I dont understand Zeroing.... at all

I say, before messing with the zeroing, play with whatever is set on the rifle by default. You will see that the further target is away from you, the more bullet drops, the more you have to raise your sight UP to compensate for that drop. Zeroing does exactly that for you, but it adjusts optics (scope), so that it compensates for the drop, and you don't have to put your crosshairs all the way above targets head, to hit them at longer distances. P.S. Shameless self promotion, but maybe you'll find this useful. I will be covering AKM in the future, which has zeroing as well, but in the meanwhile this should get the concept across. http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/46898-dayz-marksmanship/

no, if he is at 600 and your zeroing is at 700, when you put your crosshairs on him, an shoot, the bullet will wiz above his head, because it needs to hit what you are aiming at, only 100 meters further than where your target is. Think of it as a golf game. Your bullet is your ball. Your target is the hole in the grass. The strength of your hit on the ball, is the zeroing. If the hole is 600 meters away from you, but you hit the ball hard enough for it to go 700 meters, then obviously the ball will land nowhere near the hole. If you hit with enough force to go 600, then the ball will drop near the hole or into the hole. So zeroing just sets your sights in such a way, that they compensate for the drop of the bullet at a given distance. Zeroing at 700 doesn't mean the bullet will shoot further, or stronger, it just means that the sights are moved in such a way, that when you train them on your target, the bullet will lend on it at 700 meters. Anything further, and the bullet will hit low, anything closer and the bullet will hit high.

No Crossbow IS DayZ special, but if the mod is installed, you can pull mod's guns into editor just like vanilla's. Winchester is DayZ exclusive too.

Pistols... hmm I'll see if there is anything worth showing with them. The videos are from my personal setups that I've done in the editor. The most basic placement of units, and giving player correct weapon and ammo. Pretty simple. There are tons of tutorials for Arma2 editor. After I'm done with the weapons for stationary targets, I'll do some for moving and running targets, showing how much you should be leading, semi vs. burst vs. full, prone vs. kneeled, that sort of a thing. Crossbow is coming.

Winchester 200 meters it the limit of its useful range. Beyond that, you are compensating for the drop so much, that you can not see the target and can not accurately aim at it. Also keep in mind that at these ranges, you most probably won't kill a player in one hit. So multiple shots will be needed. Ranges beyond 200 meters are more for suppression fire, if you want them to duck and cover.

Winchester is coming up, rendering the video for it. Next will be a Crossbow, as it seems to be a weapon that not a lot of people know how to use. Then AKM, followed by M162A. AK is also on the list, as well as the Kobra variant, it has a decent "Red Dot" that you can use to range the distance somewhat.

Next should be Winchester as its the next most popular starter weapon, and its very different from Lee-Enfield.

Lets start with Lee Enfield, as its very common and a good starter weapon. At these ranges, it is assumed that you are engaging a player, as most of the time there is absolutely no need to shoot zombies from that far away. Here is the video of Lee Enfield, and its landmarks for range finding, as well as compensation for the bullet drop at all those distances. Hope you enjoy.

Hello everybody. I am myself by no means an expert with real firearms, however I've been playing with DayZ's arsenal in the editor, and found some really useful and interesting stuff for myself. This thread is for me to share what I discovered, and hopefully you'll find it useful as well. The idea is to learn to identify the distance to the target, and compensate for the bullet drop (if needed), all using iron sights. Sniper scopes come with markings to make this process much easier, and there are plenty of good tutorials on how to use sniper scopes properly. However you can do similar sighting and range estimation, using regular iron sights on most of the weapons. Some are easier, some are a bit harder. Obviously the range without a scope will be limited to around 600 - 800 meters. At 800 meters a standing target is just a few pixels tall, and a crouching one is almost invisible. However a shot is still possible even at these extreme ranges. I believe this knowledge will help you greatly in becoming much more accurate with your gun.
