Will we ever be able to sneak up on someone and take stuff from their backpack?
georgiapeach replied to Xenolian's topic in General Discussion
that was a very good game mechanic which made the game more open and i wish it comes back. I was stealing whatever wherever i could. had only medium succes rates (on 3rd and 1st person) but never shot anybody with his own weapon though. i love stealing wihtout the victim knowing it. i do not like to knock people out or handcuff them, it is not the same. if you know your inventory you will notice soon enough. with the old inventory "system" it was not so easy to play with peoples minds because when you missed something most of the time you assumed the gods of chernarus may have took it ("my backpack ate my $whatever"). with the new inventory system and all the new stuff there are quite some possibilities ... -
In Support of a New Vanilla Hive

Bring back da Hive! would be willing to pay but that would depend on the model/structure of the whole project. the character which mattered most was vanilla 1st person for me. *sigh* -
Has Anyone Else lost Faith in Dayz?

after the post by hicks i feel the need to say that i am talking about he whole experience thing and not just the game and its development state itself. i never ever fellt that bugs, missing content or anything would destroy the game itself as long as the majority of the player base had a certain kind of culture/same interests. it is the mix from the community and the game mechanics which produces results for me. the community/player base has changed so dramatically and the SA has developed to this majority that a gamer like me just does not see where i could fit in to have my kind of fun. i doubt it but i might belong to an absolute minority? i like it as hard as it could be, much more then most people could even imagine. the buggy mod deliverd that at times which i did not experience since the beginning of gaming (i think a lot of younger gamers can not imagine how hard most games used to be in the old times.) and there is the problem, if this is a minority thing and the majority just wants to shoot and make dick size comparisons (which is generally ok. i mean CS1.6 started the complete esports thing due to that human behaviour and i still love CS1.6) then i see not how my experience can change very much wihtout a drastic change in the gameplay/mechanics. before i start to write long philosophical essays about gaming and how it changed over time and where dayZ fits into this (in a language i have trouble to communicate in) i will make it short: hype kills creativity. always. -
Has Anyone Else lost Faith in Dayz?

i am pretty much in the same boat as mutagen_7b4. i bought the SA as soon as it came out even though i knew it might never be the game i loved so much in the mod. i paid a tribute to BI and the peoples involved in dayZ with buying the SA and i still think it is ok (i could afford it at the time so no regrets here). when i saw the vast amount of new military loot spawns after i first logged in i felt my concerns were right. this is not the direction i wanted it to go. FOR ME the SA has nothing to do with dayZ at all (from a gaming experince perspective). and i do not see it coming out as dayZ at the end of whatever they call the way to develop this. it does not trigger the emotions, excitement, anger or anything as dayZ did. last week at work during a smoking break we talked about gaming and a guy from another company heard me describing chernarus as a harsh environment (i talked about dying by doors, stairs, rocks, trees, tents or whatever in the good old times). the feeling i got when he said he just played SA never dayZ was: sadness and a bit of compassion. he talked about the new patch and stuff so i did play last week for the 1st time since weeks/months and lost interest again after about an hour. SA just does not feel like dayZ and i think it never will for me. so yes, i lost faith in a way, but i did not have much for the SA to begin with. i will check the SA from time to time just to see if ever something good comes out of the zombies dev team. i will never forget dayZ as part of the best gaming experiences i had in a long life as a gamer. i do not regret buying SA and i am quite happy that i supported BI which makes great games and even better mods possible. i started to check for other mods/missions/games in the ArmA universe and have a lot of fun there (originally i bought ArmA 2 to play Project Reality). if million of gamers enjoy the shit out of SA i am quite happy for them and for BI for their succes but it is just not my cup of coffee anymore. time goes on and the gaming world changes and i will live with it. i just hope the dayZ hive problems get fixed so i can go to chernarus from time to time. -
run fastest withe knive: checkduckjump: check mousefeel: check grenades: throwing physics in, flash missing yet we need an AK and somebody to put dust2 into chernarus somwhere...

Hi, I would like to have a serial number on every weapon. The number should be unique and visible somehow. e.g. the Mosin has a visible serial number but it is not unique. I hope this would be possible but I am not sure how difficult something like this would be to implement. I searched via search engine and used the search from the forum. Could not find this suggestion anywhere. If I did not put enough effort into the search and this is an old story I am sorry and I will try to do better next time.

