Consolidated Weapons/Equipment suggestions
Abaddon (DayZ) replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
M1A1 Tank altered to: Be reloaded with looted rounds (rare spawn) Be repaired as other vehicles Treads take damage from high caliber rifle rounds (AS50, m107) rendering tank immobile Slightly higher percentage chance of AT rockets and launcher spawn? The idea about the tank is that server hosts could choose between spawning choppers or spawning tanks. The tank would have to be made more vulnerable to certain weapons, but the fact that you can't guard it 24/7 sort of guarantees that no one will keep one permanently anyway. Camouflage Tarp/Structure to cover and hide vehicles. Seriously, the only annoying thing about choppers is the fact that sooner or later one is going to wreck your camp. Firearms are covered up and down in this thread all ready. If tanks or vehicular camouflage were mentioned, I didn't read those posts and apologize. And please don't implement a massive amount of melee and improvised weapons. It just seems too easy for these ideas to become comedic and shatter the tension and bitter seriousness of DayZ. To me, the mod's biggest success is in taking this genre seriously when no other devs had even half way considered trying it. -
bigger and stronger zombies in nort
Abaddon (DayZ) replied to =IMS=facekick's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
And it's like you've never watched a Romero movie or read Robert Kirkman's The Walking Dead. In good zombie fiction, the infected become a part of the setting for the story. The characters become the important part, and the people against them are always the real danger. And really, it doesn't matter how dangerous the zombies get in DayZ, because the other players will always be more dangerous. That said, I hear that COD has an online MP mode that features zombies that get stronger the longer you play. Oh, hey, and the players can't even shoot each other in it, can they? Maybe you should check out COD and leave DayZ behind. -
bigger and stronger zombies in nort
Abaddon (DayZ) replied to =IMS=facekick's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I say no. The danger should come from other players, as it does now. I understand how adding variety could make the game less tedious to some, but it would ruin the immersion almost as badly as hackers to me. One of the biggest attraction for me to this idea and mod and eventually game, is that it's relatively pure to the film, comic, and literary fiction on the genre. -
Too many hackers to the point of not even worth the time to play?
Abaddon (DayZ) replied to Downside's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
This. My group had over a dozen vehicles a few weeks ago. Most of the crew was running end game gear and we'd put a heli together on day one of the update. Then we got into a few helicopter vs helicopter air fights. Steam rolled by some guys in a black SUV. Lost the majority of our vehicles to grenade launchers and hacked helicopters. Hackers just shoot to shit any end-game play, especially if you're playing in the same server regardless of population. -
why only 1 chopper at a time?, the one with the chopper owns the server.
Abaddon (DayZ) replied to 1anton12345's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
My crew had a chopper once. We actually got into an aerial battle with a hacked in chopper just north of Elektro. Was not as fun as you'd think. We survived it though, got the chopper out safely... only to have it stolen a few days later. -

To the hackers on US128
Abaddon (DayZ) replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I reported it and ditched the hacked weapon. Things have gotten so much more dramatic since this thread was started. Next time you kill a hacker, Lnxa, you should tell them that they're awesome players and that you can't believe how lucky you were. -
Logged in after a server restart to US 128 in Texas today, found that my inventory was messed up and I now possessed an AS50 TWS + loads of m107 ammo. I did not check to see if my backpack was messed with or that my DMR was still intact. My NVG, GPS, and range finder were still there, but other than a quick glance after realizing what weapon I was holding, I just logged out. I brought it up in this thread: http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/51781-to-the-hackers-on-us128/page__st__20 Wherein there is other discussion of hackers in the server US 128. Their admin suggested I make a post requesting an inventory wipe. If I have to lose EVERYTHING, no big deal. I'd gained most of it from a camp I'd found a short while earlier anyway.
-
I dropped the TWS under a tree in the middle of the woods at night. The server resets every 4 hours. If someone finds it, that's on them. Another thing I'd missed in my hurry to get out of that server earlier was the fact that my backpack was completely emptied and that my m9sd was replaced with a 1911. Hopefully, that's the end of that. There's so much crazy crap going on in that server now.
-
I'm going to attempt to re-enter a camp I'd found and replace the gun with something legit. I still want to be on record saying my side of what happened in the event that someone wants to throw accusations my way. I have not fired the gun let alone killed anyone using it. I've been told that I can't get in trouble for _having_ a hacked weapon if I wasn't involved with the creation of the weapon... all the same, the gun was taken out of DayZ for a reason and I don't want to have it.

