because of the empty server but my last test in Vybor threw this out of the window. I simply have no idea, hopefully Rocket's tweet indicates that they do and hopefully it will be fixed soon because it honestly keeps me from playing as much as I'd like to. -

I was using your settings and resolution when I was in Elektro. I actually get no difference in my FPS anywhere with ATOC on trees or off, it's quite weird. Also guys, I just went back on my main character in Vybor where I get the most lag, even on an empty server it was still 18 FPS with object detail up and 26 FPS max with object detail on very low. No other settings seem to be affecting it again, nor does the server capacity as this one was literally 0/50 when I jumped on. Edit: And just to sew more confusion I was still using my GTX 580. These are the specific, absolutely exact framerates I got on my GTX 760 last night. Can't explain this at all. All I can say is that whatever the circumstances do cause this slow-down, even if you claim you never see below 30 FPS, Rocket's tweet shows it's a known issue. -

My usual settings are 2560x1440 with vsync off, texture settings on high, all the main settings on normal, AA on normal with ATOC on all trees and grass, AO off, edge smoothing off, HDR low, and all post processing and motion blur off. With these settings I tend to get 18-23 FPS in certain towns (especially Vybor and Stary) but 60-70 FPS in the countryside. I did a lot of experimenting last night and tonight, changing every setting (including lowering the resolution) doesn't seem to do anything in those towns. The only setting that really helps at all is turning object detail down to very low. A friend of mine with a very different system replicated the same behaviour. We usually play on servers with 50% capacity or more in terms of players, and we also prefer experimental servers in general. -

Messing with my .cfg produced less than desireable results. The typical tweaks that get thrown around here don't really do anything but reduce certain in-game settings to very low, even if they don't show in the menu. e.g. Normal for object detail is 500,000 and half these random tweaks call for something closer to a fifth of that, it's performance increase at the cost of making the game look like Operation Flashpoint. What sort of server load? I tried your settings again on an almost completely dead server and got similar results, yet while I was running around on a full server dodging gunfire it was 15fps. -

Caboose: I went to where you were in Elektro and I was getting 15fps with your settings, I also switched AO off as you reminded me. I was on experimental branch, not sure if that affects anything, and the server was packed because experimental always are. I was using my 580 for this because my 760 is currently in a box, but I typically get the same frames on both no matter what. So either your i7 is the magic sauce, which I doubt, or you have some neat .cfg options and startup switches I don't. P.S. Turn that post processing down, it's horrible. :P P.P.S. Running around checking FPS while under fire as a bambi is pretty funny. Yeah 15fps for me, horrendous. Edit: I just went on an empty server and got much better FPS, almost double. More like what Caboose was getting but slightly less (580 probably). -

I'm still running to Elektro, I gave up trying to get a good spawn with this timer. :P -

I'm going to Elektro myself if I can get a good spawn (regular mode so I don't feel guilty for suiciding so much), I'm also using your settings but I will turn AO off. My stock mobo settings do not use turbo, 3.3 is the load clock. Manually increasing from 3.3 to 4 did nothing, I was going to go higher but other people reported the same lack of any performance increase whatsoever when overclocking their CPUs. -

Caboose do you feel like running to Cherno? I recognise the areas in the first two pics but don't recall if I had this slow-down there, and they're hardly dense areas. I understand if you don't want to because it's not exactly a short trip just to get some screenshots. -

Nice picture but I'm just stating facts. The game doesn't utilise the vast majority of your RAM, nor your SLi. In any number of other applications your system would be far superior to mine, but in DayZ? Practically lesser unless there's some evidence an i7 gives that much of an advantage, and i7s are not known for producing drastic improvements over i5s in gaming applications, never mind the fact that I saw no FPS improvement whatsoevever by overclocking to 4GHz (over 20%). -

I know where that office/school is, I wasn't born yesterday. There's only a hospital and a couple of buildings, and the dock, between you and the sea. -

No offense mate but you're looking at the fucking sea, are you trying to pull my leg? It's well known that looking at the seaboard boosts FPS if you don't have a full town in view. What do you get looking in to and around the town, I'd especially love to know what your FPS in Cherno is because I definitely get around 18 FPS there on my usual settings. I never spent time in Elektro so I couldn't say. -

DarkwaveDomina replied to mjf6866's topic in General Discussion
It isn't because DayZ is a pure 32-bit application. Not only will it not use over 4GB RAM, it's taking your VRAM in to account too. On paper, because we're taking your SLi out of the equation, you're running this game with less grunt than I am. -

So when I get 18-23 FPS in Vybor, and my friends with very different rigs also get 18-23 FPS in Vybor, and when Rocket has acknowledged this issue exists and is being working on, are we all imagining it? I even overclocked my i5 to 4GHz just for the people who claim it's CPU limitation, and it didn't affect my framerate whatsoever. As far as I'm aware SLi doesn't even work properly in DayZ, and it definitely doesn't use anywhere near 16GB of RAM. If this is correct then, apart from your loli7 which is not really any better for gaming, you're running less grunt than I am. -

I'm not calling you a pleb, but there are plebs out there who simply don't notice and think "20 FPS is fine I don't even notice, the human eye can't even see more than 24 FPS". Like I said, I am not calling you one of these plebs, but maybe you just don't notice? -

If I use all minimum settings and force 720p resolution I get a slight boost, we're talking mid-30s here. It seems I'm doomed to 18-23 FPS in certain towns. It does also seem to be certain towns, not all of them. Vybor is one of the worst, as are Zeleno and Cherno, I have had mixed results in Pustoshka. -
Experimental Servers for AU, Please.
DarkwaveDomina replied to djporternz's topic in General Discussion
40 new experimental servers. This is seriously about time even though I'd gotten kind of used to the two UK hardcore ones being rammed, and I'm really happy for you poor sods down under because I know what your pings are like after hearing from mates who live there. 40 new experimental servers, wow. -
I support this, God Save the Queen. (Please post in the Standalone forum.)
