    Treausre island

Interesting, didn't know any of those things, hell I didn't know there was an island that far off the coast of the mainland. Ah well, sounds like I won't be needed. And oh yeah, I keep forgetting temperature is now a thing in this game, I know it wasn't working for ages, then last night I actually had to apply a heat pack, first one ever used, haha.

    Treausre island

It just did with that comment, It's retarded for future reference. I don't have a boat, but if we find a chopper on the server later on, then we might be able to give you a lift, we shall see what happens. By the way don't try swimming all the way back, I'm pretty sure you would run out of food or drink before you hit the shore, then end up dead from starvation anyway. One more option would be to server hop (only time I would deem it not that bad) and try to find one with a boat you can use to get back to the shore.

Why does everyone want me dead?

What consequences are there in a lawless wasteland, with no government, no control? It's just people left to do whatever the hell they want, and it looks like a lot of them just want to kill you for kicks. The sooner people realise that PvP is the main part of this game, the sooner all these threads can be done with. Zombies are not a threat, so what else gives this game the suspense it has? Other people of course. The fear of getting shot keeps me alive more than the fear of getting my legs bit off. People are and always will be the biggest threat to everything on this planet, including ourselves. The only difference will be that during an apocalypse, there will be no government, or law, holding these people back from what they want to do. So as long as this game exists, there will always be bandits, and murderers, and also (unfortunately in fewer numbers) the ones that just want to not kill, and survive. I've said it plenty of times before, I don't want to kill anyone, but my instinct to survive is stronger than my willingness to get stabbed in the back again, If you say friendly to me, I probably won't shoot you, but you can bet your pretty pennies that I don't intend to trust you just because you've said it. "Not everyone is out to get you, but you won't meet everyone if the first person you see is."

    so i heard gunshoots

What else does it have to do with other than not wanting to die in the game? That is all it is about, If you log out when you know another player is close, and is shooting. It doesn't matter what he is shooting at, if he is in the vicinity, and has a chance to come in your direction, then I don't see why you should log off just to preserve your life that little bit longer. If I hear gunshots, and don't want confrontation, you know what I do? Run in the opposite direction, get some cover and distance between you and the shooter. If it really is a hacker, then unfortunately, until this is a standalone game, people will have problems with them. But just because you think it is a hacker, doesn't mean it is. The thing is surely a hacker can easily spawn right behind you to shoot you in the head, so why assume it is one if you hear shots in the distance? But yeah, that's my opinion anyway, just try not to log out the moment things get hairy, or you will get bored of this game very quickly.

