Can an Alienware M14x or M17x run DayZ on Max Settings?
SteveLord replied to lttankor7's topic in New Player Discussion
Desktop. Laptops depreciate much faster. And upgrade options are few. -
transfering characters to different computers

I use Steam version. Was able to re-download the game and play on my laptop while on a business trip. -
How long do Heli Crashes stay for?
SteveLord replied to Speshtard's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Just make sure to loot it quick. Zombies respawn again ~ 5 minutes in my recent experiences. -
15.6'' screen = bleh. I played DayZ briefly on a 17'' and felt that was the minimum I could deal with. After normally playing on a 27''/24'' setup. Like having my dbmap visible at all times. Otherwise, good laptop. ;)

Get DayZ Commander. Everything else is crap. -
Wow. I can't believe this shit.

Nothing new. In shooter games, the team that has the hacker.....are often the quietest. Not that they blatantly support hackers, but they are content with having the advantage one brings. -
Agreed. Sorry I came off like a dick. Appreciate you not responding like one also. ;)

I really wish people would stop using the "human eye can/cannot see X amount of fps" line. Because it has nothing to do with why 60fps is the standard and why attention is given to framerate in general. Framerate numbers are not about what the eye can or cannot see. Higher framerate gives you more headroom in situations where your system gets taxed heavily by a game. (Large amount of AI, explosions, firefights, combination of them all, etc.) A system with 60fps average has a higher chance of experiencing visual (this you CAN see) slowdown in those situations versus a system that runs 120fps average. The first thing one should do is determine the size monitor they use or plan to use, as that gives a native resolution to work with. Since you'll generally always want to run at your native resolution, you can easily determine what hardware you would need to run games smoothly at that resolution. And at what level of detail one would be comfortable with. The next thing is budget. Spending more will generally net you better performance. However, there are diminishing returns as you go up...which some people here touched upon already.

You'll lose it by players, game glitches, server glitches or zombie glitches.

Impressed by latest version of Dayz Commander
SteveLord replied to Sula's topic in New Player Discussion
DayZ Commander rocks. Especially if you're a Steam user and updating this game is pain in the ass. Also, it is super easy to filter servers. Plain and simple, no fucking garbage or clunky interface. -
I love that my server reset my spawn to the shore for some reason. Even though I ended my night at Black Lake. So then a zombie pretty far away suddenly runs toward me, which must have alerted a nearby player, who shot and killed me. My gear and friend's gear I was holding (who was killed lastnight) all gone. Wtf? Is this common for spawns to be reset?
-
If someones dies (by zombies), they respawn in an attempt to go collect their gear, then the server restarts......does it reset all gear left on ground also? Is it worth going back or will it not be there?
-
Our camp seems fine. The barb wire duplicated itself a few times. Vehicles and tents still there. Appreciate the quick answer so we don't waste our time going back there....and in the dark!
-
I am on a regular server and my blue dot isn't showing on my GPS anymore. Is there a key to display it or something? No point in even having it if I cant see where I am at. :(
-
Press CTRL twice to holster your weapon. Except pistols.
-
My group said when the server reset, it also "fixed" the UAZ we have back to 100%.
-
Annoying, but just go with what your favorite servers are using.
-
The bag/gear system is atrocious. But if you keep with the videos/wikis and practice it a few times (along with tents, vehicles, etc) it will start to click.

I had ARMA2 from last year's steam sale. I didn't like it too much. Came across DayZ from one of the Youtubers I subscribe to for BF3. For ~$30 this is a pretty good deal. It's very original. It invokes a lot of emotions and adrenaline. Best tip: Group up with people so you can figure some things out. Vent/skype/TS is a lot of fun with this. Although soem of your time is spent running to eachother so you can link up. Note-The steam version is a little harder to get setup properly with Day Z.

Thought I would get on and take a long run to the east side of the map, since my buddies left off there. Within 5 minutes, I started taking fire. I ran into the closest bush line and was zig zagging. I didnt get hit. After a little bit, I dove into the grass and watched behind me. After about 10 minutes, I was about to get up....then I saw 2 guys sneaking around looking for me. Luckily, I was in a good bush and had my ghillie suit. Boy was my heart pumping. So much that I ignored them (probably could have stoood up and shot them both) and stayed put for another 15 minutes. Took off to the south and didnt see or hear them anymore. Mind you, this was with about 5 other people in the server...and I just happen to come across 2 of them. Highlight of my night. Ardenaline was going and was I glued to my screen. Reminded me of my military and airsoft days. Love this game. :)
-
I didn't believe my friends when they kept saying to be careful even on our low pop server. As big as the map is, you'd think it would be rare to come across people.
-
I carry at least 2 of everything, as I primarily play with 3-4 other people. I also keep thinking I would rather have it and not need it, then need it and not have it. ;)
-
I havent even had a kill yet. The only exception being a teammate who was hit by a stray bullet as I unloaded on a passing car once. :P I kept debating whether to try and hunt them down. But I became attached to my gear and decided to play it safe. When I ran off and hid a second time, I did just happen to plop down next to a tent with some goodies. w00t. :D

Survival tactical officer... reporting in.

Seems like a great idea in theory, but I have trouble getting through the challenges. I doubt most of your students have a capable PC of running the game for one. Gaming PCs are still not and probably won't ever be the norm. Second, the game is generally difficult to install and setup compared to most. Third, setting this amount of people up with a VOIP program seems like a real chore. Fourth, how do you keep people engaged? Mil sims are not a top favorite amongst even regular gamers. And having to run around alone for hours on end would be annoying to many/cut into schedules. (I get this is probably the point to using it, but still...) Fifth, the game is still quite buggy. I (with a military background) would have trouble using it when it is not even close to being prime time. -
I don't recommend pirating your OS. $100 isn't a lot for peace of mind. If it is for you, then save up or find a new hobby other than PC gaming.