To the hackers on US128
Abaddon (DayZ) replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
More trouble on US 128. I rejoined after a server reset moments ago and found my inventory edited. I lost an mk. 48 and dmr that I'd just found in someone's camp and had it replaced with an AS50 TWS and several mags. I immediately logged out. I have no idea what to do with the gear and feel that screenshots of my inventory would be redundant. The only thing I did was take a shot of the server pool. -

You mean MY tractor, right? The one I flipped like a boss. I rarely ever see you UBCS guys on. You play early mornings or something? -
US1169 ADMIN ABUSE RESETTING SERVER
Abaddon (DayZ) replied to toxin232323's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
The dude's not an admin on that or any other server. Whatever happened had nothing to do with anything he's able to do. Hopefully whoever does admin US1169 can step forward and clear this up for you. -

Abaddon (DayZ) replied to phresh (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Yes. Please change this back. I'm sick of engaging multiples and watching some guy DC right in front of me only to get shot by him three minutes later from behind. There's too many people who think it's okay to play this way. -
How do you change your ingame name....
Abaddon (DayZ) replied to Jasmer's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It's out of the player profile stuff in the Arma2 menus. I was unable to edit the name of my default character, so make a new one and rename that one. This won't change anything in DAYZ for your character, but you may have to redo anything you changed in the game options and server filter fields. -

1.0.6.1 Horrible frames per second
Abaddon (DayZ) replied to sgt.mazer's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
32-bit here and my frame rate has plummeted. -
I'm kind of against melee in the game. I think it could get super cheesy and way too easy if it's not implemented perfectly. The way I see slower zombies working out is that they're only an immediate threat if they're within three feet of you... giving the player the advantage in that range has way too much potential of just ruining the tension. Just imagine playing at night with one hit kill slow zombies that are attracted to light. Think about the duress that would put any player under. Light is all ready a magnet for PK'ers, but if it's slowly creating a death clamp on you in every town you enter... I'd like to see the infection from a bite and the inevitable turn. I think it'd be interesting if it could be crafted just right. It'd give players the opportunity to scramble for a tent and try to hide their gear. It'd also give you a really entertaining opportunity to hide the bite from your companions and manufacturing player created drama.

I support the post directly above me with only a few additional notes and one spot of disagreement. Look, the more that's added about environmental hazards, the slower we have to play, and the more we're stuck in one location longer. The addition of cold, the necessity of fire and hunkering down in buildings to avoid rain and temperature loss have all made it necessary to stop for shelter for moderate lengths of time. This addition alone makes the slow zombie viable at very slightly larger, if not present numbers. I agree that the slower zombies would absolutely have to have an increased ability to sense players. I agree that they absolutely have to be head shot only kills. Where I disagree is with anyone that says they shouldn't OHK. The only reason I can sympathize with the notion that they shouldn't kill with one bite is how glitchy their movement is at present including their ability to walk through walls and closed doors and spawn right in front of you. Minus those bugs; however, I feel that the slow zombie that kills in one bite puts more tension on the player than the current sprinting ones. I know that I'll never match the eloquence of the above poster, so I refuse to even try. But the one and only problem I have with fast zombies is that they inject furious moments of action into an otherwise slow and calculating experience. When I encounter another player, I have to immediately evaluate a number of conditions to decide on what I should do. Should I avoid? Should I approach for team up? Would it benefit me more to just kill this player? I want the same thing with the zombies. Right now I approach a city, I go prone, I weave through and the only other factor regarding them that I have to take into consideration is where is the nearest enterable building for me to run to in the event of one of them going aggro. What I'm saying is that I think it could amount to a more thoughtful experience when having to interact with the zombies, but it's also possible that it could lead to a less enjoyable experience. I'd at least hope that Rocket would consider experimenting with the idea since everything else he has added is forcing the player to think on their feet and to have the flexibility to adapt. I'm also not saying that the game is too hard right now and I want easy zombies. I grew up on the old Romero rules. We're faster than them. We're smarter than them. Severe the head, destroy the brain. Bites are a death sentence. I've never had a game replicate the experience of trying to survive that... and this game is the closest chance I've had to date. I'd like to try it, even if it's just in a temporary patch that gets reverted in a week.

Is anyone else seeing a dot on their maps representing themselves? I've recently been seeing both myself, the friends I travel with, and other random players near me marked on my map. Survivors and Bandits show up as a blue dot with a direction arrow out the front and a label of "Survivor" or "Bandit". Occasionally zombies appear on the map as yellow icons labeled "Man". When I first started playing, I didn't notice this. Now, however, I'm worried that a friend and I have inadvertently picked up hacked gear. I'm posting in the new player forum because there's the obvious possibility that I'm a newb that missed a patch update or legit reason for this to be happening.
-
Ah, thank you! It just seemed wrong after struggling to navigate with my poor map reading skills only to one day find out that my map is now a GPS. After hearing about a number of people banned for hacking, I thought I should ask about it.
-
Also, you can walk up to them and middle mouse wheel to the option to "pick up" and you'll carry it. Don't really recommend carrying flares, but chemlights aren't so bad if you're roaming through the woods or something.

More zombies is great, but I'd like to see the spawn density tweaked. Ideally, I'd love to see very high numbers in the big cities (or any location with higher chance for rare loot), and much lower spawns in small villages and random buildings strewn about the map. In my head, this would promote teamwork to gain the best gear, but also give noobs and lone wolf players more forgiving locals to loot in and survive. I'm new to the forum and the game itself, but right now the lowest risk form of looting I've found after ten hours is hunting lone bandits. I know I've got to get better at the game before I complain, but even so... The above is how I'd like the game to develop.
