Well yes, but only if you can't aim and shoot. I don't generally carry too much ammunition, because I don't plan to shoot everything I see. In fact I will barely use any ammo at all except for in my secondary shooting Zeds. My primary ammo is usually the same after a mission as it was before, unless I get into a situation with bandits, and then I choose my shots rather than firing an entire clip because I saw something move. This isn't a fast-paced shooter, it is a survival game. Carrying 10 magazines of one type of ammo leaves me very little room to carry anything else of particular use. Such as blood-bags for if you and your friend get shot, carrying only one is a sure way to end up passing out at the most inopportune moment, with no way of restoring lost blood other than slowly eating cooked meat, which your also carrying a small amount of.

I think there is a guy that lives on top of Green Mountain that knows...

Oh please tell me you're not serious! Why are they bringing back the bandit skin? It is completely pointless, and is no real indication at all about the players status. If someone starts shooting at me, but have not killed before, and I get the kill on them, BAM, murder count up to 1 (Really? I get a murder for shooting in self defence? Seems fair...) This could happen several times, and then I end up a bandit, for killing people trying to kill me. Not only that but when you meet someone you will not know just by looking at their clothes whether they are good people or not, it just takes so much out of the game when you "know" whether they kill or not. Also what happens to people with the bandit skin and ghillie suits? If it covers over the bandit skin then it is irrelevant as it will be exactly the same as before. If it doesn't cover the bandit skin then it's a waste of time wearing one for most people anyway.

"Tactical Menu" - question
discombobulated replied to DR@GON (DayZ)'s topic in New Player Discussion
Clicking the middle mouse button only does the main action of the one's you are able to do. Try rolling the mouse wheel rather than just clicking, and all the options available to you will pop up. Such as over a dead body, roll the mouse wheel, and you will see: Open Backpack Loot Body Hide Body etc. Hope I am understanding you correctly and this is what you mean. -
Lol, constructive, concise, and c***ish. Well, one out of three isn't bad. Anywho they're not going to fix it. Not on the mod version, the standalone will be a lot more resilient, and personally I would rather they spent as much time as possible making it even more epic, then trying to fix something which is only getting replaced in the near future anyway. But I doubt you will be replying, it looks like you created an account purely to moan about something everyone is already aware of, peace.

Trading for an M4A1 CCO SD
discombobulated replied to Blakbewwy's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It all depends on who you meet up with. Some will want to kill you for your gear, others won't. If you're going to do a trade then your best bet is to take a couple of friends for backup (as snipers I mean, no point in all of you entering a field to do a trade just to get shot). If you don't have any that play DayZ, try looking for a trade thread on here, or just a couple of people to team up with. Good luck to you sir, though I have to say after owning one I think I will be swapping mine out for an L85A2 AWS. But only because I already have an M9SD, so my silenced needs are met. -
You know you're playing too much DayZ when...

I'm ringing the bell, COME GET ME!
discombobulated replied to SgtG's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
So what's the point of this thread? Just to send people looking round thousands of servers just to find a name? If you truly want to die, then make it at least easy to find you, no-one expects you to make it easy for them to kill you. -
Why would they? What consequences are there for killing someone in RL? Prison? Death Sentence? Morality? (The last one is irrelevant considering most humans have no morals to begin with, or ones that differ greatly to yours). These things do not exist in a Post apocalyptic environment, and as such, the people that are going to survive longest are the ones that actively avoid everywhere where people are, or the ones that kill on sight. Shooting someone with a hatchet that isn't causing you a threat is just pathetic, and the exact behaviour that you seem to disapprove of. Just because it has been done to you, does not mean you have to do it to others, that is a completely hypocritical approach, and won't necessarily get you very far. If I can avoid a situation, I will. If I can't, I will fight till there is not a drop of blood left in my veins, why? BECAUSE I'M BATMAN.... No sorry, because I'm a survivor.

Trading for a SVD camo
discombobulated replied to The Friendly Bandit's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
As far as I am aware the SVD Camo is one of the rarest guns in the game, while the Bizon, whilst rare, is the most common drop at Heli crash sites. Try offering something with a little more value, (note I don't have one myself, but I doubt you will get anyone doing that trade) -
The recruit and veteran servers are misleading, as the admin can change the settings to how they like. I really don't like seeing myself on the map, generally I know where I am anyway by the time I have found one, so it just makes for easier navigation (shift click to set way-point). I would be very wary on servers where you can see yourself and possibly others on the map, because if you don't check often, you could be blind sided by someone that is.