    Night Vis, GPS, CAMO

Yeah, Ghillie Suits and Camo clothing aren't quite as rare because they have more spawn points, so you can find them in more places. But the only set of NVG's I've seen were a set off some guy, and that life only lasted about 10 minutes longer... Anyway yes they are rare, not something you will see every day, unless you are exceptionally lucky. They apparently only spawn at heli crash sites, and in the barracks at the NW airfield, so unless you run into a player that has them, and doesn't disconnect, don't expect to see them often.
  6. People need to stop saying it is not difficult to find weapons, while I agree somewhat, people don't take into account that spawns are random in this game, so no matter how high the chance is of finding a hatchet, it is still luck to find one. On the other had, people also need to stop wanting baby steps in game, I started playing this mod after the Makky was taken out of your starting equipment, it took me 2 lives to get the grips of what I needed to to, and how to do it. Sure I'm still learning things about the game, and finding new stuff, but seriously, go and play Dead Rising 2 if you want an easy ZA game, I want a challenge, and I don't want my hand held while I take it. If you want good starting advice, this is what I can give you. (It works for me anyway, see if it can for you) DO hit up the big cities on the coast, don't be afraid to lose a life that has barely started, or you will never cope if you ever found good stuff and got killed. Learn quick and easy routes through the cities, and you can usually end up with a good bit of starting gear, as well as a weapon, then head North as soon as you can. Also there is not much point in trying to be sneaky through a town swarming with Zeds, it will take you far too long to move around and increase the chances of dying to another player. Since Zeds will walk slowly through a building, learn the ones that have 2 entrances, as they are one of the easiest ways to lose zombies without killing them, also giving you a place to loot on the way through. Remember, the reason why the big cities are contested like they are, is because they are the best places to go for people just starting out. With the most Loot, the most spawns, and by reasoning of the other 2, more people. You want to learn your route through the city, trying to include the major landmarks, (Supermarket, Fire House, Hospital) They all contain useful items, like compasses, maps, bigger bags, guns, and meds. You will need all of these to survive. Obviously picking up food and drink is a given, but remember, you can "technically" survive in this game, with a hatchet, a box of matches, a hunting knife, and a canteen, so take a few cans with you, until you are able to make your own. Not sure if there is anything I haven't thought about at the moment, but I'm sure I will be corrected shortly if I have. The game isn't meant to be easy, but if you can grasp the controls, it should not be that hard either, as you will soon realise that it is not the game at fault, but the tactics you were using that caused you to die the way you did. I have died lots of times, and only once do I blame the game for what happened, (Don't you love getting glitch hit through the wall of a house?)
  7. It has crossed my mind, but I have added him on skype, and he hasn't even wrote me a message to say that is what he did. There was also no reason to go behind me to put something in my bag, No, I'm afraid the world if full of people that act like this, you just need to learn from what happens, I can't remember who wrote it, but this quote speaks volumes for this game. It will help people out, and is the main reason I told my story: "Learn from the mistakes of others, because you won't live long enough to make them all yourself." Obviously I was the one that made the mistake of trusting someone I didn't know, but others can learn from what I have done. Unless you know them, or have agreed to meet them somewhere from a forum, then there is a chance this will happen. It's not likely, but there it is, these people exist, and will be attracted to a game like this, because it works on the very complex system of human nature. Like I said, it's not likely to happen, but next time I meet a "friendly", chances are I will be aiming at them until we part ways, and It makes me too paranoid to travel with them, because there is always going to be that little bit inside of my head, telling me that I am about to get shot in the back. That's just the way things go anyway, I'm not saying do what I do, do what you want, that's the whole point of this game, but just remember what happened to me, it might save your life one day.
  8. Haha, well it really took the fun out of the game for about 3 minutes while I just worked out what had happened in my head, then I started out again, which is always fun. I'm still starting again actually, which is not quite so fun, but hopefully I will spawn somewhere convenient when I log in in a minute. Good hunting to any Bandit slayers, kill 'em all, haha.
  9. The fact that I had already walked past him, and he initiated contact from a position where he could already kill me, then no, I'm sorry but I disagree entirely. The only reason he did what he did was because he is an arsehole, I see no reason if you already have the drop on someone, and are a bandit, why then announce yourself and create a risk for yourself, when you could just take the shot? The fact that he actively made contact, said he was friendly, all that jazz, when he already had the drop on me, was a complete dick move. Why on earth would I be proud to get killed by someone in such a low way? This wouldn't have even been a story if the guy had just shot me there and then, I wouldn't have cared.
  10. Sure you can, but in the end if all you do is go around with a hatchet killing Zed's, well, there are games already like that, and it would get boring after a while. I mean, I could get a hatchet, a hunting knife, matches and a canteen, and done, I could live in the wilderness and rack up hours of playtime, but the risk factor makes this what it is. It is one of the reasons I go to Stary or the NW airfield, Yes I have died there, but without death this game becomes like all the others out there. Dunno, everyone plays and thinks different, coming from Bethesda means I have a tendency for looting everything that's not strapped down, always fun to find something new as well. So yes, I like to loot, and I like to find Shiny new guns to try out, and for me that is an experience in the game. But like I said I wasn't really that bothered about the equipment loss, more of the betrayal from the guy. And for me that was a pretty poor experience in my books, I personally prefer people to either shoot on site, or be friendly if they say friendly. Again, just me though.

