What goals do you set for yourself?

I usually give myself new challenges and objectives every time I die. Examples include: "find and kill a bandit," "kill a survivor," "find all the survival supplies" (knife, rangefinder, map, compass, NVG), "first weapons I come across I have to give it to the next friendly survivor I see," "drop everything upon spawn and continue the game from there (balls hard mode btw)." Right now I'm in the middle of a multiday journey, the only goal is to survive until I get to my destination town. Now that boats are apparently in, I might have to go for one of those :P -
This mod keeps receiving a ton of attention, but there is a SEVERE lack of servers. And now that you don't have to disconnect when you die it's pretty hard getting in unless it's night on the US servers. Even then you have to contend with "waiting for response" for who knows how long, only to end up at the dayz's final boss: Debug Hill.

Should split them into 4 x 50 slot servers... Too bad there's no reserve slots for ARMA otherwise I could see servers paying for themselves real quick. -

I actually remember a time a couple of days ago when I was in a 4 way gunfight at the NW airfield :P I was getting shot at so I dropped to the ground and rolled to the nearest cover and tried to get my barrings. While I was doing that someone shot at my attacker, and another group came into my vision shooting at me from the hangars. Needless to say I ran the hell out of there, found the nearest woods and crawled for 2 hours. The best advice is don't go to the NW, there are plenty of other places to get decent loot. The only people that "need" military grade weapons are PKers. The PKers also have a choice, if they leave their precious airfield they don't find much ammo for their gucci guns, and are more likely to get shot and lose everything. -

I was using direct voice fine yesterday in 1.5, I clearly remember seeing a guy run from about 25 zombies armed with only a makarov and I said "ohh that guy's screwed" in direct while looking at him. After the battle he said "that wasn't very nice," and confirmed that he could hear me over direct voice o.O -
I actually really like playing at night, but I feel that we'd all be better served to have a 2:1 or 4:1 cycle as Zillo7 mentioned. A shorter cycle might encourage more players to stick around when the real haunting begins. This could hopefully evolve into a more dynamic night scene, right now activity seems to drop at night. A shorter day/night cycle could also address some of the minor complaints surrounding how often we need to eat/drink.(doesn't really bother me though.) I'd say there's a lot of other stuff that needs work before this type of tweak really needs to be approached.

Zombies: why they are silly and unbalanced

I don't get the complaining about knockout with zombies. The mod is more of a zombie survival simulation, and yes it's completely possible/realistic for someone to be K.O.ed in one random hit. If you get knocked out by a zombie you're done and dead, accept it, the dead aren't going to just paw at you or ignore you when you're in your most vulnerable moments. I understand that it's frustrating, but I'd say that's how life goes. As to using barns, stairs etc. to kill zombies I think it's rather realistic. Most of these places exist as natural choke points, and you're exploiting a zombie weaknes: They may be fast, they can move erratically, but you know they WILL follow you, and you know they have a hard time navigating certain obstacles. You'd be insane not to take advantage of these facts in a real scenario. Besides you still need to make those shots count, you can still attract more, you need time to reload/ bandage/etc. so it's not like the game suddenly becomes easy once you've figured out basic zombie fighting techniques. I can't count the number of times I've had tense moments fighting a horde in some choke point wondering if I had enough rounds or if I was going to bleed to death before I killed them all. The zombies aren't to keen on taking a timeout for me to bandage my booboos :P -

Yep, Got shot at and returned fire killing the two firing on me. This gave me bandit status, and after I was killed I respawned still as a bandit... Can't wait to get shot again. -
The night I went to Cherno... It was dark, it's funny to think how dark it was even though the city could be seen under the ghostly illumination of who knows how many flares. I went into the city as a survivor, 6 revolver rounds, half starved, empty canteen clanking at my side. I planned to leave the city with a full sack, new guns, and bandit status, it was just a matter of finding the right prey. The city chimes rang out midnight, the witching hour, I darted between blocks and buildings, moving from cover to cover all the while intently listening. Gunshots and fast paced footsteps echoed through the city streets, the ambiance of zombie groans drove home the fact that Cherno was not a good place, only those looking to die came here. Footsteps echoed through a nearby house, I took cover, alert ears perked I sat in the dark. A fleeting shadow darted from the cover of the house into a nearby bar. “This is it” I thought, that’s the guy who has to die tonight. I moved up to the bar and entered the front door in a low crouch, revolver raised. As I slowly moved through the bar into the dining area I saw the glint of a gun pointed at me, and instinctively sprinted into the next room. The next minute consisted of frantic yells, and footsteps as my prey and I postured ourselves. Suddenly a voice boomed “FREEZE, IDENTIFY YOURSELF, I HAVE NV AND I CAN SEE YOU CLEARLY.” Clearly my prey was bluffing, where would he have gotten something like that, I moved closer to the covered end of the bar. “DIDN’T YOU HEAR ME?! I’LL WASTE YOU!” I yelled “FRIENDLY,” and accepted that I was boned. My “was-to-be” prey entered the bar again pointing a rifle at me, instructing me to exit the bar calmly and slowly. We stepped out into the streets, shots rang out 50 meters away towards the town hall. “Walk to the statue in the square, don’t turn around” my captor whispered. “I’m going to die, if he doesn’t shoot me surely another bandit will,” I thought. I moved almost robotically toward the statue, waiting for the inevitable burst that would take my life.. “STOP!” A silhouette of a low lying tent appeared before me. “Grab what you need from the tent and get the hell out of my city.” I grabbed a winchester, some rounds, food, and a full canteen and darted back to cover. “There’s an ALICE pack and some more gear in the house across the street.” I asked “Why? Why are you helping me?” He responded with a chuckle, “I’m like the Dark Knight.” With those words my captor disappeared into the night. The next hour was spent arduously exiting the city, and upon reaching a rocky outcropping a safe distance away from all the gunshots, lights, and air of the city I stopped. From that moment onward I’d do my best to help other survivors, it was going to be hard, but it was possible. And that’s how that fateful night went down :P <3 DayZ

I'd like to put my support behind JonnerZ. He came to us at a time when we were still very small' date=' he was kind and friendly and very helpful - very trusting and his server has taken the bulk of the load during the development. Host Altitude is the company he runs, and I really can't say how helpful him, Tonic, Profan, and the 6 other hosters have been to this project. Bandwidth costs alot, these guys are forking out BIG money for this, and getting very little in return. And they're doing it without demanding a thing from the dayz team and giving us root access to our boxes. Restores whatever faith in humanity I lost watching you all slaughter each other on the servers :D [/quote'] Dropped $25 for the community, hopefully we can get some more servers up. Glad to hear you've had nothing but good experiences with these hosts, makes me more confident in a donation and makes me interested in their services.