I always take head bobbing out of a game, it is completely horrible, and I don't know why it is in there in the first place. When I am walking or running, yes my head moves about a bit, but not like some idiotic bobble head figure.

i'm new and i get killed by everyone, even when i say FRIENDLY PLAYER in the chat screen.
discombobulated replied to Gert-Jan's topic in New Player Discussion
That is exactly it my friend, you play this game as you would in the same "real life" situation. A lot of people do the same, and you will find as you play it more and more you will find more and more people that enjoy killing you, just to ruin your fun. It doesn't change that much in real life, most people in the world are C***s and the only reason that you don't see much of it is because you live in a state with law and consequences, take those away and this is pretty much what happens. Nothing on this game is easier on your own, except that all the loot you find is your own. Sole survivors will always be outclassed by a group of 3-4 people, if they can locate him before half their numbers are dead. Getting back blood can be a slow process on your own as well, while with some co-operation you can be back up to full within 20 seconds. This game centres around the PvP aspect, and if you don't like it, then you're not going to enjoy your time here I'm afraid. Adapt to a different play style, or accept that you will die a lot from people that are not friendly. -

discombobulated replied to Gert-Jan's topic in New Player Discussion
I agree, and how can you tell who truly is a bandit? If I get shot at by a newish player, and kill him I get a murder. Bit unfair, I only shot him because he was shooting at me, that's self defence. There are so many factors in a shoot-out that can't be accounted for in the game. So yes the bandit skin is better out of the game, as it was never true to form anyway, all murderers are bandits, but not all bandits are murderers, like I said, self defence apparently means nothing in this game. -

discombobulated replied to Gert-Jan's topic in New Player Discussion
You act like people aren't bastards in real life, the game uses human nature as part of its system, so you will always find bandits, murderers, and a few friendlies. Most of the people that were friendly on this game have turned to shoot on site players, because of past experiences like your own. I will never kill someone that isn't a threat, but from my own experiences I'm not going to trust someone just because they say "friendly". People need to realise that if you really don't want to shoot someone, and you get too attached to your gear, then this game is just going to annoy you, and you won't enjoy it. Finding anything in the game is pure chance, so if you don't find anything in a few hours, it's just unlucky, just try again. You will have times where you can't find anything, then others that seem as if the game is just giving it all to you. Take it all in good stead, this game shows you exactly the type of people that you are likely to find in a post apocalyptic world. Some are scared, and will shoot you for fear of you doing the same to them. Some people are just complete C***s, and just enjoy ruining other peoples good times. And then the final group that would rather try and be friendly to everyone they meet, and this is the group that get's burned, because they expect people to act the same way they do, civilly. -
Yeah... I do know about them, lol. What I was pointing out was that Riku said: "I hear it is unlikely to find a heli crash once the server has passed the 10 minute mark, meaning they only spawn the first 10 minutes of the server being restarted/created." Which doesn't add up in my own experiences, I mean yes they will respawn at server restart, but they will still be there until the server restarts and changes their spawn location again. The only thing is I don't think loot respawns around them, so if you are on a high population server, then the chances are any Heli crash site will be looted before you come across it, or as you said, being camped out to see who else comes by. I've seen plenty of Crash sites, the best items I've found round them are the M14 AIM, M249 SAW with three 200 round mags, FN FAL, Ghillie Suit, L85A2 AWS, also a few lesser guns and some meds.

I have everything, what should I do now?
discombobulated replied to o00Frost00o's topic in New Player Discussion
Yes, but Zombies wouldn't necessarily turn you insane, but watching the way humanity has crumbled may. All the bandits you face, the people you have to kill, all go towards your sanity, and so would avoiding people, which would make it in peoples best interest to join up. The only problem I see with this, is that it forces some people to play in a way they don't want to. Not everyone wants to be a "good" guy, and not everyone wants to team up with others, I don't think I would trust another person during the apocalypse, except for my closest friends, and even then, how well do you really know someone until you're put into a situation miles out of your comfort zone? Also not everyone will go insane in the same situation, so maybe at the beginning you have a couple of character questions, deciding what may or may not flip the switch in certain situations. It could be a good idea, but it would be very complicated to incorporate a system that would work well for everyone. You have to remember that the reason this game works so well as it is, is because it uses peoples decisions as part of the game. Some people just want to ruin other peoples day, other want to help people. You have the groups, and the lone wolves. All have a right to play, and rocket has said he doesn't want to influence people to play in any particular way, because it is the actions of everyone that shape the stories of DayZ, whether good or bad. -
Hmmm, I haven't encountered a problem with using 2 weapons with the same ammo, but I would assume that in theory you should put an equal number of magazines in you active inventory and your bag, In which case if it does switch the ammo, there is always a place for it to go. Another suggestion would be to only carry a few magazines, say 4 in your active inventory, and I highly doubt it would put them into our bag if you were switching to a weapon that uses the same ammo type.