Hi, not trying to ride a dead horse but i somehow missed your question. I did not write about the purpose cause i thought it is pretty obvious. It would give things (here guns) a history and builds/deepens the relationship to the player to certain individual items (here guns). There are so many possible ways where i can see this having an effect. I will list just a few thoughts cause i think this is dead already: - famous guns (maybe even possible to track stats over the guns then) - recognition of an old gun of yours when finding it on other players or get it by a friend - awkward serial numbers may be valued just for fun (1337666) - foundation for attributes for guns not viewable (e.g. blaser95 with serial numbers 0 - 100 are more durable/accurate or can mount a certain attachment while later models can't) - bonding with your gun for a reason the devs like to introduce unique items in a global hive system (like 2 NVG or whatever rocket has in mind). the guns are already very important items for many survivors and a serial would give them a bit of a personality. i had some guns which were more to me then just the mean for the next kill. i had a winchester which was a trusted buddy in quite some shootouts which i really could not let go for better arms till i died and i still remember where i found it). there is a dayz feeling/way to think about things in game which i believe this would fit in perfectly. i understand that this is more of value for actual survivors cause only over time a story can develop. i could care less about the codkiddies but even for this kind of "gamer" i could see benefits. i hope this shows that there are a many reasons why this would be cool (the implementing issues aside for a second).
-
Yeah, that would be too much. But maybe there could be other ways to show it like through inventory menu or inspect weapon action.
-
no i did not. it is your very own opening post you seem to have forgotten already and you were to lazy to check again what you wrote. my quoting has format issues but is absolutely correct. the topic is discussed over and over and there is even a sticky about it but you needed to make a thread of your own out of it. this whole thread is useless like the dick of the pope but i wanted to call that paradox.
-
does not make sense. and then you have the audacity to say: plz stop talking about frankie talk about the content of my post...". so you are watching and refering one cheater and complain about other cheaters cheating in the videos of the one cheater? paradox?

Do Zombies Dream Of A Good Nights Sleep? (Zombie feedback)
georgiapeach replied to SmashT's topic in General Discussion
Had my first encounter with the patched creatures. Looks like the Zs finally arrived in the game. Don't they dare to take them away again (at least not to soon if they really have to). - killed about 20 Zs and saw none spawning close to me - killing some with a gun but only 2 came running (Gvozdno is too small for that i guess). - killing them with the axe is easy (as long as you keep the number low), the tips from here and the other threads are working fine - was hit 3 times, no bleeding, not much ruined (if any), i guess there is karma involved - running away is easy; breaking the line possible? (trees worked or it suicided out of sight) - i saw at least 5 Zs in my short span of play suiciding (from roofs) or falling to death downhill - the new town in the north is cool, the Z spawns are still missing - the are FRIGGIN fast uphill now, will surprise the people living of the hills stealth mechanics and decoys next would be highly appreciated. pretty sure new spawns have a very rough start right now, maybe it is a good time to be nice to them and help a little if need be. The 1st real progress i can feel in the gameplay. A small step in a good direction. -
Hi, nice summary/ideas. Maybe it is enough that Zs move their head (direct the "cone of sight") to the noise if loud enough. So if a Z hears an aggroed brother he looks in the direction of noise for a few seconds. I like the idea that they can alert each other somehow things could get out of hand fast.

Do Zombies Dream Of A Good Nights Sleep? (Zombie feedback)
georgiapeach replied to SmashT's topic in General Discussion
Hi, i am confused now (at work so i can't check by myself). Are the "new and dangerous" Zs the ones i saw in the experimental built a week or so ago? I played after the Z respawning was introduced and my reaction was more like:"... oh well, they respawn now but still they are lame." all the whining and enjoyment let me doubt that those are the Zs everybody is talking about. maybe the oldtimers remember the 1.7.7 fiasco where you could not play and test enough before the Zs got nerved down again and never came back to the mod as a real threat. i get hyped now to hear there might be real Zs which alter the gameplay or is it just the new players "whining" cause they never experienced Zs as a threat at all? damned i cant wait to test it....let me know if it is worth to become hyped... -
i do know that. that is why i do not complain about anything. i understand what patches schould/could do and what happens when they hit the real world.
-
uhmm? it was not meant to be a complain. i even said something along that line i think. just my feelings during the last patches. i am not a native english speaker so the wording might be wrong and gave you that impression?

quote: "It was great while it lasted...for a whole week!" yepp, same feeling i had. me and a buddy had some of the greatest time in this game this last week. he stopped playing dayz some time ago and went to wasteland. i told him that the 1.7.7 is really something different so he gave it a try. it was great. the server we played on got patched. we reconnected and after 10 seconds the feeling was gone we had with 1.7.7. the world is totally empty (due to the missing wild Zs), feels so sad to just run through the wild without taking care again. i understand that now there are new bugs and this and that will be changed again and so on. i understand that 1.7.7 had issues which should have been adressed as will be done with 1.7.7.1 i assume. this is not meant a s a complain. i just tell you how i feel. for some players who see the dayZ experience as something different to (almost) all games they played before this it is just hard to swallow for the moment. we saw the light with 1.7.7. if the ammobug could be fixed (this is one gamebreaking bug!) and the safezones removed it would have been damn good to play for some time and to tweak it from there. so i hope the dev-team will follow their ideas and vision and do not take the "critic" (which is a very nice word for some of the posts on all sides i have read in the last week) too hard cause people are emotionally involved with dayZ. and that is something good i think. !exxaggeration! you gave us a cool new toy to play with and took it away after one week to break it. @Razor et al: you better bring our toy back or i'll go tell it Rocket