    "FRIENDLY" is bullshit

I'm just going to copy and paste my story from another thread here, sorry if you have already seen it, but it looks like as fitting a place as any for my encounter to go: I wish I met survivors like this. I won't get irritated when I die, maybe a little disappointed at doing something stupid that caused my death, but when something like what happened to me recently occurs, you really just want to shoot everyone you see on sight. I'm going around the Berezino tents and I hear someone call friendly over the mic, since I had already walked past him and not even noticed him, I agree that he probably is friendly, and then we join up for a bit. He says he is part of a clan on the server, asks if I want to join, I say sure, and then he gives me NVG's, First set I've seen in the game, and we give blood transfusions and all that jazz. End up doing a bit of looting and such for about 10-20 minutes. Then after we loot a crashed Heli I had passed on the way, we go to the tree line, and I notice I have an almost flashing food bar, I say that I'm going to head into town for some food, he says he will give me some, goes around behind me and shoots me in the back of the head. I have run this through my mind several times, and I just can't get my head round why he shot me, (if I had, I may still be alive) if you're wondering how I know it was him, well I heard the shot that killed me, and it was the same gun he had. Not a long range weapon, but a FAL. We were in a fairly quiet area by then, I would have been surprised to see anyone else there, considering there was about 5 people on the server at the time. I had also added him on skype for later, but he has never been online from what I can see, also strange considering HE was the one that suggested adding him. But that is survival for you, If you don't know them, don't trust them. I'm not trying to cause people to not trust each other (lets be honest, the game is designed to do that itself), just that people really need to know that even If you join with someone for a while, doesn't mean they won't be a complete tool and shoot you when your back is turned. Since this I have met up with other people, even given a new guy some ammo for his Enfield when I helped him out from a zombie onslaught. (We both ended up trapped and dead another town over, it is probably better just to run than ring the dinner bell and watch the Zed's come swarming). Again though, he had ample opportunity to kill me and take my gear, but I helped him anyway, I had little to lose at the time, so I wasn't too bothered if he did (so long as he killed me outright, rather than befriending me to shoot me). Also I will add that even though I was leading him (I had the map) I was constantly checking behind me to make sure he didn't try to train his gun on me, so much so that I was running into trees, lol. So, not my favourite story to tell, but it does teach you to be wary of anyone you don't actually know. I'd like to join in with people here and say my play style hasn't been affected, but of course it has. I am not a bandit, I will not be sitting on top of a hill near Cherno any time soon picking people off for the sake of a larger number at the side of my screen, but If I think I am at risk, then I will not be taking chances again. If someone says they are friendly, then they will have a chance to move along, if not, I will take the shot. I have met with friendly people on forums before, and I think it is a good way to team up if you want to, and don't have RL friends with this game. "Not everyone is out to get you, but you won't meet everyone if the first person you see is." "Humanity? The Human race has no Humanity, just a bunch of glorified primates with an overwhelmingly powerful belief that their existence is far more important than everything else's."
  12. Thanks, the biggest threats to me are the ones that think like I do, because I don't account for them. I assume the biggest threats on the map to be NW Airfield, Stary, Cherno, or Electro. Thus it makes Berezino look quite appealing, half way up the other side of the map. There was only a few people on the server when I headed for Berezino, I've been there a few times before, and know the layout, I also had some nice gear (AKM, M9sd, AS50, Alice Pack). Literally just going to the tents to have a quick look for something better when I met the guy. It's the mentality I can't get my head around, I mean, who says friendly, teams up, swaps some gear and gives blood transfusions, only to shoot me in the head 10 minutes later? I've said it before, and I will say it again, it just epitomises the very worst of mankind. I don't get too attached to gear, I actually like starting again, just to see what my luck is like that time around. But it is pretty depressing to get killed by someone you are just starting to trust. I'll quite happily join together if you like, I actually have no idea where I am at the moment, due to several deaths and very bad servers last night. I will add you when I get home later, will try to be on for a few hours tonight if I can, can't be bothered with going out.

