Does DayZ's player killing simulate real life authenticly?
tylahfoo replied to Ozelot (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Reading through all of this has given me much to think about. Most people are coming from a psychological background, which I do not have much experience with. I just want to add what I would think would happen through my time studying political science and history. I do believe that there would be an initial outbreak of violence as people begin to hoard and flee the major cities. However, I doubt that this would be kill on sight in the majority of cases; instead, many people would get into some type of conflict over goods or resources which leads to the killing. From there, I feel that WBK is correct when he says we would move towards living in tribal groups. Some of these groups would be more readily willing to attack other groups for their goods. Meanwhile, you would have groups that would just want to rebuild and form a new society. They would realize that working together would help them survive, and being together would make life more livable. Now, we can go to Rousseau or Hobbes and say life is all about murder and war. However, for me at least, I believe that there is no one human nature and individuals will choose different lifestyles depending on their backgrounds and experiences before the apocalypse occurs. We do not go into any conflict or situation as blank slates. The decisions and actions we make are based off of countless years of living a certain way. As Locke says, we each have our own individual strengths that we can use to take down our foes or to use to survive. For some this will be brutal killings, for others it will be grouping up. Lastly, this is a video game. I do not believe kill on sight would be as common in the real world. Why? Neither party will respawn if they get shot after engaging an individual. -
Hey guys! I have had DayZ for almost a year now, and I've been playing off and on. When I first got it, I had a clan it was a lot of fun. After a week of going at it solo, I have grown extremely bored and lonely. I like to play any type of playstyle. If you are interested in having a semi-competent player joining your group/clan please let me know through a private message or on this post. Thanks!

This thread was not meant to be arguing for the implementation of currency. It is a "what I would do IF currency existed". If currency were to exist, there would be a few things I would like to do with the currency. One of these is to claim land, which can then be turned into a town. Towns would have A.I. guards (the guards would have to be paid weekly) that shoot at those who were not clan members if said person started shooting up the place. I would like towns for two reasons. One, towns and towns people would make the game have more of a community. Secondly, I would really like to start a casino in my town and gamble away all my money/items taken from other survivors/locations. It would also be cool if there was a type of town war system. Anyways, I am sure someone has already suggested something similar, but thought I would put this out there. Go ahead and expand on the idea if you want in this thread. If you do not like the idea of towns controlled by players I am sorry that you wasted your time reading this.

Not at all, simply that their is only so much of something a person truly needs before it spoils. If you want to hoard, the easiest way is through precious metals/bullets/idc what. Food/water/etc are harder to protect and some of these items spoil. Eh, I am not going to get my point across when spoilage does not even exist in the game. Backpack space exists, but it would take longer to make an argument for this. Good night all. I throw in my hat. I think I have been brainwashed from my years of studying history/philosophy/sociology that currency has always found its way into every society.
-
If I had say 300 water bottles, I would trade a water bottle for a gold coin. Why? This will would allow me to carry more goods on my travels in exchange for something that does not spoil. After all, that water is not going to stay good forever and I can only drink so much. I could then use the coins in further trades with other traders that want to get rid of their goods that have a spoilage factor.
-
By the way, I am completely okay with the idea of bullets being a form of currency. This thread was not an argument for what type of currency would be used. It is just stupid that people truly believe currency would just disappear after human history has shown us otherwise.
-
What is your definition of government? If I find and form a town of 100 survivors, we can form a government between us. Hell, our only law could be "don't kill each other". Currency would just be something that we all see equal value in. Now, in a video game this would take a lot of coordination. In a video game, you could have the Game Creator deem from his all mighty position as "God" that such and such is a currency. Governments/societies will always exist post-apocalypse as long as people continue to band together for survival. Furthermore, you cannot have government without currency. Currency can exist without a government as long as people acknowledge its value. Gold/silver or other rare metals have been noted currencies that have have been around for many different government changes.
-
Your right. Primitive societies have never known how to use anything as a form of currency. Only in our modern day lives do we have a use for currency. Hell, there are no major apocalypse novels that have any form of currency used in them. There will not be people in this type of world that want to hoard and have a way to do it without spoilage (I doubt you even know who Locke is but its okay). /endsarcasm This is an IF there was currency. I don't really care for this type of input from ignorant fucks that really feel like people will just start trading items right at the beginning of the apocalypse. I am not going to take my time to give you a break down on how it would happen, but just remember this. An infection may take years to fully take over the globe. People will still try to live their lives as normally as possible while it spreads. The deterioration of what WE call currency now will be slow. People may turn back to rare metals as currency or some other item. Anyways, thanks for letting me rant. By the way, if their is no society that means everyone is a bandit. Not everyone is a bandit. If you have read Hobbes, he believes humans will always turn to something to protect them. They will give up everything for it. Society will always exist.