Thank You dev-team! The first impression of the new patch looks very promising to me. I may need quite some more time to make an assesment if loot is to scarce (or antis or guns or whatever) or infection rate to high. How come so many people have so strong opinions in such a short time (like: this HAS to be changed otherwise I or a million others stop playing)? The whining had the effect, that we already know about a second way to deal with infection. Let us play a little while to see how all sorts out and if there is stuff which needs to be balanced or adjusted. The experiences i had in the few hours i could play since release of this patch gave me already some great deja-vu to the old dayZ. You need to scout the movement of the Zs, think hard if you really risk to go to the loot you see/expect and be very carefull when approaching areas (lying virals behind the houses or in the sheds? GREAT IDEA! Feels like a booby trap with Zs.). Might be not for a long time when we all figured out the new holes in the system, but for now it looks promising. The virals are great, the 1st one i saw was in a forest (btw great job whoever made them. the one which looks like Stuart Pearce is a new model?). Spawned 10 meters away from me. Man what a moment of fear that was when i realised this is one of the new ones : ) If i might express a premature opinion at all: Get rid of the old Zs and give us only the virals. I have full trust in the dev-team and the community that if something is really out of balance in the long run it will be adressed somehow. As it always has been. Thank you again guys for this reborn dayZ which made me think a lot how the game changed over time.

i would also like to have a more sophisticated ecosystem. cause the survival aspect of the game is quite fascinating, it would be great to have even more connectivity with the environment. nothing against the food chain idea but to have a better effect it would need some kind of predator-prey model. - a simple predator-prey model with the survivors as predators part the map in areas (habitat, population) or calculate per animal. you could have areas where animals are almost extinct (with a cap for the minimum) and areas where you would find game more easy (with a cap for maximum). thus, if you want to hold out in the woods you might have to move areas from time to time or find a way to manage the game which is available. same should be true for fishing. there are models out there which could be simplified as much as needed and still it could create a better sense for the ecosystem you want to survive in. - how about if the environment give you hints if it is a good area to hunt or not: tracks, damaged plants, turds are good - decomposing animals and such are bad? - more differentation of fauna and flora: would love to see roe deers maybe even with the possibility to keep the antlers and put them on a car or backpack or whatever. - some birds may make a noise (like jay or crow) when they see you moving or making too much noise (just bad luck that the jay gave away your position, while you were trying to sneak around the guys at the tent : ) - maybe even some predators like wolves, foxes or even a bear (not necessarily effecting the predator-prey model). i do not want to turn dayz into "deer hunter Z" or something, just keep it simple. but some small tweaks could have quite an effect in my relationship to the environment. i enjoy the stuff which is in already and appreciate that it is possible at all to hunt and feed yourself from nature. a big THANK YOU for that Rocket et al.

Best vehicle idea to connect main cities [called 'Drezyna']
georgiapeach replied to No Interleaving's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
i love this idea. sooner or later someone will make a transport business with schedule, prices and what not i'll bet. cool would be some new tracks going inland with railway switches you could really use. -
Suggestions for the DayZ standalone - thinking outside of the limitations of an Arma 2 mod.
georgiapeach replied to ruarz's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
i would like to have cult items so i could start/participate/fight in all kinds of weird cults. the items should be unique (more or less) and you should be able to place them prominent (hang on a tree, put on a stone or whatever). some examples just to show the direction: - a cross or icon found in a church - modern day marketing stuff (advertising sign, small giveaway) maybe found in supermarkets oder factories - skulls (animal or human) and/or some kind of bodyparts (head on a stick?) - artefacts with unkown origin and purpose i think some of these things could have a lot of potential for atmosphere and even cultural development. i guess cannibalism is out of range (when you are feared to get banned because of children-zombies), but some kind of cult wihout to much gore would be cool. not related a wish for the vehicle section: i want to have a Vespa. -
I support this idea and agree with the reasoning of Haplo. It would add depth, long time motivation and charme to the game. Even a couch i would try to get if there would be some. I always look out for the Mountain Dew even though it has no game-mechanic related attributes (other than Coke or Pepsi). It is just cool. Let us code our own games or set up multiplayer environments with any kind of networking/communication networks. Some kind of beverages and snacks and i could become a happy camper.

i would like to have something like a gameboy added
georgiapeach posted a topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Hi, i used the search but could not really find something related too. punish me if i missed it. i somehow always liked the reference to old gaming in new computer games. so i would be interested if it is possible to introduce games into the game. it could be a gameboy device (where you would need batteries to use it) or an even older Donkey Kong or whatever. so you could relax a bit while you are waiting for your friends. it should make sound (that people could recognize that someone is playing a classic game from the sound) and save the highscore. if this is not possible to implement maybe we could have something like an outdoor chess or minigolf or something. just an idea. because this is my first post i would like to thank Rocket and all the good people out there which made this incredible experience possible. THANK YOU VERY MUCH. -
