For me personally, DUG has been the best thing that happened since I discovered DayZ mod long, long ago. I started with DayZ almost from the beginnings of the mod and I sticked to DUG when it was created as well. I had the opportunity to watch both of these grow and provide my input to that growth. DayZ Underground originated as a way of cleansing the toxic /r/dayz community and selecting only people who could disscuss our favourite game in a mature way. It then evolved into a private server (the first private one, as is correctly stated, thanks to Hicks' generosity) and then into a RP server. This game is a sandbox and sandboxes are excellent for roleplaying and creating your own stories, which is why a place such as this in this game is the best that can be. Many games nowadays don't care about the quality of their communities and I think it's a big oversight because that quality is so, so important. It simply makes such a difference to meet valuable players with valuable stories that then become valuable interactions, instead of immature, rude, trollish players who make you hate the game instead of enjoying it. DayZ Underground highly values community quality and does not tolerate toxicity, while at the same time being able to distinguish a valid, bandit playstyle from a rude, toxic personality - a thing that many RP servers struggle with. We come back home after school/work every day to relax and have fun, why have it spoiled by immature brats? Playing with people who respect others is very refreshing, try it out, maybe you don't even realize how big of an impact it has on you.
