Nope. I don't care if someone robs or murders, I do them myself sometimes. I just get sick of people calling KoS "banditry", it's nothing to do with it.

When I run with my friends we use my TS3 server. Other solutions we tried in the past had too much delay or, in the case of Steam voice chat, was simply not reliable due to the servers knocking you off all the time. Mumble simply didn't like my hardware for some reason. Another benefit to TS3 is that you can use Overwolf to overlay channel info and controls in-game.

The game has built-in VOIP within a short distance locally (everyone can hear it). Edit: It's probably also worth noting that the quality leaves a lot to be desired.

Authentification Timeout (Steam Down ?)
DarkwaveDomina replied to topper harley's topic in General Discussion
DayZ uses Steam's VAC as well as Battleye for anti-cheat. I could be wrong about this but I also think the server browser is done via Steam. -

Come back Steam. -
Who needs a cramped middle "w" finger?
DarkwaveDomina replied to makomachine's topic in General Discussion
That's a neat idea, I might try that one as well. :D Nah I essentially use move toggle at this point instead of pressing W most of the time, I only bother holding down W if I know I'm only covering a short distance (moving around the interior of a building, crossing a street, etc.) or if I am in a combat situation. Having gotten used to doing it this way in MMOs I'm really bloody quick on that toggle now. ;) -
Who needs a cramped middle "w" finger?
DarkwaveDomina replied to makomachine's topic in General Discussion
I always enjoy these threads, it's funny how hostile people are to something that doesn't affect them in any way. I would love an auto-run option in the game but for now I use "methods" to toggle W with a keypress. I don't use it to play the game for me in any way and it doesn't detriment my ability to respond at all, yet somehow people are really hostile to this. I have pretty bad arthritis in some of my fingers, frankly your whining and your feelings about legitimate gameplay are infinitely less important to me than aggravating that condition and causing myself severe pain when I don't have to. -
Okay, my turn to complain about stable branch updates.
DarkwaveDomina replied to PhillyT's topic in General Discussion
That's fine, but trust me, if they pushed the current patch to stable today you'd want to play even less. After half an hour of the items disappearing out of your inventory or taking a whole minute to switch items while three zombies spawn right in front of you over and over again you would be right back here and even more frustrated. The reason experimental gets more updates is because they're not finished. -
Not enough experimental servers...
DarkwaveDomina replied to Mukaparska's topic in General Discussion
Yup, when there are only four servers with a decent ping and they're all 50/50 it's more like The Hunger Games than DayZ. There are plenty of complaints about this, but apparently a couple of guys in this thread have no problems playing so there's no reason for the devs to tell us why they took down 40 or 50 servers last week. Yeah, if this were stable and I simply wanted a server to play on, I would just hop on one with 150ms ping or whatever. Hell, I would just play on stable if I was only interested in playing and not actually contributing. It doesn't help you look for items or certain areas of the map causing huge delays in your inventory or perfoming actions when your ping is crap though. -

