Yeah, I think those two should have been seperated too. I would have picked "Only if someone attacked me first". -
White Flag? Ceasefire? (Stop KoS)
CLewis replied to SwitchBlayd's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I agree about the useing reality as an argument is a bit tricky. You kinda did it yourself with "magical force". I do think it's ok to use when you want something in the game made more realistic though. It is however used by alot by the "stop QQ'ing" people, to shut down every single suggestion being posted. Wich usually makes the "QQ'ers" use it as a counter argument. Both sides use realism, or the lack there off, to back their argument. And just for the record, I'm very pro realism. The more real, the better. (I do like more than one life, so not that real). -
@insaner I think you'd find that very few on these forums wants everyone to be friendly. What most of the "carebears" want, is the thrill of not knowing if someone is friendly. Actully being able to help/ be helped by strangers. Have some sort of interaction with others without it resulting in death. As it is now with the KoS, everyone knows that being friendly will get you killed. Metagaming shouldn't be the only way to solve the KoS. This is atleast how I see it anyways, and judging by the threats I've read, I'm not the only one. @FrankDaTank I've been thinking that too, but in one of the youtube interviews, Rocket shows/tells they are planing to make it possible for people to uploade their stats on a website. Unfortunately...

White Flag? Ceasefire? (Stop KoS)

It might be an idea to, instead of the no friendly fire agreement, you had the option to identify yourself. If both agree to this, a small form of icon/name or something would show when you look at that person. The distance of id'ing each other could be between 50 to 100 meters or so. Once both had agreed the icon would show for "x" time. This would meen that you could recognize someone you know or have met before. How far away you should be able to recognize someone would be maybe a bit longer then the first meeting. This would benefit groups/clans as much as the loners. It would also meen that you would know if someone has dobblecrossed you before. Considering that in real life you are able to recognize people you know/ have met this isn't really a "gamey" solution, and I think it could work without to much QQ'ing from too many. (The distances should be balanced through trial and error, by devs and us alpha-testers). Just an idea. Don't know if it's even original, or if it has been suggested before. Commence the flaming... -
White Flag? Ceasefire? (Stop KoS)

If you have to take a sarcastic quote, of a sacastic statement and try to turn it into a non-sarcastic statement as some sort of "victory", then you're a very special person. You take that "victory", big guy, I'll buy you some coffee later m'kay? (Yeah I removed the smiley, I'm to old for that shit). -

And actually learn to shoot with every weapon you find (snipers? c'mon). There are no longer weapons all over the gooddamn place. Crash and die every time you try to fly a Heli (if 0.1% of those who play this game can in real life, I would be surpriced), if you manage to get airborn. Multiple lifes. You make no sound when you talk (direct chat). Engines in our backpacks. The list of these gamey mechanics is loooong... Most of the "stop QQ'ing" people in this forum have a very selective view of what is gamey, and what isn't. -
"(the people who dislike banditry are seriously outnumbered as well) and the number of people that would stop playing this game if banditry was removed or altered to the point of not being fun is far more significant" That is still a claim in my eyes. I never said the OP was right about the mod failing. You can easily call this mod a succes, both number wise and "Rocket's dream" wise. probably in other ways too. So at this point in time it's not failing, but to say it isn't in the future is a qualified guess, but a guess non the less. Agreed. The who would you shoot thing, I'm backing out of. I don't think we'll ever see that the in same way. And It's one of those thiings You and I could discuss to the end of days...(pun intended)

@itputsthelotion I probably play the harder game of the two of us. Alone. No 3dp. No crosshair. And how do you know what I want? You got "zinged", because you said something incredibly stupid. -

Trading high-tier loot for good intel on {CQF} operations

Clans created outside of the DayZ world. Are these not a result of metagamming? Seems a bit selective reasoning to me... -

"Sorry you may have been a friend, you just weren't worth the risk"
CLewis replied to Gogster (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
That's an extremely negative view on mankind, and I strongly disagree. Some people are dicks in real life, but far from everyone. Most are dicks in DayZ, but it's a game with little to no consequences for being a dick. -
Stop fixing minor issues or call it 'BETA' !
CLewis replied to L0G!N (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
A lot of the fixes being done, are performance related. New stuff can only be added, when the performance have been improved. I'm pretty sure I heard that somewhere. Stop telling people what to do, to cater to your needs. -
This might be one of the best arguments I have seen on these forums. Not sarcasm...And beans!
-
I don't disagree that there are situations where most would defend them selves. But you would shoot a guy walking past you, who hadn't even seen you? Can you actually kill with 1-2 shots, as in are you good with guns? Are you good with rifles and even larger weapons? Would you watse the few bullits you had? YOU might be good with these weapons, but I highly doubt the majority is. And the guy is was responding to used the "realism" argument, and thats was what he would do.

My thoughts on: In bold: Supposed to resemble, is the key here. It really doesn't mean that playing this game/mod/simulator gives any indication to what would actually happen. In cursive: Please tell me you would just shoot everybody on first sight. In this game there are no consequences if you kill someone, in life there is. In this game there are no consequences if you miss and get killed (only inconveniences), in real life there is. I know you said who jeopardises you, but should we go from this game, that's everyone. Underlined: Dude...What?!?! EDIT: I guess your saying how it is now in the game. I read that wrong. My bad...
-
In bold: This is true for every succesful company, and every buisnessman. You don't get rich without screwing people over. Sad but true. Underlined: I don't really know what to make of this. My WTF was because it seemed a bit out of context to talk about what should concern us. If someone can't afford a pc game, they probably don't need oil/ gasoline. And if we really should be concerned about something, money shoulden't be first on that list.

Asking to see some stats of one clame, and then clame something else without stats? (Your clame is probably right, if it's about people who want banditry all gone, but OP does not want that.) Saying The mod isn't failing at this early point of it's development could be premature. Right now its blowing up, I now that. But weirder things have happend, than a seemingly succes failing in the long run. (It looks like it'll be a succes to me too, but who knows?) Agreed...

Humans are the enemy in DAYZ not the Zs

Dude!!! You messed that up! You are supposed to call him carebear, and then he should call should call you CoD-kid. Then you both throw in some no-no words. You turned everything upside down. Damn it! -

The general idea of promoting/rewarding teamwork is fine, and I'm sure that the devs are working/thinking along those lines. I think the hard part of making this work, will be to get strangers in-game to work together. If all teams are created in the forums and between friends, then nothing really changes. KoS would still be as it is now. -
Try looking at it this way: If it makes dying suck more, then we are closer to the thought of permadeath. Dying is meant to suck balls...
-
I agree in general about what you are saying, but your approach to this problem is way of. If you want some actual feedback, then don't start of by alienating everyone.

You should post bugs in the bugs forum. Oh... And please don't expect an alpha to be without bugs.