Sniper on UK12 can go f~@% Himself!!!
discombobulated replied to Sinsinful's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Note, you won't hear the bullet that kills you, they travel faster than sound, and the game simulates this. Climbing high to scout out might seem like a good idea, but all it is doing is presenting yourself as an easy victim for snipers. Remember the reason why the big cities always draw players to them, it is because there is a lot of good gear within close proximity of each other. So this is good and bad, personally I love it. Always a thrill going through the big cities, hearing flies and gunshots all around you. If you avoid the big cities, then finding basic supplies will be more difficult. They will be further spread out, and the smaller towns do not have many buildings you can enter, so any Zeds chasing you will cause more inconvenience. Try and learn routes through the cities, making sure to go through the main buildings, such as the supermarket, fire station, and hospital. Once you've got good gear, don't scout, just get while the getting is good. Try to use cover from any over-watch positions, and once past the places where you can be shot from, head north. The further from the coast you go, the less chances you will have of finding people. (outside the major cities or NW airfield of course). Once you have general supplies, hitting up a few of the smaller towns inland is a good way to keep your blood pumping through your veins, just always be wary of other players, it is a big map yes, but they could be anywhere. Deer stands have potentially great loot, so check a map of deer stand locations, and try to get to a few if you don't have the weapons you want, or just want an upgrade. -
There would never be any servers like this, ever. People would use the servers to farm all the best loot, without much fear, considering zombies are not much of a threat. Then take all their good stuff to a PvP server where it would actually be useful. There just isn't a challenge in this game if players can't kill each other.
-
Never heard of that, I seem to find them everywhere, and never just after a server restart. Are you sure you don't mean that they have usually been looted if the server hasn't restarted recently?
-
HA! And I'm tired of hearing everyone complain that it's not "free" because you have to buy something to play it. Well fuck me, haven't you just stumbled across the biggest non-secret to ever exist. want to play a pc game like BF play for free? well yes, it's free to play but you still need a computer to play it, where do you get one? Buy it. Free items in the newspaper? Sure, buy the newspaper first though. Even stores that do BOGOF deals or lowered prices aren't giving it to you for free or even much cheaper, they're just making you think it is. 50% off a 6-pack of Lager? 2 months before the price was raised from its original 4.99 to 8.38 (40% increase if your wondering). Nothing is free except the air we breathe, and as soon as the government can work out how to sell it to people, they will. So yes the mod itself is free, and no, the hackers are not likely to be dealt with any more than they are now. Why spend more time on something that is getting replaced in a few short months? It is completely playable right now as is, and I would rather they spent more time getting it right in the standalone, than changing one or two things in a mod that hackers will undoubtedly learn how to get around anyway. But that is me, and what I say isn't going to stop people posting about hacks, or commenting on the price of this free mod. Peace out people.

1 makarov shot brings down a helicopter...

Combat logging: Am I guilty or innocent?
discombobulated replied to Travis31's topic in New Player Discussion
It isn't your problem? So you don't think it is any of your business if someone is following you to try and do something about it? Considering you are a target I would say it most certainly is your problem. I'm not saying it is a perfect scenario, but if you log out for fear of getting shot, then that just takes everything away from this game. I'm not saying that he should stay logged in just because he hears gunshots, but if he wasn't going to log out, and the shooting changed his mind, well there isn't a difference between that and people that DC during a fight. It has only been done to avoid dying. So until a system comes that penalises you for doing something cheap, keep disconnecting to save yourself for a little while longer? Yeah, that's the way to play, "It's not cheating if there isn't a mechanic to stop you" Great advice there, something everyone can learn from. -
The best I can suggest to you then is to just try your luck with a random server. Last night I travelled halfway along the left side of the map, and halfway along the top. You will never guess what I found (nothing, absolutely nothing) but that's just the one server I was on, there are thousands of servers, so many, many opportunities to find a camp. Be wary though, because a lot of the bigger camps will most likely be guarded or watched.