DarkwaveDomina replied to PhillyT's topic in General Discussion
If you knew how messed up the current build on experimental is, you really would not be complaining about this. Why don't you hop on experimental for yourself and tell us how badly you want it pushing to stable? -
Not enough experimental servers...
DarkwaveDomina replied to Mukaparska's topic in General Discussion
When I filter for 0 ping the only servers with a decent ping are the UK and German ones, and currently there's something wrong with the German ones for me because they seem to show 0/50 and you can't even get on them. It's all well and good saying "just play on one with 150 ping, it's only testing" but the lag in the current .42 update is so bad even with 30 ping that I want to be able to see what situations cause me to get it. Either way, none of this really answers why they put an extra 40 or 50 servers up only to take them down again with no notice whatsoever with the latest update. As for the edit you made, I want to agree with you but I think the more people on it the better even if most of them are not using the feedback tracker. Server load and stress is a big part of these tests as the dev team gain a lot of useful raw data from it, as well as people doing a huge variety of different things across many servers in the same period of time. Also, a lot of those who don't use the feedback tracker might at least come on the forums to complain about something that's seriously broken so the devs can get some sense of priority. -
Not enough experimental servers...
DarkwaveDomina replied to Mukaparska's topic in General Discussion
When the experimental servers are all 50/50 you can go ages without finding any loot, there's enough complaints about that in the experimental threads. Now personally I don't care how much loot there is, let the server hoppers hop, it's only experimental anyway. I just want to actually be able to get on because I'm probably one of the few people who actually uses the feedback tracker, as opposed to most of the other 50/50 on the very small amount of servers who probably don't even know there is one because they want to just play with the newgunslol all the time. -
Not enough experimental servers...
DarkwaveDomina replied to Mukaparska's topic in General Discussion
There is no such thing as "too many experimental servers" IMHO, unless they are empty. The more people testing the latest build, the more feedback there is before it goes on stable. Since stable only updates what, once a month, I don't see a problem with those big patches being more polished. Right now the .42 patch on experimental is an utter mess, it can only benefit from more people reporting problems before all the people on stable complain about how horrible it is they "waited a month for this ****". -
Not enough experimental servers...
DarkwaveDomina replied to Mukaparska's topic in General Discussion
There is no such thing as too many, but there were a lot more than that prior to the current update as they added 40 or 50. That list being much shorter than it was last week. I'm genuinely happy for you if you had no trouble finding space, but I only have four servers available with reasonable pings and they are 50/50 right now. (I was just on one for a short time and it was laggy as hell, but that's the new patch for you.) -
Not enough experimental servers...
DarkwaveDomina replied to Mukaparska's topic in General Discussion
Yeah they did, and they're all gone for me. :( I doubt I'm the only one having this problem either, as the four UK ones I see are all 50/50 pretty much all the time. I did just try setting my ping filter to 1000 but I still only see the same 8-9 servers, it's weird because I am not even seeing the Swedish ones any more. That isn't really the point of this thread. They added 40 or 50 servers to experimental a short while back and now they don't seem to be up any more. -
The only icons I miss are the ones that tell you how loud or visible you are, but since zombies seem to have ESP and see through walls now it's totally irrelevant. I'm voting for text when it comes to the other things, it simply feels more natural to me that my character is thinking things to herself.

Not enough experimental servers...
DarkwaveDomina replied to Mukaparska's topic in General Discussion
I was actually in the process of searching for threads or posts about this when I found this thread. Before the last update on experimental there were many servers, the ones they recently added, but using the same filters as before I only only see four UK ones (two hardcore, two regular), four German ones (same, and always 0 players), and a single US one. -
Establishment of Background Lore for DayZ - Essential
DarkwaveDomina replied to Katana67's topic in General Discussion
Oh god, another thread derailed by pacific_coast? Well, what's new there? For someone who hates the game so bloody much and is convinced it'll be abandoned eventually, I really wonder how you have racked up over 400 posts since the second week of January. That's dedication to your trolling and whining right there. As for the actual topic: In the period while standalone was in very early development, but before release, Rocket did say a few times that there would be clues as to the origin of the infection and that eventually players would find a lot of things in the world to come up with their own theories and such, but I am not sure he ever said there would be a specific backstory. I'm fine with this because it would retain the feeling of being a stranger to Chernarus who just wound up here with no memory or sense of familiarity with the place. -
OP why did you think this deserved its own thread? Murderers are ten-a-penny in this game, I think most people suspect murderers are in the majority even. Also yes, I said murderers, what you do is absolutely nothing to do with banditry so please don't go throwing that word around.

Very curious about choice of gender.
DarkwaveDomina replied to DesertSage's topic in General Discussion
I have always been curious why people care what fictional game character someone picks. I have always found that funny. Why does this question come up so often on video game forums, and why does nobody care if girls play as guy characters? -
I want them but I can wait.

Them tweaking sounds with every patch. Memorable ones for me including the infinite reloading Mosin sound, the deafening white noise revolver sound, the punch-swishing noise that carries on 10 times when you stop punching, hearing zombies almost 100% of the time everywhere I go currently on experimental?
-
It really doesn't seem like it sometimes, that's me putting it nicely.

DayZ Sound Design Test - Part 3 Final Added
DarkwaveDomina replied to fortran's topic in General Discussion
Those videos sound amazing and frankly I don't see why SmashT felt the need to tear down people's comments. Sure, maybe it's not as simple as doing what the OP did, but in 3.5 months all we really have is an absolutely stupid "swishing" sound that plays 10 times when you stop punching, or the deafening white noise you get when you log in with a revolver in your inventory. -
I'm just glad female characters don't make male breathing noises and say "fuck, that hurts" in a weird German accent any more.