Sorry for the Uber long post anyway, just thought I would post a Reverse encounter with another survivor, just to help new players choose what they want to do. My new policy now is to shoot on site anyone that has had a chance to see me, or where I am going to, but only If I have spent enough time to collect a lot of good gear. I will always be hostile In the northern parts of the map, as by the time I reach there I have too much to lose, and I'm not dying like that again. "Not everyone is out to get you, but you won't meet everyone if the first person you see is." "Humanity? The Human race has no Humanity, just a bunch of glorified primates with an overwhelmingly powerful belief that their existence is far more important than everything else's."
  14. Yeah, I don't disagree with that, I would rather die when I have nothing, but it doesn't mean I want some fucktard sitting on top of a hill shooting me because he somehow thinks it makes him super bad to snipe people that wouldn't give him a challenge even if they were 3 feet away from him. Like I said before, if you have all the gear you usually find on people that do this, then you shouldn't be anywhere near the coast anyway. It means you have actively travelled back across half the map just to kill newly spawned in players. Don't get me wrong, It's apart of the game, and if they want to do it, then they can, I just think it epitomises the very worst of the human mindset really.
  15. I wouldn't call it much of a good situation, it just teaches the new guys that people are just out to kill them, regardless of whether they are a threat or not. There is a difference between shooting someone to preserve your own life, and sniping an unarmed player just for kicks. There is nothing good about the people who sit on the hillsides on the south coast, waiting to shoot someone just trying to pick up some starter gear and actually head out into the world. If you have that sort of equipment and are still near the coast, you are only there for one thing, to troll on people. Go out and start trying to shoot at people who can shoot back, go to the NW airfield and snipe, there are always people around that area, especially in a high pop server.
  16. Ok, so yesterday I finally teamed up with someone, had a blast, but while he used skype to talk to me (I am currently getting a mic, so I was using in game text chat) I could not hear any in game sounds at all, no footsteps, Zed noises, anything at all. I was wondering if it is a setting I need to change to be able to hear both what my friends say to me on skype, and what is happening in the game itself. If anyone could help me out with this it would be much appreciated. P.S. Sorry if there is already a post about this, I tried to use the search function to find a topic, and found nothing.

Using Skype, and losing in game sound

Thanks again for the advice, unfortunately, after changing the settings, I still seem to be suffering from the same problem, I have looked on both skype settings, and ingame settings, but there doesn't seem to be any reason why I shouldn't be able to hear it.

Why does everyone want me dead?

Hell even someone that say friendly to me isn't going to have much luck, I had a hatchet at balotta airfield, was in a hangar minding my own business, and a guy walks in, almost right up to me before noticing, and say "Oh shit, I'm friendly I'm friendly," so yeah, I just left him alone and turned to the aggroed Zed he bought in with him, then as I ran towards It he shoots me, for what, an axe? After meeting a bunch of dicks like that, you generally turn to a KOS type of attitude.
  19. discombobulated

    Worst Game Experience ever

Well there is a form of fatigue, obviously not like in real life, but after running, even crouch running or walking will increase the width of the cross-hairs, making it harder to shoot without aiming in, also even aiming in I've noticed if you are breathing heavily the gun "jumps" very slightly in a random direction, making it harder to go into a gunfight after moving. The best way to notice this is to run for a minute or so, then pull out your binoculars straight away, you will see how erratically it moves, it's because you are out of breath. Personally, as many "reality factors" as there are in the game, I'm glad for the unlimited run, purely because it takes long enough getting round the map without a vehicle as it is, and vehicles are few and far between. (not to mention having to repair them when you find one). I mean, would you really want to walk around a 225 square km map? I certainly don't, lol. On your other point I agree, Zed's have one thing on their mind, brains. so when they see some brains, they are going after them. And since there mind is occupied by only one thing, the chances of them getting bored and deciding to leave you alone are somewhat slim to f*** all. my only problem with them is when they glitch hit you, which is pretty depressing, especially when they knock you unconscious because of it.

Using Skype, and losing in game sound

Wow, thanks for the swift response guys, I was willing to watch this site all day while at work till I got a response. Now I just need to wait till I can get home to try this out, haha.
  21. So this is me, I'm Alex, I'm 24, from the UK, and currently I am a solo player. Possibly the best game ever, DayZ has been the type of survival horror I have always wanted, but has changed my nature somewhat. I'm not the type of person to just kill every survivor I see, but countless deaths from trying to make contact have taught me to shoot first, and don't bother with questions because everyone is too paranoid to listen. I need some people (1 would do) to team up with, and have a better chance at surviving. I am currently around the starry sober area, and will be logging on in about an hour, if anyone wants to team up and not shoot me in the face It would be much appreciated. One more thing, I currently have no mic (but I will be able to hear you if you speak), so I will only be able to communicate through typing. If you fancy teaming up , then drop me a message, I will get back to you.