the new patch broke tents again. So you can only survive with what you can carry

Will DayZ run on an Alienware M18x?
tylahfoo replied to Piripon's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
No, it will break your shitty pc and then you will go crying to the customer support who will give you another shitty pc until your warranty runs out and then they will sell you another warranty for half the price of the pc. -
I died so I will b egin the hike to Stary. This is the best part of the game. =)

I came to this post expecting to read someone bragging about what they looted off my body after my 14 day killing spree lol. I ran all the way back to electro to find my body hidden after someone finished looting it =p. Oh well, alt f4 will forever be a problem but not everyone uses it. I say this from my 9 days of experience sitting in electro and taking out as many souls as I could.

LOL, Battleye banned on my friend and I server.. WTF.
tylahfoo replied to [email protected]'s topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Battleeye just fixed their mass unban today so good luck getting them to believe you after the fact. -
Just logged in after a night sniping in electro and found myself 7km away from where I logged. Did the new revision make other people start in a new location? I had all my gear so the worst thing I have to go through is a long hike, which is 40% of the fun of playing this game. If anyone else had this happen to them, please let me know.

To all of you saying those banned are hackers, I hope you log in on the latest patch and get hit with the same problem some p layers and facing. Personally, I am going to stay off the game for a couple of days because this did happen to a friend I play with daily. When I read your responses, the only thought I have is "why would he choose to hack AFTER we just walked 7km back to Stary to put stuff in our tents and go to bed? Wouldn't he hack while we camping electro for 4+ hours?"...Seems rediculous to me but hey most of you people don't like to give people the benefit of the doubt. There are hackers all over this game and that is a known fact. I have a feeling BE was trying to improve their system because of all the bad PR lately, and the result was a small but growing group of legitimate players getting banned in the process. Battleeye Random Fact: At least 10,001 players have been banned now since 2009 out of millions of people who bought your game. At least 1 of those players may be innocent, but who cares because admitting you've done something wrong will only hurt your company more in the short run. Just know I am never going to make the mistake of buying a game with your product again unless this is resolved. TLDR: People hurt by hackers don't care how many innocent people are caught up in this until they are one of the victims of BE.

Hack Fest 2012 - FR117 is where its @
tylahfoo replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
My friend is also not going to keep his server up next month...maybe the producers will understand as their are less and less servers avaiable. -
Actually, by posting under one thread where people are having the same issues it at least lets people know they are not alone. So their crying can be informative to others as well. It will also allow people to know battleeye's stance regarding this issue if the original poster responds with the results of his request to battleeye. Maybe this should be in general discussion, but either way he is not asking dayz mods or admins to unban him,

Hopefully they figure out this patch is causing a lot of grief. I played with my friend all night counter sniping in electro and at the end of the night he saw this patch and downloaded it. He then logged back into the game to go put some of our loot in his tent. As soon as he walks around he gets hit with a message saying that he is now globally banned. Now we are stuck waiting for battleeye to review his case. I have read similiar stories on the forums. Honestly, I don't know how many people are innocent on these forums, but I believe at least a few are. If he is not unbanned and battleeye is chosen for the standalone, I know I will not be buying the new product. It is the only way we as players can send a message and I know that this probably won't even be enough.
-
My friend recently got banned after WE both picked up weapons off a dead body. We are trying to figure this out but battleye is not very helpful...so just letting you know it can happen.
-
Will not buy this game if it uses battleye. Doesn't ban hackers and bans innocent people like my friend.

Hacked Guns, what are the consequences?
tylahfoo replied to haederjonny's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Friend just got banned after we found an as50 tws on someone we killed. Do not know why he got banned and not others who also touched the body. -
Money or currency will always exist in every society, post-apolocolyptic or not. Currency could be in the form of bullets but this would not unison. Everyone values bullets quite differently. Money on the other hand, as gold or other rare metals, can be used as a product with no spoilage with value. This makes life easier for everyone when trying to make a complicated trade. I don't doubt that some form of currency would be formed in any society as it advances. It is foolish to make the argument that in real life currency should not exist; however, this is a video game and the same rules do not apply. The problem with money in games is that some people "farm" the money creating vast inflation. Money in video games with no sinks or controls is foolish. What costs 1 gold today make cost 20 gold tomorrow depending on how much one "farms" gold. In other words, currency in video games spoils quite rapidly. At least with the current system, people must protect their tents and other goods. These goods have a value because they can disapear at any time and are not easily farmable. Money would just make surviving in this game too easy and cause more grief than good.
